  • Neural network based models of semiconductor manufacturing processes have been shown to offer advantages in both accuracy and generalization over traditional methods. However, model development is often complicated by the fact that back-propagation neural networks contain several adjustable parameters whose optimal values unknown during training. These include learning rate, momentum, training tolerance, and the number of hidden layer neurOnS. This paper presents an investigation of the use of genetic algorithms (GAs) to determine the optimal neural network parameters for the modeling of plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) of silicon dioxide films. To find an optimal parameter set for the neural network PECVD models, a performance index was defined and used in the GA objective function. This index was designed to account for network prediction error as well as training error, with a higher emphasis on reducing prediction error. The results of the genetic search were compared with the results of a similar search using the simplex algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet neural network(WNN) based predictive control method for path tracking of mobile robots with multi-input and multi-output. In our control method, we use a WNN as a state predictor which combines the capability of artificial neural networks in learning processes and the capability of wavelet decomposition. A WNN predictor is tuned to minimize errors between the WNN outputs and the states of mobile robot using the gradient descent rule. And control signals, linear velocity and angular velocity, are calculated to minimize the predefined cost function using errors between the reference states and the predicted states. Through a computer simulation for the tracking performance according to varied track, we demonstrate the efficiency and the feasibility of our predictive control system.

  • The materials on the development of modern architecture in Korea are being collected and organized in a systemic fashion. However, this is not the case with the materials relative to interior design. They are gradually disappearing or being lost. In particular, no serious attempt has yet been made to determine the characteristics and historic value of the interior design of the modern bank buildings. The purpose of this study is to trace the disappearing legacy of the interior design of modern bank buildings by learning the inner space arrangements of these buildings and the characteristics of modern interior design in order to determine the historic significance of modern commercial interior design. Banks of relatively large scale were selected for the purpose of this study. They consisted of: Chosun Bank(1911) and its Andong, Wonsan and Cheongjin branches; Chosun Shiksan Banks and its Busan, Daegu and Pyongyang branches; the Busan branch of the 18 Bank; Dongil Bank, Chosun Savings Bank(1935) and their branches. The study focused on the space arrangements and design characteristics of these banks. Although they aimed at modernization in designingtheir interior spaces, the modern bank buildings were not representative of any particular style of interior design. While western style designs were prevalent, eclectic designs incorporating many different styles existed. The characteristics of the interior design of banks of the time included installation of such decorations and use of high quality construction materials for interior and exterior expressing the wealth as to create an aura of credibility for the banks, while the floor arrangements were relatively stereotyped and simplified.

  • Employing knowledge of adaptive possibilities of agents in multi-agents system, we have explored new aspects of distributed modular systems for building ubiquitous heterogeneous robotic systems using intelligent building blocks (I-BLOCKS) [1] as reconfigurable modules. This paper describes early technological approaches related to technical design, experimental developments and evaluation of adaptive processing and information interaction among I-BLOCKS allowing users to easily develop modular robotic systems. The processing technology presented in this paper is embedded inside each $DUPLO^1$ brick by microprocessor as well as selected sensors and actuators in addition. Behaviors of an I-BLOCKS modular structure are defined by the internal processing functionality of each I-Block in such structure and communication capacities between I-BLOCKS. Users of the I-BLOCKS system can easily do 'programming by building' and thereby create specific functionalities of a modular robotic structure of intelligent artefacts without the need to learn and use traditional programming language. From investigating different effects of modern artificial intelligence, I-BLOCKS we have developed might possibly contain potential possibilities for developing modular robotic system with different types of morphology, functionality and behavior. To assess these potential I-BLOCKS possibilities, the paper presents a limited range of different experimental scenarios in which I-BLOCKS have been used to set-up reconfigurable modular robots. The paper also reports briefly about earlier experiments of I-BLOCKS created on users' natural inspiration by a just defined concept of modular artefacts.

  • Systematic information protection education is necessary to evoke the importance of information protection to the students and to provide them with alternatives to cope with malicious attacks. However, there have been too little development of the methods of systematic education and teaching materials to allow an effective education of information protection in the classrooms today. In this paper, we developed principle-oriented visual learning materials using UCC (User Created Content) for an effective education of information protection and evaluated the effectiveness of our approach with independent sample t-test method after being used in two classes, a test group and a control group. In particular, using UCCs, which have become the most frequently used contents in the Internet, as visual material for the education of information protection, proved to be effective in promoting the interest of students in classes and highly useful in education.

