  • This study was conducted to reproduce the two-piece sleeve pattern of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's for Korean women of the twenties who have the standard body type and the average size. Fourteen two-piece sleeve patterns of the ladies 'jacket of the 1890's were collected and drawn to actual size. The length and width proportion of the upper-sleeve and under-sleeve pattern of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's were similar to the two-piece sleeve pattern of jacket which we see now. The elbow line of the two-piece sleeve pattern of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's was lower than the two-piece sleeve of jacket of today. The cap of the sleeve of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's was gathered and this gave volume to the upper part of sleeve but the lower part of the sleeve was tight. The study pattern of two-piece sleeve pattern which had the characteristics of the sleeve pattern of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's was designed like for Korean women of the twenties who have the standard body type and the average size through modifications based on the evaluation of dressing on two occasions. The study pattern was evaluated to have the silhouette of the sleeve of the ladies' jacket of the 1890's and to fit Korean women of the twenties who have the standard body type and the average size with the sensory test.

  • This study was done to analyze the surface development of upper arm for planning sleeve armhole line. The major conclusions of this study are: 1. The surface development by arm movements made the expansion and contraction of upper arm surface changes easily visible. Armhole lines of 90$^{\circ}$and 135$^{\circ}$~180$^{\circ}$movements deviated from those of standard posture. 2. According to regression analysis, armhole lines on the upper arm were adapted to sleeve patten, following the axillary circumference line changed to biceps line. Sleeve cap length ranged from armhole/4+2.5cm to armhole/4$\pm$0.5cm. 3. Compared to Rim's pattern method, ascending and descending amounts of armhole lines were represented as fixed values.

  • The zone of expansion and contraction of arm surfaces was analyzed, the correlation between arm surface changes was studied, and ergonomic sleeve designs were presented in which the consideration of body surface changes is emphasized. Experiments were carried out which include 43 upper extremity segments, 21 motions and 35 female subjects. The major conclusions of the study are as follows : 1. As a sleeve drafting method, detailed measures should be applied on the base of the sensitivity of body surface changes. The range of arm surface changes can be divided into three zones : concentrated expansion zone, zone of little change, and contraction part. The maximum expansion zone was the upper part of elbow. 2. The correlations were higher in lengths than in circumferences. Arm lengths were mainly correlated with upper arms. The more detailed the arm surface was, the lower the correlations between surface changes were. So there was not a lot of relation between segment changes. Tendency of body surface changes depended on the anatomical structure of the upper extremity and the movements of arm muscles. 3. As an application of measures and ease, ergonomic sleeve designs weve presented in which arm surface changes were considered. Ergonomic sleeve designs are recommended for working clothes and sports wear.

  • Bronchoplastic and angioplastic operation in lung surgery is appropriate treatment for a wide range of benign endobronchial lesions and low grade malignancies. Between March 1990 to February 1994, four patients underwent bronchial sleeve resection and one patient received left upper lobe lobectomy with pulmonary artery angioplasty. Types of disease includes two cases of endobronchial tuberculosis and three cases of lung cancer. The main operation performed are one pneumonectomy, two right upper lobectomy and one each of left upper lobectomy and left lower lobectomy. All cases received sleeve resection not due to decreased respiratory reserve but due to anatomic suitability. One patient who received pneumonectomy had postoperative complication of empyema thoracis.

  • A clothing-erogonomics study was performed to investigate the difference of the upper arm skin skin surface and the relationship among the three aspects of upper arm (height of sleeve rap, sleeve width and armhole girth) by changing arm movements. Plaster cast was used for this experimental research. Arm movements consist of 9 types; just carmly standing on ($0^{\circ}$), and each 4 types ($45^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ},\;180^{\circ}$) to the vertical direction in front and in side. The results were as follows; 1) As the arm-movement angle increased, the height of sleeve cap decreased and that ratio was largest in the portion A-B3. 2) The steeve width was enlarged with the increment of movement angle in all portions of upper arm except B1-B5. 3) As increasing the movement angle, the whole armhole girth decreased and the ratio o(front armhole girth (F-A) was larger than that of back. 4) In the vertical direction in front, the height o( the sleeve caps was larger, the sleeve widths were smaller than in the vertical direction in side in all movement types, but there was no significant difference in arm-hole girth between the two cases. 5) There were significantly negative relationships between measurements in height of sleeve cap and those in sleeve width, and also between those in height of sleeve cap and in arm-hole girth. And significantly positive relationships were found between neasurements in height of sleeve cap and those in arm-hole girth.

  • This study aimes to investigate the garment ease of pe-school children's clothing in accordance with arm movement. The experiment was done with 4 per-school children fro mage 3 to age 5, and 3 types of experimental clothes were made ; sleeveless, half sleeve, and long sleeve. The waist pattern and the sleeve pattern of each experimental clothes has no garment ease. And experimental clothes were examined to obtain the necessary ease of armcye line and waist lien by cross-cut method. The results of investigation can be summarized as follows ; 1. The resulting movement ranges of experimental clothes with no garment ease were 131.5°(sleeveless), 71.75°(half sleeve), and 62.25°(long sleeve). 2. The size order of cross-cut opening of waist lien movement were (side>front>back), and (half sleeve>long sleeve>sleeveless). 3. When the base point of measurement was set to armpit point by arm the latitudinal length of cross-cut opening of armcye line by arm movement was (anterior armpit part > posterior armpit part), and longitudinal length of cross-cut opening was (upper part>lower part).

