The paper presents the rotordynamic performance measurements and model predictions of a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) air compressor supported on gas foil bearings (GFBs). The rotor has an impeller on one end and a thrust runner on the other end. The front (impeller side) and rear (thrust side) gas foil journal bearings (GFJBs) are located between the impeller and thrust runner to support the radial loads, and a pair of gas foil thrust bearings are located on both sides of the thrust runner to support the axial loads. The test GFJBs have a partial arc shim foil installed between the top foil and bump strip layers to enhance hydrodynamic pressure generation. During the rotordynamic performance tests, two sets of orthogonally installed eddy-current displacement sensors measure the rotor radial motions at the rotor impeller and thrust ends. A series of speed-up and coast-down tests to 100k rpm demonstrates the dominant synchronous (1X) rotor responses to imbalance masses without noticeable subsynchronous motions, which indicates a rotordynamically stable rotor-GFB system. Finite element analysis of the rotor determines the rotor free-free (bending) natural modes and frequencies well beyond the maximum rotating frequency. The predicted damped natural frequencies and damping ratios of the rotor-GFB system reveal rotordynamic stability over the speeds of interest. The imbalance response predictions show that the predicted critical speeds and rotor amplitudes strongly agree with the test measurements, thus validating the developed rotordynamic model.
The biological activity of tissue specific stem cell is under the control of their specific microenvironment and the exogenous chemicals derived from digestive tract can be one of the constructing factors of that. It is suggested that the extract of brown algae Ishige okamurae has antioxidant-, apoptosis induction-, and antiinflammatory-effects. On the other hand, a few studies have shown that antioxidant assist inhibition of accumulation of fat. So we studied the effect of the extract of I. okamura on the cellular activity and differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocyte to adipose cell. The viability of cell was analyzed using 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazo-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Adipogenesis of 3T3-L1 cell was analyzed after induction in the induction medium containing the I. okamurae extract. The cellular activity was high compared with the vehicle and 0.05 mM caffeine in all groups of I. okamurae extract treated cells. The extract of I. okamura inhibited accumulation of lipids in 10 and $50{\mu}g/ml$. The expression of the marker genes for adipocyte differentiation coincided with cytochemical results. These results suggest that the extract of I. okamurae increases the cellular viability of adipose precursor cells. On the other hand, it suppresses the differentiation of preadipocyte to adipocyte and accumulation of lipids in concentration-dependent manners. It may be possible that the major component of the extract can be applied in the control of adipose tissuegenesis.

Turbopump is a key component in liquid rocket engines, and reducing weight while maintaining structural safety is one of the major concerns of turbopump designers. To reduce the weight aluminium alloy castings instead of steel casings are introduced. The casting process is especially useful for enhancement of productivity and for reduction of product costs. But, since castings are used in space vehicle engines, reliability cannot be compromised. Therefore, proper design, production process and thorough investigation should be performed to ensure structural integrity. In this study inlet casings for a fuel pump were casted with A356.0-T6 alloy and using one of them a burst test was conducted to ensure structural integrity. Structural analysis is performed for simulation, and with multiple strain gages strains are measured and compared with predictions.

In this paper, we examine Asymmetric Multi-Processing Environment to provide LDW service. Asymmetric Multi-Processing Environment consists of high-speed MCU to support rapid image processing and low-speed MCU for controlling with other ECU at the control domain. Also we designed rapid image process application and LDW application Software Component(SW-C) according to the development process rule of AUTOSAR. To communicate between two MCUs, timer based polling based IPC was designed. Also to communicate with other ECUs(Electronic Control Units), we designed CAN messages to provide alarm information and receiving CAN message to catch the Turn signal. We confirm the possibility of the various ADAS development using an Asymmetric Multi-Processing Environment and AUTOSAR platform. We also expect providing ISO 26262 functional safety.

The aim of this study is to design a simulation model for an electric All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) tractor to evaluate the performance of the selected component and agricultural work ability. The electric AWD tractor consists of four motors independently for each drive wheel, and each motor is combined with an engine generator, a battery pack, and reducers. The torque data of a 78 kW-class tractor was measured during plow tillage and driving operation to develop a workload cycle. A simulation model was developed by using commercial software, Simulation X, and it used the workload as the simulation condition. As a result of simulation analysis, the drive system, including an electric motor and reducers, was able to cope with high load during plow tillage. The SOC (State of Charge) level was influenced by the output power of the motor, and it was maintained in the range of 50~80%. The fuel consumed by the engine was about 18.23 L during working on a total of 8 fields. The electric AWD tractor was able to perform agricultural work for about 7 hours. In the future study, the electric AWD tractor will be developed reflecting the simulation condition. Research on the comparison between the simulation model and the electric AWD tractor should be performed.

