  • As many companies have been interested in big data, they have invested a lot of resources to get more customer data. Some companies try to trade the data illegally. In order to collect more customer data, companies provide various incentive programs to customers. However, their results are normally much less than their expectations. This study focuses on exploring the relative importance of the factors which influence customer attitudes to providing his/her personal information. This study conducts a conjoint analysis to assess trade-offs among the five influential factors-monetary reward, concern for data collection, concern for secondary use, concern for unauthorized use, and concern for errors. This study finds that the customer attitude to providing personal information is most influenced by the concern for secondary use. Furthermore, it shows that there are some differences between the light internet user group and the heavy internet user group in the relative importances of these factors. The monetary rewards appeal to the heavy internet users, rather than the light internet users.

  • Cloud storage is provided as a service in order to keep pace with the increasing use of digital information. It can be used to store data via networks and various devices and is easy to access. Unlike existing removable storage, many users can use cloud storage because it has no storage capacity limit and does not require a storage medium. Cloud storage reliability has become a topic of importance, as many users employ it for saving great volumes of data. For protection against unethical administrators and attackers, a variety of cryptography systems, such as searchable encryption and proxy re-encryption, are being applied to cloud storage systems. However, the existing searchable encryption technology is inconvenient to use in a cloud storage environment where users upload their data. This is because this data is shared with others, as necessary, and the users with whom the data is shared change frequently. In this paper, we propose a searchable re-encryption scheme in which a user can safely share data with others by generating a searchable encryption index and then re-encrypt it.

  • The use of satellite remote sensing in maritime safety and security can aid in the detection of illegal fishing activities and provide more efficient use of limited aircraft or patrol craft resources. In the area of vessel traffic monitoring for commercial vessels, Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) which use the ground-based radar system have some difficulties in detecting moving ships due to the limited detection range. A virtual vessel traffic control system is introduced to contribute to prevent a marine accident such as collision and stranding from happening. Existing VTS has its limit. The virtual vessel traffic control system consists of both data acquisition by satellite remote sensing and a simulation of traffic environment stress based on the satellite data, remotely sensed data. And it could be used to provide timely and detailed information about the marine safety, including the location, speed and direction of ships, and help us operate vessels safely and efficiently. If environmental stress values are simulated for the ship information derived from satellite data, proper actions can be taken to prevent accidents. Since optical sensor has a high spatial resolution, JERS satellite data are used to track ships and extract their information. We present an algorithm of automatic identification of ship size and velocity. This paper lastly introduce the field testing results of ship detection by RADARSAT SAR imagery, and propose a new approach for a Vessel Monitoring System(VMS), including VTS, and SAR combination service.

  • It is quite important for manufacturing firms to stably secure water, because industrial water is used for a variety of purposes as one of the important inputs in the production process. Despite the significance of industrial water use and the increase of industrial water demand, relatively little has studied regarding the industrial water use in Korea. This paper employs the marginal productivity approach in order to estimate the economic value of water in Korean manufacturing industry, and we use the information of 53,912 factories surveyed in 2003. The result of the likelihood ratio test shows that Trans-log is an appropriate model for estimating the data of this study. In Trans-log function model, the industry-wide output elasticity of water is 0.0104, and the marginal value is KRW 1,156 per ton. The estimated values differ across the sectors and these values range from the high value of about KRW 13,760 per ton in the transportation equipment sector to low values of KRW 428 per ton in the precision instrument sector. The research provides useful information to help policy-makers in developing and implementing more appropriate policies regarding the management and distribution of water resources by estimating the value of water resources by sector. In addition, Korean government enables the drafting of future water pricing scenarios based on the estimated value information.

  • This study aims to conduct a big data analysis of public library operations and uses of 16 metropolitan local government of Korea by using the Chernoff face method. This study is the first to use the Chernoff face method for big data analysis of library services in library and information research. The association of variables and human facial features was decided by survey. The study reveals that in general the provincial governments in Korea operate more libraries, invest more budgets, allocate more staff and hold more collections than metropolitan cities. This administration resulted in more use of libraries in provincial governments than metropolitan cities.

  • Libraries should offer their services to all users including those who find difficult to access knowledge information without any obstacles or discrimination. Therefore, this study, aiming at providing library services to all users by applying 'Universal Design' to libraries, extracted and presented five components in library services: universal convenience, which allows all users to use libraries; safety of services, which offers safety in library use; user-orientedness, which offers user-oriented library services; user request, which allows library services reflecting the needs of users; and economic feasibility of the services, which provide efficient and economic library services. The proposed five components will play the foundational role in implementing universal design on libraries so that all users can use library services.

  • Understanding teachers in the early childhood education is crucial as it can not only affect the quality of children's education but also cause many critical problems such as child abuse. A significant amount of research work has been made on the use of robots in childcare classrooms. The finding from the research has shown many advantages such as the improvement of learning performance, social/emotional skills, creativity, concentration period, physical and cognitive development. However, most of the study has been implemented at the K-12 classrooms but not much has been focused on the education at the early childhood classrooms. Importantly, it is very crucial to understand teachers' perception, demands and technical competence about the new teaching tool, in order to maximize its educational effect. This paper investigates some critical issues existing in both teaching and managing in the early childhood education. It will also explore teachers' perceptions and expectations on the use of robots to identify some dilemmas that exist in their working and teaching environment. A survey study was conducted with 119 early childhood educators in South Korea. It analyzed the educators' perception of using robots to improve their teaching performance and to make better outcomes for children, investigated job satisfaction and difficulties that they have in the current work environment. This paper concludes with several guidelines for integrating and setting robotics in the early childhood environment, in order to engender productive outcomes for the future early childhood education.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time bus arrival notification system using deep learning to guarantee movement rights for the visually impaired. In modern society, by using location information of public transportation, users can quickly obtain information about public transportation and use public transportation easily. However, since the existing public transportation information system is a visual system, the visually impaired cannot use it. In Korea, various laws have been amended since the 'Act on the Promotion of Transportation for the Vulnerable' was enacted in June 2012 as the Act on the Movement Rights of the Blind, but the visually impaired are experiencing inconvenience in using public transportation. In particular, from the standpoint of the visually impaired, it is impossible to determine whether the bus is coming soon, is coming now, or has already arrived with the current system. In this paper, we use deep learning technology to learn bus numbers and identify upcoming bus numbers. Finally, we propose a method to notify the visually impaired by voice that the bus is coming by using TTS technology.

  • Wireless and mobile communication technologies enable individuals who trade stocks and bonds to use mobile-based trading services. Due to rapidly developing mobile technologies and adoption of the advanced/smart mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets, the use of mobile trading systems (MTS) have increased at an unexpected rate. Although many prior studies measured service quality on various service-related fields, there are few studies that is related to mobile trading systems compared to more traditional PC-based home trading systems. This research searches determinants of service quality for mobile trading systems and examines the effects of these factors on the intention to mobile trading systems' continuous use. Through an extensive literature review, this research finds three dimensions for mobile trading systems : interaction quality, service environment quality, and service outcome quality. The result of analysis shows that personalization, connectivity, ease of use, informativeness, and monetary value enhance the intention to continuous use. Considering environmental conditions such as the high rate of MTS adoption among individual users and stiffer competition among securities firms, these findings may help practically securities firms' shaping MTS system development strategies for individual users' continuous use and for increasing new users adoption.
