Efficient Native Processing Modules for Interactive DTV Middleware Based on the Small Footprint Set-Top Box

  • The concept of middleware for digital TV receivers is not new one. Using middleware for digital TV development has a number of advantages. It makes it easier for manufacturers to hide differences in the underlying hardware. It also offers a standard platform for application developers. Digital TV middleware enables set-top boxes(STBs) to run video, audio, and applications. The main concern of digital TV middleware is now to reduce its memory usage because most STBs in the market are small footprint. In this paper, we propose several ideas about how to reduce the required memory size on the runtime area of DTV middleware using a new native process technology. Our proposed system has two components; the Efficient Native Process Module, and Enhanced Native Interface APIs for concurrent native modules. With our approach, the required memory reduced from 50% up to 75% compared with the traditional approach. It can be suitable for low end STBs of very low hardware limitation.

  • Recently, the importance of the network using Fieldbus is being increased in an implementation of factory automation system. In spite of expanding the concept and products of Fieldbus, it is not widely used yet. This is partly due to the lack of the standard specification and the relatively low performance with respect to the cost. So, in order to expand the usage of the Fieldbus, not only the standardization effort, but. also the increase of performance is needed. In this paper, the method which increases the performance of Fieldbus by reforming of the sensor and the actuator data is thoroughly estimated and evaluated when the assumptions about the real-time characteristics of a robot workcell as an example of the ICCS(Integrated Communication and Control System) are sustained.

  • Steel slag is produced during steel making process. Compared with the blast furnace slag, converter slag has the expansibility due to the reaction with water and free CaO. Therefore it is specified in Standard Specification for Concrete in Korea that steel slag aggregate must not be used in concrete. In this study, atomized steel slag aggregate is conducted from converter slag by the atomizing method. Atomized steel slag and conventional converter slag are same in its composite by nature in the converter but compounds of the composite become different because of different method of slag treatment. Especially atomized steel slag aggregate overcomes expansibility that is the weak point for usage. It is researched whether it has the possibility, suitability for fine aggregate in concrete. Slump and air content are measured in fresh concrete, compressive and bending strength in hardened concrete. These is compared with control concrete with washed sand.

Six color separation using the color difference and granularity (색차와 낟알 무늬 값을 이용한 6색 분리 방법)

  • This parer proposes the six color separation using th color difference and granularity. Conventional method using the color difference increases the graininess in the bright region due to the usage of the cyan or magenta. To reduce the graininess in the bright region, we proposed the six color separation minimizing the graininess within the tolerance of the co]or difference. Initially, granularity is calculated based on the standard deviation of the lightness value and chrominance of the SCIELAB space and is applied to the six color separation using the color difference. Proposed six color separation using the color difference and granularity reduces the graininess in the bright region and obtains the smooth tone.

  • As the structure of a mobile phone becomes thin to catch up with a slim product trend, the reliability of a LCD module is on the rise as a big issue for a product design. A drop test is the most basic and important verification method for a mechanical quality control but it requires much time and cost during a product development process. Thus many manufacturers have considered design guide lines using CAE and simulation for more effective usage of limited resources on the market. In this paper, the Maximum Principle Stress of a LCD glass panel is calculated on the basis of explicit FE Analyses method and input conditions are determined according to the general test standard. The design guideline for reliability improvements are suggested on the basis of the results of FE Analysis.

  • To assure safe usage of railway rolling stock, it is important to evaluate the strength of the wheel which is core part in bogies. However, conventional standard testing methods using destructive technique could not evaluate mechanical properties of degraded wheels during rolling stock maintenance work. Instrumented indentation test is a new way to evaluate nondestructively the strength of mechanical components by analyzing indentation load-depth curves. In this study, to evaluate tensile strength of the wheel, instrumented indentation test is performed nondestructively according to KS B 0950. Furthermore, test results are examined by tensile test in accordance with KS R 9221.

  • The level of consumer knowledge has been gradually increased with the growth of living standard of consumer and the development of communication technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure and measure of consumer knowledge and to find out relationship between objective knowledge and subjective knowledge. The subjects of this study were female adults from theirs twenties to theirs forties who lived in Seoul, Kyunggi or Incheon areas and Quota sampling method was used age and areas. The data were obtained from 603 questionnaires. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 10 and major statistical methods are mean, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficient. The results are as follows: 1. Objective knowledge consisted of the product knowledge, brand knowledge, purchase knowledge and usage knowledge, and subjective knowledge consisted of experience and self-evaluation knowledge. 2. Consumer knowledge was related to the subjective knowledge and objective knowledge. But, there was relatively a low relationship between subjective knowledge and objective knowledge of apparel.

  • Human Robot Interaction(HRI) through a haptic interface plays an important role in controlling robot systems remotely. The augmented usage of bio-signals in the haptic interface is an emerging research area. To consider operator's state in HRI, we used bio-signals such as ECG and blood pressure in our proposed force reflection interface. The variation of operator's state is checked from the information processing of bio-signals. The statistical standard variation in the R-R intervals and blood pressure were used to adaptively adjust force reflection which is generated from environmental condition. To change the pattern of force reflection according to the state of the human operator is our main idea. A set of experiments show the promising results on our concepts of human adaptive interface.

Structured Representation of Design Information for Gear Drives in XML (XML을 이용한 기어장치 설계정보의 구조적 표현)

  • A methodology is proposed to share the design information of a gear drive using XML (eXtensible Markup Language). XML is the standard language of the next generation and can be used as a neutral and unique format shared by various Web applications. Since XML is a platform-independent meta-markup language, it is possible to reduce the additional programming efforts for Web applications by using the standardization of technical terminologies. In this study, the structure of design information about gears, shafts, keys and bearings in a gear drive has been made and the terminologies used in the gear drive design process have been authored. The XML DTD(Data Type Definition) for the gear drive design has been declared and the usage of the XML application has been shown.
