A New Synchronization Scheme for Parallel Processing of Loop with Constant and Variable Dependence Distance (불변 및 가변 종속거리를 갖는 루프의 병렬처리를 위한 새로운 동기화 기법)

  • In most application programs, loops usually comprise most of the computation in a program and are the most important source of parallelism. When loops are executed on multiprocessors, the cross iteration data dependences need to be enforced by synchronization between processors. Existing synchronization schemes have been studied mainly on the loop with constant dependence distance. When these schemes are applied to the loop with variable dependence distance, there exists lots of overhead by the use of unnecessary synchronization variables and execution of unuseful synchronization instructions. Even though there exist various variable synchronization schemes, they have a lot of run-time overhead to compute synchronization information. In this paper, we present a new synchronization scheme, Synch-Free/Synch-Hold for managing synchronization efficiently on the loop with constant and variable dependence distance.

  • The key technology for developing high quality LCDs is about manufacturing BLUs with homogeneous dot distributions. Commonly, homogeneous dot distributions are obtained by the halftoning methods which convert a gray-scale image to a binary image. Among many halftoning algorithms, the error-diffusion technique based on the principle distance is known to show homogeneous dot distributions. However, this technique has a drawback; the extent of the principle distance at each pixel with respect to those of the neighboring pixels can be too small or big creating a gap or overlap. In this paper, we propose a new error diffusion algorithm based on the variable principle distance which improves the existing error diffusion technique based on the principle distance. The variable principle distance at a given pixel is calculated with gray-scale values of the pixel and its neighbors and thus the principle distance value is variable depending on the direction from that pixel. This variable principle distance technique helps BLUs obtain homogeneous dot distributions.

A Study on the Correlativity Between Land Price and Residental Environment Elements - Focusing on the Haeundae-Gu and Suyoung-Gu in Busan City - (지가와 주거환경요소의 상관성에 관한 연구 - 부산광역시 해운대구, 수영구를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper attempted to investigate not only the correlativity of land price and residential environment elements but also the effect that the residential environment elements influence on the land price, focusing on the Suyoung-Gu and Haeundae-Gu which are representative residential and waterfront area in Pusan. For this purpose, regression analysis and correlation analysis as the residential environment elements in independent variable and the land price in dependent variable were carried out. First of all, from the correlation analysis between the land price and the residential environment elements, it become clear that the variables such as the land use, the distance to arterial road and, the distance to subway station have high correlativity with land price in all the research area. Then from the individual power of explanation and accumulative power of explanation of the each variable to the land price through the regression analysis, it was become clear that 7 variables which are the land use, the distance to trunk road, the distance to subway station etc. have 67% of the power of explanation to land price at the Suyoung-Gu, and 50.5% at the Haeundae-Gu. Moreover, researchers had an special interest in the correlativity between the distance to the coastal line and land price as well as the power of explanation of the distance to the coastal line for the land price. It means that researchers expected the variable of the distance to the coastal line have a strong correlativity and high power of explanation for land price. However, from the regression analysis and correlation analysis, it was become clear that the variable of the distance to the coastal line have a weak correlativity, and low power of explanation which is just form 6.4% to 7.6% in all the research area. In other words, it might be said that the variable of the distance to the coastal line is not so important one to presume the land price.

Fog Generated Field Test for Criteria of Sign Size of Variable Speed Limit Signs (가변 제한속도 표지판 크기기준 정립을 위한 안개재현 현장실험)

  • OBJECTIVES : A fog generated field test was conducted to analyze the relationship between different sizes of variable speed limit signs and the legibility distance under various fog density conditions. By using this study, appropriate sizes of signs can be selected depending on the density of fog. METHODS : An actual tunnel was selected as the area for this test, as other places cannot maintain the fog condition because of rapid air current. A total 121 subjects were recruited for this test, which took place over the course of four days. The test on the first day was conducted under normal weather conditions for comparison. Visibility-distance detecting sensor was used to measure the visibility distance due to the fog density time, simultaneously with the evaluation of legibility distance by subjects. RESULTS : The test results show the relationship between the different sizes of signs and the legibility distance corresponding to the visibility distance due to both non-fog and fog generated conditions. According to the technical test results, appreciable amount of reduction in legibility distance due to fog was resulted in all sizes of signs. Moreover, the legibility distance is reduced proportionately with the decrease in the visibility distance due to fog. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study can be used to select appropriate sizes of valuable speed signs under fog conditions. Hence, drivers can expect to have more room to respond to adverse weather conditions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

Discretization Method for Continuous Data using Wasserstein Distance (Wasserstein 거리를 이용한 연속형 변수 이산화 기법)

  • Discretization of continuous variables intended to improve the performance of various algorithms such as data mining by transforming quantitative variables into qualitative variables. If we use appropriate discretization techniques for data, we can expect not only better performance of classification algorithms, but also accurate and concise interpretation of results and speed improvements. Various discretization techniques have been studied up to now, and however there is still demand of research on discretization studies. In this paper, we propose a new discretization technique to set the cut-point using Wasserstein distance with considering the distribution of continuous variable values with classes of data. We show the superiority of the proposed method through the performance comparison between the proposed method and the existing proven methods.

