Teaching with laboratory activities in school science, which are distinctive characteristic, is placed from other disciplines fur teaming almost 200 hundred years ago. A number of science educators have suggested that there are rich benefits in teaming from using laboratory activities. At these time, however, some educators have begun to seriously question the effectiveness and the role of laboratory activities. There are some causes related to obscure and vague aims of laboratory activities. The purposes of this paper is to review aims of laboratory activities presented in the literatures through historical overview, and to obtain implication for school science. There are various aims of laboratory activities by a number of researchers. Overall synthesizing, there are ffur domains of aims of science teaching through laboratory activities, (a) science knowledge has two sub-domains; scientific content knowledge and procedural knowledge, (b) nature of science, (c) science attitude has two sub-domain; scientific attitude and attitude toward science, and (d) ability of scientific inquiry has two sub-domain; manipulative skills and scientific thinking. But, it is necessary to continue the following study in order to obtain the aims of laboratory activities agreed by expert community, and setting up of lists of aims of laboratory activities for students to achieve hierarchies of school science curriculums.

Elementary mathematics education in the 7th mathematics curricula has been emphasized to foster ‘mathematical power’. For establishing this purpose, we need to provide the opportunities inducing to students' thoughts and to study leaching-learning methods to make structuring for their thinking process. Using to writing activities in students' mathematics learning, we think that we can find out their thinking process and this writing mathematics learning method is effective to promote their communication. Through analysing to six grade mathematics textbooks, we devised to mathematical writing types and teaching/learning models could being utilized in mathematics classes. And we investigated the influence of mathematical writing on the learning ability of students. We have experimented and investigated to after dividing experimental objects into two groups, experimental group and comparative group. We founded out, through these researches for mathematical writing teaming, that the experimental group of the former had obtained greatly better results than the latter in mathematical learning abilities and studying achievements. Based on these result, it is required to have an accumulation of research on teaching-teaming methods by using various types of mathematical writing study.

This paper tries to find out about organizational and managemental aspect of Korean curriculum through a comparison between Korea's 7th elementary mathematics curriculum and that of Japan's elementary mathematics curriculum, which will start in m2 through researching various literatures. The main characteristic of this elementary mathematics curriculum is that Korea has organized a teaming program that tended to individual differences, and focused on student-centered activities and communication based on constructivism. On the other hand, Japan reduced learning contents a lot by running 5-schooldays a week so that 80% of teaching time can be spent to help the students master mathematical contents of the textbook. This leaves 20% of teaching time to be used for improving mathematical thinking power as a foundation of creativity through mathematical activities. Korea's teaching time spent for elementary mathematics is about 80% of Japan's, which is also less than that of other country's. Less time in teaming mathematics will lead to decrease in teaming ability. Therefore, there is a need for increased teaching time in mathematics. Korea's revision of curriculum is about 5 years which is often compared to that of Japan's 10 years. Frequent revising is good in that it reflects the social demand, but it can cause much confusion and problems in accepting and applying its program in a real classroom setting, which is why it needs to be looked at again. The direction, objective and assesment of revision fits the demands of international trends and essentials of mathematics. Japan puts its emphasis on learning through repetition and Korea puts its emphasis on problem solving and communication. Regarding assesment, both Korea and Japan is looking for ways to find various assessing ways which will focus on mathematical process rather than the mathematical results, and also will put emphasis on criterion-directed assesment to measure goal achievements. However Japan emphasize on using report cards of assesment to help mathematics learning.
Mathematically gifted children have creative curiosity about novel tasks deriving from their natural mathematical talents, aptitudes, intellectual abilities and creativities. More effect in nurturing the creative thinking found in brilliant children, letting them approach problem solving in various ways and make strategic attempts is needed. Given this perspective, it is desirable to select open-ended and atypical problems as a task for educational program for gifted children. In this paper, various types of open-ended problems were framed and based on these, teaming activities were adapted into gifted children's class. Then in the problem solving process, the characteristic of bright children's mathematical thinking ability and examples of problem solving strategies were analyzed so that suggestions about classes for bright children utilizing open-ended tasks at elementary schools could be achieved. For this, an open-ended task made of 24 inquiries was structured, the teaching procedure was made of three steps properly transforming Renzulli's Enrichment Triad Model, and 24 periods of classes were progressed according to the teaching plan. One period of class for each subcategories of mathematical thinking ability; ability of intuitional insight, systematizing information, space formation/visualization, mathematical abstraction, mathematical reasoning, and reflective thinking were chosen and analyzed regarding teaching, teaming process and products. Problem solving examples that could be anticipated through teaching and teaming process and products analysis, and creative problem solving examples were suggested, and suggestions about teaching bright children using open-ended tasks were deduced based on the analysis of the characteristic of tasks, role of the teacher, impartiality and probability of approaching through reflecting the classes. Through the case study of a mathematics class for bright children making use of open-ended tasks proved to satisfy the curiosity of the students, and was proved to be effective for providing and forming a habit of various mathematical thinking experiences by establishing atypical mathematical problem solving strategies. This study is meaningful in that it provided mathematically gifted children's problem solving procedures about open-ended problems and it made an attempt at concrete and practical case study about classes fur gifted children while most of studies on education for gifted children in this country focus on the studies on basic theories or quantitative studies.
This study aims to analyze the science content in secondary school environmental education(EE) textbooks and the environment-related content in secondary school science text- books. Firstly, a total of 73 EE and science textbooks for secondary students were reviewed, which three kinds of textbooks, secondary school EE textbooks and the 10th grade "Science" textbooks, were finally selected for analysis. Three researchers separately analyzed the textbooks using NAAEE framework(1996) for the development of EE materials. In condition that there was a disagreement in their opinion, they had discussed until they came to an agreement. The results showed that secondary school EE textbooks contained more and deeper science concepts than the 10th grade "Science" textbooks, which were evaluated better in all perspectives of the analysis framework. The 10th grade "Science" textbooks had more various teaching and learning activities than EE textbooks. It it expected that the new EE textbook developers should consider the ultimate goal of EE which focused the affective perspectives rather than the cognitive perspectives.
This study proposed task-based teaming strategies as a means of fulfilling the demands and goals of the 7th national science curriculum. Task-based learning is based on the use of a series of activities whereby a teacher presents students with tasks related to daily lift and the students solve the tasks by themselves using various methods and thought processes and then present and discuss their results with each other. The tasks are selected from the 6-grade science textbook, are reconstructed and are then given to the classes. The tasks include whole class activities as well as individual activities related to the interests, abilities, and concerns of the students. The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of task-based learning classes on the science process skills and the scientific attitudes of elementary school students, when applied to 6th grade students. For this, the task-based learning activities were applied to an experimental group and expository teaching was applied to the comparison group. Both groups were given a pre-post test on science process skills and scientific attitudes. The results indicate that task-based loaming is very effective in the development of science process skills and scientific attitudes.

