Comparison of the Determinants Affecting Forest Investment by the Type of Private Forest Land Owners (산주(山主) 유형별(類型別) 산림투자(山林投資) 요인(要因) 비교분석(比較分析))

  • The case study of the Cooperatives' members and Sincere Forest Managers/Forest Successors was carried out to find the determinants affecting the forest investment of private forest owners and analyze their effects on it. For this the landowners' forest investment probability function was estimated using the logistical regression model. The results showed that the forest investment of the Cooperatives' members was the function of forest area, stand age, forest income, and technical assistance. Three of the variables (forest income, forest area, and technical assistance) exhibited a positive effect on the forest investment as expected, while stand age showed a negative effect unlike the expectation of the study. In case of Sincere Forest Managers and Forest Successors forest area, distance(1)(distance from forest to road accessible by vehicle), knowledge of financing program, and forest income were significant indicators for the forest investment. All these variables showed the expected signs; forest area, knowledge of financing, and forest income had a positive effect on the forest investment, and distance(1) showed a negative effect.

  • It is well known that the ship manoeuvring motion is greatly affected by hydrodynamic forces and moments acting between two vessels passing too close to each other in confined waters, such as in a harbour or narrow channel. This interaction between two vessels could be assumed to be the functions of the longitudinal distance, transverse distance and their speeds. The aim of this study is to calculate the interaction between two vessels passing close to each other on parallel courses by simulation, and to estimate the effect of rudder action and time at collision through simulation under the condition of various longitudinal distances and different speed-ratios of the two vessels.

  • Recently, researches about the communication between LED array and the camera (alias 'Visual-MIMO'), have been actively conducted, and the application to the vehicle and a smart phone is expected to be maximized. Since the bit error may occur if the ISI is severe in a LED array, it is necessary to switch from the multiplexing to the diversity mode. In this paper, according to the use or not of a reference array pattern, a method for determining the transition time to the diversity mode is suggested and verified. When using the reference pattern, it determines the transition time to the diversity mode from the multiplexing using the brightness information of the received image. If the reference array pattern is not used, the size of LED array compared to the entire image according to the distance is used and the size of the LED array at the distance of a severe ISI may be used for the determination of transition time to the diversity. Finally, the proposed method is verified through the simulation and hardware experiments as well as by analyzing the performance in accordance with the ISI level and the distance.

Derivations of Positive Pressure Condition for Development of Foldable Safe Pathway in Railway Tunnel Fires (철도터널화재용 접이식 대피통로 개발을 위한 양압 조건 도출)

  • The Korea Foldable safe pathway system is an evacuation support system to get temporary evacuation route in railway tunnel and large space fires. A prevention smoke screen is unfolded in fires and it is needed to prevent heat and smoke from fire source. Therefore, ventilation system for positive pressure condition is equipped with foldable safe pathway system. Numerical analyses of temperature and pressure distribution with distance from fire source were performed considering fire scenario of new train vehicle. The smoke temperatures did not exceed $200^{\circ}C$ that distance from the fire source was more than 20 m and smoke pressure was reduced with distance from fire source. Maximum smoke pressure was 14 Pa and average pressure was 6 Pa in position of prevention smoke screen. As results, to install foldable safe pathway system, ventilation system is need to maintain 6 Pa positive pressure condition.

  • To improve the performance of self-driving cars, the introduction of V2X, a communication technology that connects vehicles, infrastructure, and vehicles, is essential. Even if traffic information of the other vehicle is known, the structure of the intersection and a distance calculation algorithm are required for accurate calculations at roundabouts. This paper proposes a design algorithm for a rotating intersection and implemented in Matlab that complies with the national design rules and enables accurate calculations. Assuming the roundabout and the entrance/exit path to be a circle, a method for measuring the distance between vehicles at an arbitrary point was proposed using the horizontal shift of the entrance circle to the main circle. The algorithm could be used in fully autonomous vehicles by designing a roundabout suitable for the terrain by arbitrarily varying the angle between branches and the radius of curvature of the entrance and exit roads, and transmitting a warning signal when a collision between two driving vehicles is expected.