In order to investigate transient behaviour of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle) propulsion system during flight mode transition considering flow control valve operation, the propulsion system was modelled using SIMULINK commercial program. For transient simulation of the main engine system, the ICV(Inter-Component Volume) method was applied. The valve system is to control the gas flow of the rotary duct system and the main duct system, and the analysis was performed with an assumption that the total gas mass flow of the main engine is the same as summation of the rotary duct flow and the main duct flow, and with consideration of valve loss, flow rate and effective area in valve angle variation. The performance analysis was carried out during flight mode transitions from the rotary flight mode to the fixed wing flight mode and vice versa mode at altitude of 1Km, flight Mach number 0.1 and maximum engine rpm.

The traffic lights detection and recognition system is an essential module of the driver warning and assistance system. A method which is a color vision-based real time detection and recognition of traffic lights is presented in this paper This method has four main modules : traffic signals lights detection module, traffic lights boundary candidate determination module, boundary detection module and recognition module. In traffic signals lights detection module and boundary detection module, the color thresholding and the subtraction value of saturation and intensity in HSI color space and detection probability mask for lights detection are used to segment the image. In traffic lights boundary candidate determination module, the detection mask of traffic lights boundary is proposed. For the recognition module, the AND operator is applied to the results of two detection modules. The input data for this method is the color image sequence taken from a moving vehicle by a color video camera. The recorded image data was transformed by zooming function of the camera. And traffic lights detection and recognition experimental results was presented in this zoomed image sequence.

An infrared thermography technique can be used to inspect a large area simultaneously and to detect defects such as cracks or delaminations in real time. Infrared thermography is a technique in which visual images are formed from the infrared range from subjects according to their thermal radiation. The molecules of all objects are disturbed by heat, and the molecular motion becomes more active when the temperature rises and less active when the temperature falls. In this study, the applicability and feasibility of ultrasound thermography for detecting defects in an engine block, which is a key component in the automobile industry, were verified. A nondestructive reliability test was conducted to study the defects, after which the results were analyzed.

The paper proposes a multi-body dynamic simulation to numerically evaluate the generated axial force(G.A.F) and plunging resistant force(P.R.F) practically related to the shudder and idling vibration of an automobile. A numerical analysis of two plunging types of CV joints, tripod joint(TJ) and very low axial tripod joint(VTJ), is conducted using the commercial program DAFUL. User-defined subroutines of a friction model illustrating the contacted parts of the outboard and inboard joint are subsequently developed to overcome the numerical instability and improve the solution performance. The Coulomb friction effect is applied to describe the contact models of the lubricated parts in the rolling and sliding mechanisms. The numerical results, in accordance with the joint articulation angle variation, are validated with experimentation. The offset between spider and tulip housing is demonstrated to be the critical role in producing the 3rd order component of the axial force that potentially causes the noise and vibration in vehicle. The VTJ shows an excellent behavior for the shudder when compared with TJ. In addition, a flexible nonlinear contact analysis coupled with rigid multi-body dynamics is also performed to show the dynamic strength characteristics of the rollers, housing, and spider.

This experimental study presents the results of the cooling performance test of a $CO_2$ heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles. The experimental facility provides the cool ing and heating environment for cabin and heat releasing component. The test loop is designed to target the cooling capacity of 5kW and its coefficient of performance (COP) of 2.2. The cooling performance of the heat pump system is strongly dependent on the refrigerant charge and the degree of superheat. We carried out basic experiments to obtain optimum refrigerant charge and the degree of superheat level at the internal heat exchanger outlet. The heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles is different from that of engine-driven vehicles, where the former has an electricity-driven compressor and the latter has the belt-driven (engine-driven) compressor. In the fuel cell vehicle, the compressor speed is an independent operating parameter and it is controlled to meet the cooling/heating loads. Experiments were carried out at cooling mode with respect to the compressor speed and the incoming outdoor air speed. The results obtained in this study can provide the fundamental cool ing performance data using the $CO_2$ heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles.