According to increase number of electronic publications, teacher ind student demand them in their teaching md teaming activities. So school libraries must provide various materials(ex : printed, audio-visual and electronic materials). The purpose of this study is to identify the use of electronic publications in school libraries md to suggest the methods of utilization of them.
In this study, a brain-basrd model for science teaching and learning was developed based on the natural processes which human acquire knowledge about a natural object or on event, the major domains of science educational objectives of the national curriculum, and the human brain's organizational patterns and functions. In the model, each educational objective domain is related to the brain regions as follows: The affective domain is related to the limbic system, especially amygdala of human brain which is involved in emotions, the psychomotor domain is related to the occipital lobes of human brain which perform visual processing, temporal lobes which perform functions of language generating and understandng, and parietal lobes which receive and process sensory information and execute motor activities of body, and the cognitive domain is related to the frontal and prefrontal lobes which are involved in think-ing, planning, judging, and problem solving. The model is a kind of procedural model which proceed fiom affective domain to psychomotor domain, and to cognitive domain of science educational objective system, and emphasize the order of each step and authentic assessment at each step. The model has both properties of circularity and network of activities. At classrooms, the model can be used as various forms according to subjects and student characteristics. STS themes can be appropriately covered by the model.
The purpose of this study is to understand the reduction of energy consumption and demand level for education relating to the reduction of energy consumption by middle school students. First, the perception of the reduction of energy consumption had a significant relationship with sex and grade. Second, the demand level for education relating to the reduction of energy consumption showed a significant relationship with only sex. Third, regression analysis on the influence of perception of the reduction of energy consumption showed a correlation between theperception of a reduction of energy consumption and the demand level for education relating to a reduction of energy consumption. The research suggests that students want an education that reduces energy consumption at school implemented during experience-centered and activity-centered discretionary activities, rather than duringtheory-centered curricular activities. It also suggests that overcoming limitations of space, that is, implementation of such education at various places besides school, and the application of teaching and teaming methods which use the internet and image media are more effective for education for the reduction of energy consumption.