By using this study, appropriate luminance values can be selected depending on the density of fog. Ninety-two subjects were recruited for this test, which took place during the course of three days. Visibility-distance detecting sensor was used to measure the visibility distance due to the fog density time, simultaneously with the evaluation of legibility distance by subjects. RESULTS : The test results show the relationship between luminance values and the legibility distance corresponding to the visibility distance due to fog. According to the technical test results, lower luminance value such as $7000cd/m^2$ corresponds to less legibility distance compared to higher values such as $20000cd/m^2$ or $40000cd/m^2$. However, the amount of difference between $20000cd/m^2$ and $40000cd/m^2$ is negligible in our test. CONCLUSIONS : The results of this study can be used to select appropriate luminance of valuable speed signs under fog conditions. Hence, drivers can expect to have more room to respond to adverse weather conditions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

Variable Selection and Outlier Detection for Automated K-means Clustering

  • An important problem in cluster analysis is the selection of variables that define cluster structure that also eliminate noisy variables that mask cluster structure; in addition, outlier detection is a fundamental task for cluster analysis. Here we provide an automated K-means clustering process combined with variable selection and outlier identification. The Automated K-means clustering procedure consists of three processes: (i) automatically calculating the cluster number and initial cluster center whenever a new variable is added, (ii) identifying outliers for each cluster depending on used variables, (iii) selecting variables defining cluster structure in a forward manner. To select variables, we applied VS-KM (variable-selection heuristic for K-means clustering) procedure (Brusco and Cradit, 2001). To identify outliers, we used a hybrid approach combining a clustering based approach and distance based approach. Simulation results indicate that the proposed automated K-means clustering procedure is effective to select variables and identify outliers.   • This paper compare the VSCA (Variable stepsize Square Contour Algorithm) and VSDA (Variable stepsize Square contour Decision directed Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm that is used for the minimization of the intersymbol interference which occurs in the time dispersive channel for the transmission of 16-QAM signal.. In the SCA, it is possible to compensates the amplitude and phase in the received signal that are mixed with the intersymbol interference by the constellatin dependent constant by using the 2nd order statistics of the transmitted signal. But in the VSCA and VSDA, it is possible to the improving the equalization performance by varing the stepsize using the concept of distance adjusted approach for constellation matching. We compare the performance of the VSCA and VSDA algorithm by the computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion and MSE were used in the performace index. As a result of computer simulation, the VSCA algorithm has better than the VSDA in every performance index.

Optimal Connection Algorithm of Two Kinds of Parts to Pairs using Hopfield Network (Hopfield Network를 이용한 이종 부품 결합의 최적화 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal algorithm for finding the shortest connection of two kinds of parts to pairs. If total part numbers are of size N, then there are order 2ㆍ(N/2)$^{N}$ possible solutions, of which we want the one that minimizes the energy function. The appropriate dynamic rule and parameters used in network are proposed by a new energy function which is minimized when 3-constraints are satisfied. This dynamic nile has three important parameters, an enhancement variable connected to pairs, a normalized distance term and a time variable. The enhancement variable connected to pairs have to a perfect connection of two kinds of parts to pairs. The normalized distance term get rids of a unstable states caused by the change of total part numbers. And the time variable removes the un-optimal connection in the case of distance constraint and the wrong or not connection of two kinds of parts to pairs. First of all, we review the theoretical basis for Hopfield model and present a new energy function. Then, the connection matrix and the offset bias created by a new energy function and used in dynamic nile are shown. Finally, we show examples through computer simulation with 20, 30 and 40 parts and discuss the stability and feasibility of the resultant solutions for the proposed connection algorithm.m.

Analysis Of Spatial Impact With Seoul Subway Line 7 Construction (지하철 건설에 따른 공간적 영향 분석 - 서울 지하철 7호선의 아파트가격에 미친 영향을 중심으로 -)

  • In order to account for a price variation of apartment that places near a newly constructed subway station, a spatial hedonic model was developed to examine spacial characteristics that affect a purchasing price of an apartment using a White Estimator. In particular, the paper aims to examine various effects of subway 7 construction on an apartment price in Seoul Metropolitan Area. As explanatory variables, an apartment size, distance to a closest subway station, distance to the Central Business District (CBD) of Seoul, the number of years after building, and a lagged variable of the apartment purchasing price were used. The lagged variable plays a role of representing a spatial weighted average of previous prices of other apartments that locate within 3 km from the apartment. For a precise study, an entire sample was divided into two sets, southern area and southwestern area of Seoul, and two different spatial hedonic models were estimated. Not only before and after analysis, but also with and without analysis were conducted to compare with different effects of the spatial characteristics of two areas. The results show that before the construction of the subway 7, the prices of the apartments in the southern area were more sensitive to the apartment size, the distance to a closest subway station, the distance to the CBD, and the prices of the other apartments locating within 3km rather than those in the southwestern area. After the construction, on contrast, it is found that the apartment purchasing prices in the southwestern area are more sensitive than those in the southern area due to people's expectation regarding a new development around the subway station. In addition, the prices of the apartments locating closely with a transfer station are more likely to go up by increase in the apartment size, the distance to the station, and the prices of the other apartments within 3 km. Compared with the negative effects of the distance to the station on the prices in the other models, the positive effect of the distance to the transfer station might be caused by the characteristics of commercial area in which people are not likely to live.
