  • The functional external fixator system fur bone deformity near joints in legs using the worm gear was developed for curing the difference angles in fracture bone and the lengthening bar for curing the difference length in fracture bone. Both experiments and FE analysis were performed to compare the elastic stiffness in several loading modes and to improve the functional external fixator system for the bone deformity. The FE model using the compressive and bending FE analysis was applied to the FE analysis due to the angle differences. The results show that the compressive stiffness value in experiment was 175.43N/mm; the bending stiffness value in experiment was 259.74N/mm; compressive stiffness value in FEM was 188.67N/mm; bending stiffness value in FEA was 285.71N/mm. The errors between experiments and FEA were less than 10%. The maximum stress (157MPa) to the angle of clamp was lower than the yield stress (176.4MPa) of SUS316L. The stiffnesses in both axial compressive and bending of the new fixator are about 2 times higher than other products except EBI (2003).

  • This paper is the second part of several companion papers which compare the method of Air-fuel ratio(AFR) determination. In the previous paper, Eltinge chart was applied to the arbitrary fuel composition and the charts for gasoline, diesel, methanol, M85, liquefied petroleum gas(LPG), natural gas(NG), propane and butane were illustrated. In Eltinge chart, however, unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) is not used for determination of AFR. For improving accuracy, Eltinge suggested UHC compensation after the AFR reading in the chart. This compensation reduced the difference between real and reading value. In the compensation, however, the correction of oxygen and carbon dioxide is uncertain and there might be a mistake in conversion of UHC reading value. Therefore, the error is overestimated comparing with Spindt one which is most widely used. In addition, there is no comparison of the value with other useful methods. In this paper, the compensation of unburned HC was performed in Eltinge chart and the compensated value was compared with Spindts formula over wide range of AFR. The objects of investigating fuel are gasoline, methanol, NG and LPG. The result shows that Eltinge and Spindt method is flawlessly compatible and the difference between the two methods is under 0.3% in a λrange from 0.9 to 1.7. The method fur debugging instrumentation error is also presented.

  • We have investigated the transient behavior of 1D fully developed Poiseuille viscoelastic flow under finite pressure gradient described by the Oldroyd-B and Leonov constitutive equations. For analysis we employ a simple $2^{nd}$ order discretization scheme such as central difference for space and the Crank-Nicolson for time approximation. For the analysis of the Oldroyd-B model, we also apply the analytical solution, which is obtained again in this work in terms of elementary solution procedure simpler than the previous one (Waters and King, 1970). Both models demonstrate qualitatively similar solutions, but their eventual steady flowrate exhibits noticeable difference due to the absence or presence of shear thinning behavior. In the inertialess flow, the flowrate instantaneously attains a large value corresponding to the Newtonian creeping flow and then decreases to its steady value when the applied pressure gradient is low. However with finite liquid density the flow field shows severe fluctuation even accompanying reversals of flow directions. As the assigned pressure gradient increases, the flowrate achieves its steady value significantly higher than its value during oscillations after quite long period of time. We have also illustrated comparison between 1D and 2D results and possible mechanism of complex 2D flow rearrangement employing a previous solution of [mite element computation. In addition, we discuss some mathematical points regarding missing boundary conditions in 2D modeling due to the change of the type of differential equations when varying from inertialess to inertial flow.