  • The purpose of this literature review is to investigate what kinds of research have been done about scientific inquiry in terms of scientific argumentation in the classroom context from the upper elementary to the high school levels. First, science educators argued that there had not been differentiation between authentic scientific inquiry by scientists and school scientific inquiry by students in the classroom. This uncertainty of goals or definition of scientific inquiry has led to the problem or limitation of implementing scientific inquiry in the classroom. It was also pointed out that students' learning science as inquiry has been done without opportunities of argumentation to understand how scientific knowledge is constructed. Second, what is scientific argumentation, then? Researchers stated that scientific inquiry in the classroom cannot be guaranteed only through hands-on experimentation. Students can understand how scientific knowledge is constructed through their reasoning skills using opportunities of argumentation based on their procedural skills using opportunities of experimentation. Third, many researchers emphasized the social practices of small or whole group work for enhancing students' scientific reasoning skills through argumentations. Different role of leadership in groups and existence of teachers' roles are found to have potential in enhancing students' scientific reasoning skills to understand science as inquiry. Fourth, what is scientific reasoning? Scientific reasoning is defined as an ability to differentiate evidence or data from theory and coordinate them to construct their scientific knowledge based on their collection of data (Kuhn, 1989, 1992; Dunbar & Klahr, 1988, 1989; Reif & Larkin, 1991). Those researchers found that students skills in scientific reasoning are different from scientists. Fifth, for the purpose of enhancing students' scientific reasoning skills to understand how scientific knowledge is constructed, other researchers suggested that teachers' roles in scaffolding could help students develop those skills. Based on this literature review, it is important to find what kinds of generalizable teaching strategies teachers use for students scientific reasoning skills through scientific argumentation and investigate teachers' knowledge of scientific argumentation in the context of scientific inquiry. The relationship between teachers' knowledge and their teaching strategies and between teachers teaching strategies and students scientific reasoning skills can be found out if there is any.

  • This paper proposes a new solution about physical problem of autonomous mobile robots system using ultrasonic sensors. An mobile robot uses several sensors for recognition of its circumstance. However, such sensor data are not accurate all the time. A means of removing the noise that sensor data contains constantly, It is possible for simulation to estimate its circumstance based on ultrasonic sensor data by learning algorithm SVR(Support Vector Regression). To use SVR, it is being selected parameter and kernel which are the component of SVR. Selecting the component of SVR, the most accurate parameter data was selected through the tests because it is not existed determined data. In addition, choosing the kernel uses RBF(Radial Basis Function) kernel which is the most generalized. This paper proposes SVR based algorithm to compensate for the above demerits of ultrasonic sensor through the experimentation under three different environments.

  • As cyber threats have been increased over the Internet, the invasions of personal information are constantly occurring. A malicious user can access the Web site as a normal user using leaked personal information and does illegal activities. This paper proposes an effective method which authenticates a genuine user with real-time. The method use the user's profile which is a record of user's behavior created by Membership Analysis(MA) and Markov Chain Model(MCM). In addition to, user's profile is augmented by a Time Weight(TW) which reflects the user's tendency. This method can detect a malicious user who camouflage normal user. Even if it is a genuine user, it can be determined as an abnomal user if the user acts beyond the record profile. The result of experiment showed a high accuracy, 96%, for the correct user.

  • This study deals with development of an evaluating tool for flow experience and presence to evaluate interactive digital contents. The tool is able to measure the grade of flow and presence by surveying with their factors which are known to affect flow experience and presence. One of reasons for reducing flow experience and presence in 3D digital contents is that the experience in the virtual world is different from user's prerequisite learning in the real life. The recent interactive contents using physical movement of users as an input is possible to provide unsafe situation to users due to the different experience. The suggested flow measurement tool is able to evaluate presence and flow experience of an interactive 3D contents as well as flow and presence factors are possible to use as a general guideline for all stages of producing interactive 3D digital contents.
