Selection and Utilization of Satellite Imagery for Environmental Assessment in Arid Regions - in the Kuche Area, Tarim Basin, China

  • The arid regions of western China are currently the focus of extensive exploration and development. This paper reports on recent experience gained by Chinese and Canadian project team members in the use of a variety of Earth observation satellite imagery for oil exploration and environmental assessment exercises in the Kuche area of Xinjiang. Through careful archival data selection and more recent data acquisition schemes, we have established several time series of MODIS, Landsat and Radarsat imagery in order to obtain a better understanding for daily, seasonal as well as decadal changes of the natural environment as well as man-made environmental features.

  • SNOMED CT는 임상 과정에서의 진료 기록을 전산화하고 이를 효율적으로 관리 및 활용하기 위한 종합적 표준 임상 의학용어 체계이다. 그러나 이는 표현 가능한 용어의 종류가 지나치게 많음에 따라 환자 상태를 표현하는 가장 적합한 용어를 짧은 진료 시간 내에 선택하여 기록하기가 어렵고, 또한 한가지 임상적 의미가 다양한 용어 및 그 조합으로 표현될 수 있음에 따라 의무기록의 작성시 그 의미가 왜곡되거나 잘못 해석될 여지가 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제점들을 분석하고 이를 해결하기 위한 중복 용어 선택 기법을 제시한다.

천궁 내병 다수성 신품종 ‘신토’ (Disease Resistance and High Yielding Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort. Variety ‘Sinto’)

  • 작물시험장에서 1993년 9개 지역으로 부터 수집하여 분리육성한 무주수집종이 2001년에 신토로 명명되어 보급하게 되었는데 그 주요특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 엽색은 녹색이고 줄기색은 녹색이다. 꽃색은 흰색, 뿌리색은 암갈색으로 타 지역 재래종과 비슷하다. 2. 지상부생육은 평창재래에 비하여 초장이 짧고 경수, 분지수가 많아 지상부 생육이 양호한 편이었다. 뿌리생육은 평창재래에 비하여 근경, 지근수가 많아 건근중이 높다. 3. 흰가루병에는 평창재래보다 강한 특성이 있다. 4. 생산력검정시험에서 평창재래에 비하여 신토가 10% 증수되었으며 지역적응시험 3년간 3개 지역에서의 평균 건근수량이 2,260 kg/ha로 대비품종인 평창재래에 비하여 20 % 증수되었다.

Effect of Variety on Proportion of Botanical Fractions and Nutritive Value of Different Napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum) and Relationship between Botanical Fractions and Nutritive Value

  • Five varieties of napiergrasses (Pennisetum purpureum) were fractionated botanically into leaf blade, leaf sheath, stem and head. Chemical composition of each of whole napiergrass and their botanical fractions were determined. Correlation, linear and multiple regressions between botanical fractions and nutritive value of varieties of napiergrass were also estimated. All botanical fractions differed due to the effect of variety. Napier Pusha contained the highest proportion of leaf blade and internode, but the lowest proportion of leaf sheath. Napier Hybrid contained the lowest proportion of leaf blade, but highest proportion of node. Consequently, napier Pusha contained the highest (p<0.01) crude protein (CP, 9.0%), but Napier Hybrid had the lowest CP (7.0%). Chemical composition of whole plant differed significantly (p<0.01; except NFE, p>0.05) due to the variety. Not only the whole plant, chemical composition of most botanical fractions of whole plant differed (p<0.05 to 0.01) due to the variety. The intrarelationships between leaf blade and leaf sheath was negative (r=-0.43). Leaf sheath was also negatively correlated to CP, but positively correlated to ash of whole Napier or their botanical fractions. Leaf blade, on the other hand, increases CP but decreases ash content of whole plant or their fractions. These results, therefore, suggest that napiergrass varieties differ widely in terms of botanical fractions and nutritive value, which may have important implications on intake and productivity of animals. Furthermore, napiergrass varieties should be selected for leaf blade only for a better response.

녹색찰현미로 이용 가능한 "녹원찰벼"의 돌연변이 육종 (A New Green-Kerneled Glutinous Rice Mutant Variety, "Nogwonchalbyeo" Developed by Gamma Ray Irradiation)

  • 출수가 늦어 남해안 일부 지역에서만 재배되던 재래종 녹미(일명; 생동찰벼)를 개량하여 전국적으로 안전하게 재배할 수 있도록 신품종 "녹원찰벼"를 육성하였다. 생동찰벼의 종자에 감마선 200 Gy를 조사하여 $M_2$세대에서 출수가 빠르고 키가 작은 우량 계통을 선발하였다. 계통선발과 지역적응성 시험을 거쳐 유망계통 원농 17호(녹원찰벼)를 최종적으로 선발하여 품종등록하였다. 녹원찰벼는 생동찰벼와 비교하여 중부지방에서 이삭 피는 시기가 생동찰벼보다 15일정도 빠른 8월 17-20일경이었고 간장은 15 cm 정도 작은 91 cm이었다. 녹원찰벼의 현미 수량은 생동찰벼보다 10% 정도 증가하였다. 녹원찰벼의 백미 및 현미중의 아미노산 함량은 다른 대조 품종보다 10-60% 높았다. 엽록소 함량은 대조품종 신선찰벼 및 남평벼보다 비해 2배 높았다. 등숙기에 엽록소 소실이 늦어 녹색 현미 찹쌀로 이용이 가능하여, 일반 쌀에 섞거나 현미밥을 지으면 연한 황록색의 시각적인 효과와 고소하고 차진 특성이 있다. 병해충에도 강하여 앞으로 친환경 기능성 쌀로 이용확대가 기대된다.

