  • This Study analyzed the use of statistics in 1,768 research articles published in 2001-2004 in 4 korean & 6 English core journals in the field of library and information science. Korean journals made significantly less use of descriptive and inferential statistics. Of the 663 inferential statistics used in 345 of the 1768 articles, the most frequently used inferential technique was multivariate analysis. There was significant difference in inferential methods used in Korean & English journals, also in traditional library science journals and information science journals.

  • After researching users'satisfaction on central library service of Daejin university, it shows that they are generally satisfied with facilities but not with the service that supports library use, and satisfied with a book and serial Publications but not with others including thesis. Also, it is shown that librarians in communication with users are insufficient, and their professionalism and capacity are acknowledged but their insincerity and perfunctory attitude are viewed negative to users. Therefore librarians need to actively promote their service to users. Besides, it will be beneficial for librarians to use bulletin board of homepage as a way to continuously reflect claims and complaints from users.

  • Introduction. Inadequate methods for acquiring user education could affect the level of library user education possessed by postgraduate students, and ultimately influence the purposes of their usage of e-resources provided in their university libraries. Despite the global acceptance that e-resources are contributing to postgraduate student’s research work, however, it has been documented that there is low use of e-resources in university libraries in Nigeria among postgraduate students. This drift could have negative consequences on their overall development. Therefore, this study determined how influential library user education is on the use of e-resources by postgraduate students in Nigerian university libraries.Methods. A survey research design and multi-stage sampling technique was adopted to select 2,726 from 54,578 postgraduate students from four faculties in 16 federal conventional universities in Nigeria. The data set was collected using a questionnaire and an interview schedule for e-resources librarians/system librarians and was analysed using percentage and Pearson’s product moment correlation.Results. The majority of the students were at the Master’s level (57.5%). The gender shows a ratio of 59.0% male and 41.0% female. Most Nigerian students enrol for postgraduate programmes in their thirties ‘30-39’ years. The use of e-resources by the postgraduates was low (weighted average of 2.45). The relationship between level of library user education and postgraduate students’ use of e-resources was positive, slightly strong, and significant (r = 318; df = 2284; p< .05).Conclusion. User education has positively inclined postgraduate students to the use of e-resources in their libraries. Therefore, libraries should employ all methods for acquiring user education for postgraduate students.

  • To transfer the large size of data more quickly among cluster nodes, the lightweight messaging scheme has been developed. VIA(Virtual Interface Architecture) allows that user can directly communicate with network devices without any interference of kernel and has become a communication protocol for clusters. But one must spend a lot of time to be skillful with it because of difficulties of programming. Therefore, we propose an easier library called EVIL(Easy-to-use Virtual Interface Library) that developers can easily deal with. We evaluated the performance of EVIL, Native VIA, TCP/IP respectively.

  • The aims of automation efforts in libraries are the rationalization of interval work and improvement of user services. After a period of exclusive internal computer utilization, later voluntary contact with the computer (e.g., circulation control with self services), patrons of American libraries now have to go to a computer terminal if they want certain information. Online public access catalogs(OPAC) have been used in American libraries since the end of the seventies. But OP AC are accepted by patron only if they have a useful and flexible user interface. This paper briefly describes the use of online catalogs in different type of libraries, categories of user (user, non-user), aspect of catalog use in context with computer experience etc. The disscussion then focuses on the characteristics of the final report of online catalog use study of Council on Library Resources and user problems in searching, as reported in many other catalog use studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of e-books usage in small university library and to suggest implications for e-book management policies. To do that, a survey was conducted with students in a local small university, and the valid responses of 259 people were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the preference of paper books (71%) was higher than that of e-books (12%). However, satisfaction with e-books (45.6%) was higher than that of paper books (27.9%) if they had experience using e-books. In addition, satisfaction was highest when using e-books for general reading, and it was found that the use device preferred to use a tablet. Based on the results of this study, we proposed some suggestions; 1) establishment of e-books service policy and promotion plan, 2) use of e-books dedicated devices and development of user-friendly e-books using environment, 3) providing various topics of e-books, 4) formation of an association for joint use of e-books between small library universities.

  • This study analyzed the effect of technology preparation and technology acceptance factors on the intention of public library librarians to use artificial intelligence-based technology using the technology acceptance model. To this end, a survey was conducted on public library librarians, and a total of 202 survey data were used for statistical analysis. As a result of the hypothesis test, first, optimism has a significant positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness, and discomfort has a significant negative (-) effect. Optimism and innovation on perceived ease of use were found to have a significant positive (+) effect, and discomfort was found to have a significant negative (-) effect. Second, perceived ease of use was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness, and both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use had a significant positive (+) effect on the intention to use. Third, optimism was found to have a significant positive (+) effect on the intention to use, and anxiety was found to have a significant negative (-) effect. This study is expected to provide basic data on the use of artificial intelligence technology in the future by empirically analyzing public library librarians' perceptions of artificial intelligence-based technology.

  • Because of the changes made in the modes of cataloguing and classification in its long history, the present catalogue of the National Central Library has become complicated and provides an inadequate guide to its collection. There can be no doubt that this is a serious deficiency in a closed access library since materials housed in the library are virtually inaccessible to unskilled readers. The whole breakdown of the efficiency of the catalogue is emminent and will ultimately create the most serious problems for the library. The main purpose of this survey is: (a) to identify problem areas created by the frequent changes in the cataloguing and classifying principles in the library and (b) to grope a rational direction for the future development. Analysing the various classification schemes and cataloguing rules adopted in processing materials (mainly books) in the library, the following conclusions have been made. A. The library adopted five different clasification schemes in different periods, of which KDCP was used for the most part of its collection. KDCP is recommended to use for the future colletion. A classification development office is recommended to be established within the library, of which the main function is to revise the KDCP in collaboration with the appropriate committee of the Korean Library Association. B. The present practice in the library is to apply three different cataloguing rules and two different author notation tables to the Oriental, classical, and Western collections. Efforts should be made to find out an efficient system so that this variety is simplified. An alphabetical index should be added to the classified catalogue, and improvements are required in the Japanese collection. C. The technical services division is inadequately staffed. The staff should be sufficiently numerous and specially qualified. D. The present financial support for the technical services of the library is inadequate. Sufficient financial provision should be made to ensure the effective work. E. A feasibility study should be carried out to develop a computer processing system for providing machine-readable catalogue records on magnetic tape for use by the library community in Korea.

  • This research empirically analyzed the effect of information sharing through the use of public libraries on the construction and consolidation of social capital of individuals. Through the survey targeting public library users, it was identified that the frequency of public library use and the participation of public library programs have positive effect on the recognition of information sharing and the reliability of information shared. In addition, information sharing among people became more active when public libraries mediate their information activities. This public library-mediated information sharing positively affects the construction of structural and relational social capital. In contrast, it does not have significant meaning on the construction of cognitive social capital, which means that information sharing and the use of public library relatively concentrate on satisfying personal information needs.
