  • The increase of meteorological uncertainty and unstable fluctuation of its behavior due to the global warming affect the temporal variation and spatial distribution of water resources and water use patterns in agriculture. There have been steady efforts to understand hydrological components and deal with such water related problems. This paper reviews firstly, the future effect of water resources due to climate changes, secondly, recent progress for precipitation, evapotranspiration, soil moisture, and thirdly, GIS/RS based integrated information systems conducted by both researchers and government ministries. There should be continuous studies and investments to cope with climate changes, and to accomplish sustainable development with the help of agricultural water resources. Some research topics were suggested to attempt with substantial contents considering our present capability and situation.

  • This paper depicts a study conducted on the behavior of physical education students towards Internet usage at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Specially, the study aims to know the purposes for use of Internet resources and services, frequency of use, places and means of use, student's satisfaction level toward the Internet, and problems faced while using the Internet. A survey was carried out with a sample of 100 physical education students of Kurukshetra University and the response rate was 88%. A well-designed questionnaire was distributed to the students' sample. Amazingly, the results of the study reveal that usage of the Internet in research and education was not favored, whereas email, chatting, and sports websites were commonly used among students. The study also found that too much information on the Internet, slow access speeds, and finding relevant information were the main problems in using the Internet.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the awareness and utilization of the Internet resources and services for academic activities by the academic staff of tertiary institutions in Adamawa State. The researchers adopted a quantitative research method using cross-sectional survey design to collect data from the respondents. Multi-stage sampling techniques were used. Three hundred and thirty-three (333) copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents in the eight (8) sampled institutions and two hundred and ninety-two (292) respondents representing (87.6%) were returned and found useful. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics by the use of SPSS version 20.0. The findings revealed that respondents were aware of all the Internet resources, (e-books, e-journals, and online databases), but regarding the Internet services, they were mostly aware of only the e-mail. The study further found that online database and e-mail as the most Internet resources and services utilized by the respondents. There are inverse and weak relationship between awareness and utilization of the Internet resources and services by the academic staff of tertiary institutions in Adamawa State. The study recommends increase awareness and use to other Internet resources such as the e-books and e-journal and Internet services, especially Usenet, Discussion group and Telnet by the management of the institutions through training, workshops/conferences for better academic activities.

  • Cloud systems are popular computing environment because they can provide easy access to computing resources for users as well as efficient use of resources for companies. The resources of cloud computing are heterogeneous and jobs have various characteristics. One such issue is effective job scheduling. Scheduling in the cloud system may be defined as a multiple criteria decision model. To address this issue, this paper proposes a priority-based two-step job scheduling algorithm. On the first level, jobs are classified based on preference. Resources are dedicated to a job if a deadline failure would cause severe results or critical business losses. In case of only minor discomfort or slight functional impairment, the job is scheduled using a best effort approach. On the second level, jobs are allocated to adequate resources through their priorities that are calculated by the analytic hierarchic process model. We then analyze the proposed algorithm and make a scheduling example to confirm its efficiency.

  • This study was investigated to the geography services and geographical directories through Internet in order to develop a geographical directory. Research method was the examination of different type of geography services through internet and geographical directories on the Internet search engines. The results show principles for a geographical directory construction: use both geographical names and subject names on the initial directory screen, repeated use the names through directory hierarchy, locality use on bottom directory as a geographical name, and fit use of the number of directories.

  • This paper proposes a statistical-based linguistic methodology for automatic mapping between large-scale heterogeneous languages resources for NLP applications in general. As a particular case, it treats automatic mapping between two large-scale heterogeneous Korean language resources: Sejong Semantic Classes (SJSC) in the Sejong Electronic Dictionary (SJD) and nouns in KorLex. KorLex is a large-scale Korean WordNet, but it lacks syntactic information. SJD contains refined semantic-syntactic information, with semantic labels depending on SJSC, but the list of its entry words is much smaller than that of KorLex. The goal of our study is to build a rich language resource by integrating useful information within SJD into KorLex. In this paper, we use both linguistic and statistical methods for constructing an automatic mapping methodology. The linguistic aspect of the methodology focuses on the following three linguistic clues: monosemy/polysemy of word forms, instances (example words), and semantically related words. The statistical aspect of the methodology uses the three statistical formulae ${\chi}^2$, Mutual Information and Information Gain to obtain candidate synsets. Compared with the performance of manual mapping, the automatic mapping based on our proposed statistical linguistic methods shows good performance rates in terms of correctness, specifically giving recall 0.838, precision 0.718, and F1 0.774.

  • This study is to develop an operating model of Conspectus for online resources by using mechanistic quality factor. Based on some empirical statistics about resource use behaviour such as collection rate, use rate, search rate, the mechanistic quality factor was calculated and applied to each subject by adjusting its acquisition level of Conspectus. according to the result of this study, Acqusition levels of the subject such as technical science which shows higher in use rate, and those such as history and social science which show higher in search rate, should be adjusted to a higher acquisition level, and those of others to the same or a lower level.

  • The water resources information system of a watershed should be set up to understand the water management problems with reflecting basin characteristics for the effective water use. This study is to develop a watershed management system to be operated in water resources and water quality management. In order to promote effective utilization of this system, the various kinds of information data are collected, and this system could be utilized as a valuable tool for maximum uses of them. The information system developed in this study is constructed with GUI(graphic user interface) system using Arc-View and Visual Basic at the circumstances based on the PC. The integrated GIS and Remote Sensing based system is directed to the need for more detailed information on watershed management. The ability to present system clearly provides an indispensable tool for a river basin development and water management plan.