  • Sleeve lobectomy for bronchogenic carcinoma is an alternative to pneumonectomy. The extent and location of the tumor must be such that a sleeve procedure is feasible. The conservation of lung tissue benefits both compromised and uncompromised patients. From August 1988 to March 1989, five patients underwent sleeve lobectomy for bronchogenic carcinoma of the lung. The patients included four males and one female ranging in age from 52 years to 66 years. All patients were diagnosed as having squamous cell carcinoma. Operative procedures were right upper sleeve lobectomy in four cases and left upper sleeve lobectomy with pulmonary angioplasty in one case. Complications developed in one patient. An asthmatic attack necessitated ventilator support for one day. Bronchoscopic examinations were performed at two weeks and three months postoperatively in four patients. Anastomosis sites on all patients were intact, but in one case, nodules were noted. Pulmonary function tests were also checked at three months postoperatively, and showed good results. The reimplanted lobe or lobes contribute significantly to the overall remaining lung function. All patients are being followed up with satisfactory results, except one case of suspected local tumor recurrence. We think, therefore, that sleeve lobectomy is a safe and adequate procedure for patients with resectable lung cancer.

  • Sleeve resection is safe, effective, and appropriate treatment for a wide range of endo-bronchial lesions including neoplasms of low grade malignant potential and selected cases of bronchogenic carcinoma. Five cases of bronchoplastic procedures were performed for primary bronchogenic carcinoma patients at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Chonbuk National University Hospital from Aug. 1983 to Oct. 1987. Of the 5 patients, four were male and one patient was female and ages ranged from 51 years to 66 years old. Histopathologically, 4 cases were squamous cell carcinoma and one case small cell carcinoma. Operative procedures of the 5 patients were as follows: Right upper sleeve lobectomy, 1 case; Left upper sleeve lobectomy, 1 case; left lower sleeve lobectomy, 1 case; Left lower lobe and lingular segment sleeve resection, 2 cases. The early and late postoperative complications of the above operations were pneumonia, atelectasis, bronchopleural fistula, empyema, brain metastasis, and local recurrence of primary tumor.

  • This study is concerned with the functional utility of movement in sleeve from an ergonomic viewpoint. Experiments were carried out which include 43 upper extremity segments, 21 motions and 35 female subjects. The major conclusions of the study are. 1. The expansion rate of upper extremity was higher in length than in circumference mesurements. The amounts of expansion were, especially high (more than 60mm) for inner arm length, axillary arm circumference, and outer arm length. Therefore, a lot of ease is necessary for these parts. On the other hand, armhole circumference, forearm circumference, and wrist circumference had low rates of expansion. The sleeve cap length was also contracted in all motions. 2. The expansion rate and the range of expansion and contraction were higher in the upper arm than in the forearm. The main points of expansion were the axillary and elbow parts. The segment of maximum expansi (rate of 44.8%) was Iii of axillary parts. As the body surface expands mainly in some segments, it is desirable to allow ease to the main segments of expansion. 3. In a basic sleeve, necessary ease was lacking in the measurements for outer arm length and axillary arm circumference, while it was too large in armhole circumference, forearm circumference, wrist circumference, and sleeve cap length. Therefore, a basic sleeve is inadequate as a functional sleeve for hard work in point of functional utility of movement. Wider application of these findings would lead to an improvement in the comfort of workers.

  • A sleeve lobectomy is an appropriate operative procedure in patients with endobronchial neoplasms of low-grade malignancies in the proximal airways and for a small but significant number of patients with carcinoma. Here, we present eleven cases of sleeve lobectomy which were performed from 1984 to the August of 1991 in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Seoul National University Hospital. The sex distribution was 6 males and 5 females in the age range from twenty to sixty seven, with an average of 44.9 years. The pathologic diagnoses were 7 cases of pulmonary malignancies: carcinoid in two, mucoepidermoid carcinoma in two, adenoid cystic carcinoma in one, adenocarcinoma in one, and squamous carcinoma in one. Other diagnoses were two cases of tuberculous bronchial strictures and two cases of benign tumors: one case of pesudolymphoma and one case of neurilemmoma. The procedures consisted of five right upper sleeve lobectomies [Fig. 1], four left upper sleeve lovectomies [Fig. 2], one left lower sleeve lobectomy[Fig. 3], and one right middle and lower lobetomy [Fig. 4]. All except one had a normal preoperative pulmonary function. The case which had a poor pulmonary function was a 66-year-old female adenocarcinoma patient. She seemed to be very intolerable to pneumonectomy [predicted FEV1=0.60L]. Therefore, she had a right sleeve upper lobectomy and experienced smooth postoperative course without any pulmonary problems. All cases had good postoperative results and no postoperative complications.