  • Snow, rain, fog, and particulate matter interfere with the vehicle driver's vision, which causes a non-secure safety distance and an increase in speed deviation, causing repetitive large-scale traffic accidents. This study developed a road environment sensor capable of measuring 11 types of fog, snow, rain, temperature, humidity, direction of wind, speed of wind, Insolation, atmospheric pressure, fine particles, rainfall, etc. and compared the visibility measured by the infrared signal value of the development sensor. The relationship between the existing fog visibility sensor and the development sensor measurement was derived from data measured at a visibility of 500m or less that directly affects road safety.

  • The behavior of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) and the effect of the steel ratio on the behavior under moving wheel loads were investigated in this study. The CRCP sections having different steel ratios of 0.6, 0.7, and 0.8% were considered to evaluate the load transfer efficiency (LTE) at transverse cracks and to investigate the strains in CRCP when the system is subjected to moving vehicle loads. The LTEs were obtained by conducting the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) tests and the tests were performed at three different times of a day to find the curling effect due to the daily temperature changes in CRCP. The strains in the concrete slab and the bond braker layer of the CRCP system under moving vehicle loads were obtained using the embedded strain gages. The results of this study show that the LTEs at transverse cracks are very high and not affected by the time of testing and the steel ratio. The strains in CRCP under vehicle loads become smaller as the vehicle speed increases or as the wandering distance increases; however, the strains are not clearly affected by the steel ratio.

High-Altitude Environment Simulation of Space Launch Vehicle in a Ground-Test Facility (지상시험장비를 통한 우주발사체 고공환경모사 기법 연구)

  • The experimental research on a high-altitude environment simulation of space launch vehicle is important for securing independent technologies with launching space vehicles and completing missions. This study selected an altitude of 65 km for the experiment environment where it exceeded Mach number of 6 after the launch of Korean Space Launch Vehicle(KSLV-II). Shock tunnel was used to replicate the flight condition. After flow establishment, in order to confirm aerodynamic characteristics and normal and oblique shockwaves, the flow verification was carried out by measuring stagnation pressure and heat flux of a forebody model, and shockwave stand-off distance of a hemispherical model. In addition, a shock-free technique to recover free-stream condition has been developed and verified. From the results of the three verification tests, it was confirmed that the flow was replicated with the error of about ${\pm}3%$. The error between the slope angle of inclined shockwave of the scaled down transition section model using the shock-free shape and the slope angle of the horizontal plate model, and between the theoretical and the experimental value of the static pressure of the model were confirmed to be 2% and 1%, respectively. As a result, the efficiency of the shockwave cancellation technique has been verified.

A Methodology to Establish Operational Strategies for Truck Platoonings on Freeway On-ramp Areas (고속도로 유입연결로 구간 화물차 군집운영전략 수립 방안 연구)

  • Vehicle platooning through wireless communication and automated driving technology has become realized. Platooning is a technique in which several vehicles travel at regular intervals while maintaining a minimum safety distance. Truck platooning is of keen interest because it contributes to preventing truck crashes and reducing vehicle emissions, in addition to the increase in truck flow capacity. However, it should be noted that interactions between vehicle platoons and adjacent manually-driven vehicles (MV) significantly give an impact on the performance of traffic flow. In particular, when vehicles entering from on-ramp attempt to merge into the mainstream of freeway, proper interactions by adjusting platoon size and inter-platoon spacing are required to maximize traffic performance. This study developed a methodology for establishing operational strategies for truck platoonings on freeway on-ramp areas. Average speed and conflict rate were used as measure of effectiveness (MOE) to evaluate operational efficiency and safety. Microscopic traffic simulation experiments using VISSIM were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of various platooning scenarios. A decision making process for selecting better platoon operations to satisfy operations and safety requirements was proposed. It was revealed that a platoon operating scenario with 50m inter-platoon spacing and the platoon consisting of 6 vehicles outperformed other scenarios. The proposed methodology would effectively support the realization of novel traffic management concepts in the era of automated driving environments.
