To investigate the experimental effects of Chunwangboshimdan which have been widely used for aterial or auricular flutter, neurosis, insomnia and disease caused by cardiac malfunction, we have done the effects on the central nervous and cardiovascular system. The result as follow; It inhibited the convulsion induced by caffeine, the writhing syndrome induced by acetic acid and the spontaneous movement. Furthermore it prolonged the sleeping time induced by thiopental-Na in mice. It also showed the negative inotropic action on the isolated heart of frog, the vasodilative action as to peripheral bloods of rabbit ear and the hypotensive action in the anesthetized rabbit.

In order to investigate the effect of Kamiondam-tang on the cardiovascular system and sedative action, pharmacological studies have been carried out with water extract. The results of this investigation were summarized as follows; The sedative action was significantly recognized in mice. Vasodilative action in rabbit peripheral blood vessel and hypotension in anesthetized rabbit were remarkably recognized. Inhibitory effect of cardiac systolic action was recognized by Straub method in frogs.

This study was conducted about the effect of Shihogesikungang-tang on the central nervous system and cardiovascular system for the investigation of its clinical effect based on the Oriental medicinal references. The results of this study were summerized as follows; Analgesic activity as evaluated by the writhing syndrome in mice was significantly noted. A decrease effect of the spontaneous movement as estimated by wheel cage method, muscle relaxant effect as evaluated by the rotor rod method and the prolonged effect of sleeping time induced by thiopental-Na were significantly shown in mice. A antipyretic activity in febrile rats induced by the endotoxin was recognized. Anti-inflammatory effect in carrageen-induced paw edema in rats was significantly noted. Negative inotropic action on the isolated heart of frogs was noted. A vasodilative action in rabbits peripheral blood vessels and hypotension in anesthetized rabbits were remarkably recognized.

The pharmacological activities on water extracts of Cortex, Ramulus and Folium from the Eucommia ulmoides Oliver were studied, and the following results were observed. The vasodilative action on the rabbit ear blood vessel was recognized in the Cortex, Ramulus and Folium. The spontaneous motility and the contraction induced by Ach., $BaCl_2$ and histamine in the isolated ileum of mice were suppressed and inhibited in the Ramulus only. On the contrary, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities were noted in the Cortex and Folium. Furthermore, the hypotensive effect was recognized in the Folium. The diuretic, bile secretory and anti-fatigue effects were shown in the Cortex and Folium.

'Kangsim-San' is an added and subtracted prescription of 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' recorded in 'Dongeuy-Soose-Boweon' from which it has become one of the favorate prescriptions at the Oriental Medical Hospital, Kyung-Hee University. It is described in the book that the 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' can be effective to symptoms relating to fatigue, nocturnal emission, abdominal pain, tongue deviation and palsy, etc. However the 'Kangsim-San' has been used for neurotic syndrome, pulpitation, insomnia, constipation, dry-mouth, auorexia and arrythmias and so on, added to the above-mentioned symptoms for the 'Cheongsim-Yeonza-Tang' at the hospital. Nevertheless, the pharmacological research of fundamental basis is not completed so far, and we have attempted experiment on various animals to study the pharmacological effects of the medicine. The result was proved as follows; The prescription had a considerable effects on the sedation of central nervous system, antipyretic and analgesic action, and vasodilative action.
