  • The hydrologic cycle in urban catchment has been changed due to the expansion of impervious area by rapid urban development. In this study, the SWMM 5 (Storm Water Management Model 5) model was used to simulate the hydrologic cycle of the Dorimcheon catchment which suffers from the distorted hydrologic cycle as a typical urban catchment. This study compare continuous simulation of urban runoff combining the channel and sewer system with that of channel only in the Dorimcheon catchment. Continuous simulations of urban runoff were performed for the upstream basin of Dorim bridge. The urban impervious regions were processed by the land use analysis from LANDSAT_TM images. It was performed from 1975 to 2000 for every five years. Surface, groundwater and wastewater runoffs were additionally included in the simulations one at a time. Such simulations made it possible to evaluate those components quantitatively. The result of continuous simulation of urban runoff combining the channel and sewer system is that peak flow and recession are well simulated. The analysis results of urbanization effect on runoff are as follows: the surface runoff in 2000 increases to 64% of the whole precipitation whereas the surface runoff in 1975 amounts to 46% of the precipitation; the groundwater runoff in 2000 amounts to 6% and shows 8% decrease during the period from 1975 to 2000.

  • In the IMT-2000 networks, the model of micro/pico cell is suggested for transmission of multimedia service. Hence, the efficient method is required for processing of mobile calls in micro/pico cell. In the central urban area, mobile calls may be dynamically increased because of many mobile users. And microcel]/picocell size has small size, handover calls will be more increased. Therefore, many of mobile calls is occurred at a cell in the central urban area, so channel requests for these calls will be increased in the call. In this paper, we propose a scheme, FTC(Fault Tolerant Channel allocation) which is the channel management method for hard handover and new call in a mobile cell of central urban area. When available channels in the cell are consumed, the FTC investigates channel states of neighbor cells in the RNC(Radio Network Controller) or BSC (Base Station Center), and provide available channel for mobile call. The ]no scheme is analyzed and compared with existing channel management method by simulation.

  • Full Dimension multiple input multiple output (FD-MIMO) architecture employs a planar array design at the Base Station (BS) to provide high order multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) via simultaneous data transmission to large number of users. With FD-MIMO, the BS can also adjust the beam direction in both elevation and azimuth direction to concentrate the energy on the user of interests while minimizing the interference leakage to co-scheduled users in the same cell or users in the neighboring cells. In a typical highly populated macrocell environment, modelling the elevation angular characteristics of three-dimensional (3D) channel is critical to understanding the performance limits of the FD-MIMO system. In this paper, we study the throughput performance of FD-MIMO system with varying elevation angular spread and inter-element spacing using a 3D spatial channel model. Our results show that for a typical urban scenario, horizontal beamforming with correlated antenna spacing achieves optimal performance but by restricting the spread of elevation angles of departure, elevation beamforming achieves high array gain with wide inter-element spacing. We also realize significant gains due to spatial array processing via modelling the elevation domain and varying the inter-element spacing for both the transmitter and receiver.

  • An urban runoff model is proposed in this study, which is composed of a surface runoff model and a channel routing model. ILLUDAS is selected as the best fit model for the surface runoff computation, and the dynamic wave model using weighted four-point implicit finite difference scheme is used to perform the channel routing. The 3rd Seongbook bridge basin located in Seoul is selected as the test basin for the proposed model, and the rainfall-runoff data are collected to calibrate and verify the urban runoff model. The computed results by this model showed the fair accuracy when compared with the observed hydrographs. So the model proposed in this study could be used to compute the urban river flow as well as the outflow from the urban drainage area.

  • The objectives of this study are to propose a system for combined use of a hydrologic and a hydraulic model for urban flood forecast model and to evaluate the system on the $300km^2$ Jungrang urban watershed area, which is relatively large area as an urban watershed and consequently composed of very complex drainage pipes and streams with different land uses. In this study, SWMM for hydrologic model and HEC-RAS for hydraulic model are used and the study area is divided into 25 subbasins. The SWMM model is used for sewer drainage analysis within each subbasin, while HEC-RAS for unstready flow analysis in the channel streams. Also, this study develops a GUI system composed of mean areal precipitation input component, hydrologic runoff analysis component, stream channel routing component, and graphical representation of model output. The proposed system was calibrated for the model parameters and verified for the model applicability by using the observation data. The correlation coefficients between simulated and observed flows at the 2 important locations were ranged on 0.83-0.98, while the coefficients of model efficiency on 0.60-0.92 for the verification periods. This study also provided the possibilities of manhole overflows and channel bank inundation through the calculated water profile of longitudinal and channel sections, respectively. It can be concluded that the proposed system can be used as a surface runoff and channel routing models for urban flood forecast over the large watershed area.

  • A new channel simulation method for the urban mobile radio communication is proposed based on the Aulin's mathematical model which is suitable for urban areas. The proposed method maintains advantage of Jakes Method which is readily implemented in hardware and simulated well various channel states, and solves the problem that measured power spectrum generated by Jakes method does not agree with practical power spectrum. It has been shown by simulation; that good agreements between measured values generated by the proposed method and theoretical values for autocorrelation, LCR, ADF and power spectrum are obtained and that method can easily produce several independent fading signals.

  • The scheme for the conveyance increasement of urban river is presented in this study. For the use of the lower part of the road paralleled to urban river as a conveyance, the 2-dimensional flood flow between main channel and added conveyance section is analyzed by mathematical model SMS(2-D simulation model). The result of the HEC-RAS(1-D simulation model) is used to calibrate the parameters of SMS. New scheme is applied to the Cheonggeyecheon Restoration Project. The capacity of flood flow between main channel and added conveyance is simulated for 50, 80, 200 year frequency flood and suitable size of pathway is proposed.

  • This paper investigates the flow field and organism concentration in a UV disinfection channel in which vertical ultraviolet lamps are arranged in a staggered configuration. Turbulence is described by low Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model, respectively. P-1 method has been employed to solve the radiative transfer equation. The obtained incident radiation is used to compute the inactivation term in the species equation. The CFD results are in good agreement with the existing experimental data for the UV channel. For the flow field, the low-Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model is superior to the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model. The approach velocity has a significant effect on the disinfection efficiency. The organism concentration at the outlet decreases fast to a low inlet velocity.

  • Wireless communication is a telecommunication technology, which enables wireless transmission between the portable devices to provide wireless access in all types of environments. In this research, the measurements and various empirical models are analysed and compared in order to find out a suitable propagation model to provide guidelines for cell planning of wireless communication systems. The measured data was taken in urban region with low vegetation and some trees at 900 MHz frequency band. Path loss models are useful planning tools, which permit the designers of cellular communication to obtain optimal levels for the base station deployment and meeting the expected service level requirements. Outcomes show that these empirical models tend to overestimate the propagation loss. As one of the key outputs, it was observed that the calculations of Weissberger model fit with the measured data in urban environment.

  • In this paper, the performance of DS-CDMA system with smart antenna is analyzed for different bandwidths (1.25MHz, 5MHz) and different channel environments (rural, urban). For the analysis of smart antenna system, the vector channel model having the spatio-temporal correlation is needed. Hence, the channel is modeled as a time-variant linear filter in time, and each multipath is assumed as a reflective wave from only one direction (only one cluster) in space. A simulation is carried out by dividing several multipaths within one chip into each one and searching the strongest signal. DS-CDMA system with smart antenna using wider bandwidth present better performance than that using narrow bandwidth. It is shown that the smart antenna is more effective in urban area when using 2D-RAKE receiver.