  • This study is the know the difference bond strength according to painting method of Opaque porcelain. Among Porcelain powder for Porcelain, Noritake powder, Bonding agent 1 class and metal are selected as Base metal alloy. And painting method of Opaque porcelain is divided by 4 groups : PG, WG, NG and DG. Also it is to manufacture 24 sheets of Specimen by 6 each every method and to measure Crack-initiation Strength of Metal-porcelain and it is to observe it by Scanning electron microscope. I come to get a conclusion as follows. 1. As for Debonding strength of every experiment groups, it showed that WS group which executed Wash bake had highest value, 44.25MPa and NG group which used Normal powder had value, 42.11MPa and DG group which used Bonding agent had value, 35.88MPa and PG group which used Paste opaque had value, 35.39MPa. 2. In four painting methods of Opaque porcelain, PG group, WG group, NG group and DG group, there is no significant difference statistically in Crack-initiation Strength. 3. As a result of observing fracture surface with Scanning electron microscope, it was showde that PG group remained a lot of particle of porcelain on the surface of metal than WG group, NG group and DG group.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in tuberculous pleural effusions (TPEs) and malignant pleural effusions (MPEs). Pleural effusion (PE) samples from 100 patients were classified on the basis of diagnosis as TPE (n=57) and MPE (n=43). The activity of SOD was determined by pyrolgallol assay. A significant difference was observed in SOD activity (P<0.01) between TPE and MPE, levels of being significantly higher in TPE compared to MPE. With a threshold value of 41 U/L, the area under the ROC curve was 0.653, SOD had a sensitivity of 61.4% and a specificity of 61.0% for differential diagnosis. Thus, SOD activity in PE was not a good biomarker in differentiating TPE and MPE. To the best of our knowledge, five SOD isoforms may be present in PE. Identification of which SOD contributes to the difference of SOD level between TPE and MPE is very important for illustrating mechanisms and improving the differential diagnostic value.

  • In this study, effects of alkali swelling at low concentration below 2 percent on properties of hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HwBKP) were elucidated. Swelling treatment of HwBKP was performed at various NaOH concentrations with/without beating. Then, the swelling characteristics of pulp fiber was evaluated by measuring the solvent retention values such as water retention value (WRV) and isopropyl alcohol retention value (LRV). It was found that fiber characteristics were influenced by NaOH swelling even at low alkali concentration and beating treatment as well. The values of WRV and LRV were decreased when the alkali concentration was increased. It is the result from the decreased acidic groups of pulp which were formed during beating. The acidic groups could be neutralized and then removed by alkali. The difference between WRV and LRV was decreased with increasing alkali concentration while the difference was increased when the alkali swollen pulp was beaten. In addition, the crystalline structure of HwBKP was almost not changed while the crystallinity was influenced by swelling treatment at a low alkali concentration.

  • PURPOSE. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility of the abutment angle using a blue light scanner. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 0°, 6°, and 10° wax cast abutment dies were fabricated. Each of the silicone impression was produced using the replicable silicone. Each study die was constructed from the prepared replicable stone used for scans. 3-dimensional data was obtained after scanning the prepared study dies for the repeatability by using the blue light scanner. The prepared 3-dimensional data could have the best fit alignment using 3-dimensional software. For reproducibility, each abutment was used as the first reference study die, and then it was scanned five times per each. 3-dimensional software was used to perform the best fit alignment. The data obtained were analyzed using a nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test (α=.05), post hoc Mann-Whitney U test, and Bonferroni correction (α=.017). RESULTS. The repeatability of 0°, 6°, and 10° abutments was 3.9, 4.4 and 4.7 ㎛, respectively. Among them, the 0° abutment had the best value while the 10° abutment showed the worst value. There was a statistically significant difference (P<.05). The reproducibility of 0°, 6°, and 10° abutments was 6.1, 5.5, and 5.3 ㎛, respectively. While the 10° abutment showed the best value, the 0° abutment showed the worst value. However, there was no statistically significant difference (P>.05). CONCLUSION. In repeatability, the 0° abutment showed a positive result. In reproducibility, the 10° abutment achieved a positive result.

  • In case of a difference exist between the experimental value and estimated value of back-emf, there can be a difference of turn number or residual flux density of permanent maget of the motor. In order to presume the turn number, the average length for each coil is used to calculate the resistance. However in producing the motor, doc to the tension of coil, the outer diameter of coil becomes smaller, and then the resistance estimated by average length for each coil is not correct. Therefore in this paper, through the comparison of experiment value and estimated value of inductance, a method of presuming the turn number and PM's residual flux density of an IPM motor is presented. The inductance of IPM motor changes with the rotor position, therefore the rotor part is taken out and then the inductance in open circuit condition is measured. In the analytical calculation, 3D FEM(Finite Element Method) is used, which can consider the leakage flux of end turns in frinzing effect.