노인의 성공노화 구조모형 -선택.최적화.보상 전략을 중심으로- (Structural Equation Modeling on Successful Aging in Elders - Focused on Selection.Optimization.Compensation Strategy -)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to construct and test a structural equation modeling on specific domain health status and the Selection Optimization Compensation (SOC) strategy affecting successful aging in elderly people. Methods: The model construction was based on the SOC model by Baltes and Baltes. Interviews were done with 201 elderly people aged 65 or older. Interview contents included demographics, functional health status, emotional health status, social health status, SOC strategies, and successful aging. Data were analyzed using SPSS 15.0 and AMOS 7.0. Results: Model fit indices for the modified model were GFI=.93, CFI=.94, and RMSEA=.07. Three out of 7 paths were found to have a significant effect on successful aging in this final model. Functional health status had a direct and positive effect on successful aging. Emotional health status influenced successful aging through SOC strategies. Conclusion: This study suggests that interventions for improving functional health status and for strengthening SOC strategies are critical for successful aging. Continuous development of a variety of successful aging programs using SOC strategy is suggested.

미쉐린 레스토랑 선택속성 중요도와 만족도에 관한 연구 - 스타 레스토랑과 빕 구르망 레스토랑을 중심으로 - (A Study on Importance and Satisfaction of Michelin Restaurant Selection Attributes - Starred Restaurants and Bib Gourmand Restaurants -)

  • This study on the importance and satisfaction of selection attributes for customers using Michelin restaurants. The survey was conducted on 309 respondents who had visited and used restaurants by classifying the Michelin restaurants into starred restaurants and Bib Gourmand restaurants. The data was collected and the frequency analysis, t-test verification, and IPA analysis were performed using the SPSS 25.0 statistical program. The results of the study examined the difference between the importance and satisfaction of the choice of starred restaurants. Overall, the importance was higher than satisfaction. The importance of hygiene and cleanliness was recognized by many customers that the expectation for the overall Starred restaurants was very high. Bib Gourmand, showed that the importance was higher than satisfaction. In terms of importance and satisfaction, the taste of food is the most important and the satisfaction is high. Comparing the IPA analysis of the attributes of 1) hygiene and cleanliness, food quality, convenience, and facade of food, 2) service professionalism and variety of menus, 3) food price, atmosphere and amount, and 4) the attitude and kindness of the employees were shown. This study has great significance in providing practical basic data for the management of domestic Michelin restaurants.

In Vitro Selection of Hammerhead Ribozymes with Optimized Stems I and III

  • A pool of cis-acting hammerhead ribozymes randomized in their substrate recognition sequences was constructed. A variety of active cis-acting ribozymes which had various structures of stems I and III was selected from the pool by in vitro selection. The selected ribozymes were cloned and sequenced. The relationship between the cleavage efficiency and base-pairing in stems I and III of the selected ribozymes was investigated. The ribozymes with the smaller difference in folding energies between the active conformation and the stable but inactive conformation showed a tendency to have the better cleavage efficiency. The optimum length of stem I was 5 or 6 bases while the longer stem III, in general, appeared to be required for efficient cleavage. The specificity of the ribozyme reaction is discussed in terms of the length of stems I and III.

Probiotics용 유산균의 Design과 Molecular Typing에 의한 동정법 (Design of Lactic Acid Bacteria Aiming at Probiotic Culture and Molecular Typing for Phyogenetic Identification)

  • Over decades of work, the probiotic research has grown rapidly with a number of new cultures, which is claimed a variety of benefit. However, many of the specific effects attributed to the ingestion of probiotics remain convoluted and scientifically unsubstantiated. Accordingly, the scientific community faces a greater challenge and must objectively seek cause and effect relationships for many potential and currently investigated probiotic species. Rational selection and design of probiotics remains an important challenge and will require a solid information about the physiology and genetics of candidate strains relevant to their intestinal roles, functional activities, and interaction of with other resident micro flora. As far as beneficial culture of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) is concerned, simple, cost-effective, and exact identification of candidate strains is of foremost importance among others. Until recently, the relatedness of bacterial isolates has been determined sorely by testing for one or several phenotyphic markers, using methods such as serotyping, phage-typing, biotyping, and so forth. However, there are problems in the use of many of these phenotype-based methods. In contrast, some of newer molecular typing methods involving the analysis of DNA offer many advantages over traditional techniques. These DNA-based methods have the greater discriminatory power than that of phenotypic procedures. This review focuses on the importance and the basis of molecular typing methods along with some considerations on de-sign and selection of probiotic culture for human consumption.

STATISTICAL PROPERTIES OF GRAVITATIONAL LENSING IN COSMOLOGICAL MODELS WITH COSMOLOGICAL CONSTANT

  • To extend the work of Gott, Park, and Lee (1989), statistical properties of gravitational lensing in a wide variety of cosmological models involving non-zero cosmological constant is investigated, using the redshifts of both lens and source and observed angular separation of images for gravitational lens systems. We assume singular isothermal sphere as lensing galaxy in homogenous and isotropic Friedmann­Lemaitre-Robertson- Walker universe, Schechter luminosity function, standard angular diameter distance formula and other galaxy parameters used in Fukugita and Turner (1991). To find the most adequate flat cosmological model and put a limit on the value of dimensionless cosmological constant $\lambda_0$, the mean value of the angular separation of images, probability distribution of angular separation and cumulative probability are calculated for given source and lens redshifts and compared with the observed values through several statistical methods. When there is no angular selection effect, models with highest value of $\lambda_0$ is preferred generally. When the angular selection effects are considered, the preferred model depends on the shape of the selection functions and statistical methods; yet, models with large $\lambda_0$ are preferred in general. However, the present data can not rule out any of the flat universe models with enough confidence. This approach can potentially select out best model. But at the moment, we need more data.
