A Design of 3D Graphics Geometry Processor for Mobile Applications (휴대 단말기용 3D Graphics Geometry Processor 설계)

  • This paper presents 3D graphics geometry processor for mobile applications. Geometry stage needs to cope with the large amount of computation. Geometry stage consists of transformation process and lighting process. To deal with computation in geometry stage, the vector processor that is based on pipeline chaining is proposed. The performance of proposed 3D graphics geometry processor is up to 4.3M vertex/sec at 100 MHz. Also, the designed processor is compliant with OpenGL ES that is widely used for standard API of embedded system. The proposed structure can be efficiently used in 3D graphics accelerator for mobile applications.

  • The Support Vector Data Description (SVDD) has achieved great success in anomaly detection, directly finding the optimal ball with a minimal radius and center, which contains most of the target data. The SVDD has some limited classification capability, because the hyper-sphere, even in feature space, can express only a limited region of the target class. This paper presents an anomaly detection algorithm for mitigating the limitations of the conventional SVDD by finding the minimum volume enclosing ellipsoid in the feature space. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, we tested it with intrusion detection applications. Experimental results show the prominence of the proposed approach for anomaly detection compared with the standard SVDD.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented an Internet Geographic Information System, called IGIS, that supports the client/server architecture connected via the Internet. IGIS is consists of the Map Server and the Map Viewer which can be located at a server site and client sites, respectively. In addition, we used the Common Gateway Interface(CGI) to service the geographic information on the Internet and used a DXF(Data eXchange Format) file as a geographic data in IGIS.

  • We propose an approach to extract and to classify facial features into some classes from one's photo as prepared classification standards to generate one's avatar. Facial Feature Extraction and Classification was executed at eyes, nose, lips, jaw separately and I presented each facial features and classification standards. Extracted Facial Features are used for calculation to features of professional designer's facial component images. Then, most similar facial component images are mapped onto avatar's vector face.

  • In this paper, A Fast Multi-level Successive Elimination Algorithm (FMSEA) is presented for block matching motion estimation in video coding. Motion estimation accuracy of FMSEA is equal to that of Multilevel Successive Elimination Algorithm(MSEA). FMSEA can reduce the computations for motion estimation of MSEA by using partial distortion elimination technique. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was verified by experimental results.

  • The high-dimensionality and insufficiency of gene expression profiles and proteomic profiles makes feature selection become a critical step in efficiently building accurate models for cancer problems based on such data sets. In this paper, we use a method, called Discrete Function Learning algorithm, to find discriminatory feature vectors based on information theory. The target feature vectors contain all or most information (in terms of entropy) of the class attribute. Two data sets are selected to validate our approach, one leukemia subtype gene expression data set and one ovarian cancer proteomic data set. The experimental results show that the our method generalizes well when applied to these insufficient and high-dimensional data sets. Furthermore, the obtained classifiers are highly understandable and accurate.

  • In this paper, a discrete-time variable structure control method using recursively defined switching function and a decoupled variable structure disturbance compensator is used to achieve high performance circular motion control of a CNC machining center. The discrete-time variable structure control with the decoupled disturbance compensator method developed in this paper uses a recursive switching function defined as the sum of the current tracking error vector and the previous value of the switching function multiplied by a positive constant less than one. This recursive switching function provides much improved performance compared to the method that uses a switching function defined only as a linear combination of the current tracking error. Enhancements in tracking performance are demonstrated in the circular motion control using a CNC milling machine.

A Study on the Efficient m-step Parallel Generalization

  • It would be desirable to have methods for specific problems, which have low communication costs compared to the computation costs, and in specific applications, algorithms need to be developed and mapped onto parallel computer architectures. Main memory access for shared memory system or global communication in message passing system deteriorate the computation speed. In this paper, it is found that the m-step generalization of the block Lanczos method enhances parallel properties by forming m simultaneous search direction vector blocks. QR factorization, which lowers the speed on parallel computers, is not necessary in the m-step block Lanczos method. The m-step method has the minimized synchronization points, which resulted in the minimized global communications compared to the standard methods.

System Level Simulation of CDMA Network with Adaptive Array

  • In this study, the system level network simulation is considered with adaptive array antenna in CDMA mobile communication system. A network simulation framework is implemented based on IS-95A/B system to consider dynamic handoff, system level network behavior, and deploying strategy into the overall CDMA mobile communication network under adaptive array algorithm. Its simulation model, such as vector channel model, adaptive beam forming antenna model, handoff model, and power control model, are described in detail with simulation block. In order to maximize SINR of received signal at antenna, maximin algorithm is particularly considered, and it is computed at each simulation snap shot with SINR based power control and handoff algorithm. Graphic user interface in this system level network simulator is also implemented to define the simulation environments and to represent simulation results on real mapping system. This paper also shows some features of simulation framework and simulation results.

  • In this paper, a novel overmodulation strategy for space-vector PWM(SVPWM) inverters to utilize dc link voltage fully is presented. The proposed strategy uses the concept of SVPWM based on the zero sequence signal(offset voltage) injection principle. So, by modifying the pole voltage simply, the linear control of inverter output voltage over the whole overmodulation range can be achieved easily. The validity of the proposed strategy is confirmed by the experimental results.
