  • The neutral zone technique is an alternative approach for the construction of complete dentures on highly atrophic ridges with history of denture instability. This technique achieves two objectives. First, the teeth will not interfere with the normal muscle function, and second, the force exerted by the musculature against the denture is more favorable for stability and retention. In this case of a 78-years-old female patient with severely atrophic ridges who had been using unstable complete dentures, the neutral zone impression technique was used to increase the stability and the retention of dentures. The neutral zone for both arch was located with modeling compound. After the arrangement of artificial teeth within the neutral zone, the external impression was taken to determine the tissue surface. The final dentures showed enhanced stability and retention and the patient was satisfied with the new dentures with respect to functional and esthetic aspects.

  • From measured responses of concrete three-point bend tests, the average values of the responses have been calculated. The fracture behavior of continuously propagating concrete crack has been analyzed from the average responses. The experimental parameters of this study were the initial notch sizes of 25.4㎜ and 6.4 ㎜ and the processing times of 2,000 sec. and 20 sec . The different notch sizes were used for the effects of the size of fracture process zone and specimen geometry, and the processing times for those of initial creep. However the load-point displacement rate in this study did not affect the experimental responses seriously. The average loads were calculated from the average external work of a series of tests, and average crack lengths were determined by using strain gages. Before the peak load, the resistance curve could be determined from the size of fracture process zone, but unstable crack propagation of 88㎜ occurred at the load-point displacement of 0.088∼0.154㎜ after the peak load. The average fracture energy density G$\_$F/$\^$ave/ = 115 N/m occurred during the unstable crack propagation. The fracture process zones were fully developed at the crack length of 111㎜, and the sizes of fracture process zone for initial notches of 25.4㎜ and 6.4㎜ were 86㎜ and 105㎜, respectively. Average fracture energy densities of the resistance curves after full development of fracture process zone were 229 N/m for the initial notch of 25.4㎜ and 284 N/m for 6.4㎜. The values were more than twice of G$\_$F/$\^$ave/.

  • Today travel demand continues to increase with spread of economic zones. Also, urban freeway plays an important role in intra-zone transportations as a major corridor in a big city. However, most of urban freeways experience a severe congestion with the excess of inflowing or outflowing traffic through freeway ramps. The purpose of this study is to identify the traffic characteristics, analyze the relationships between the traffic characteristics and finally construct the speed predictive models on the ramp junctions of urban freeway under the intelligent transportation system(ITS) settings. From the analyses of traffic characteristics following results were obtained: ⅰ) 24 hours average traffic characteristics flow, occupancy, speed under the ITS settings showed about 40%, 38%, 8.8% increase each on urban freeway junctions period when compared with that under the non-ITS settings each other. Free flow speed and traffic flow on the mainline sections of urban freeway under the ITS settings also showed about 20% and 17% increase when compared with that under the non-ITS, respectively. ⅱ) The upstream when compared speed( $S_{u}$)and downstream occupancy( $O_{d}$) were especially shown to have higher explanatory powers on the stable flow ramp junctions, but the upstream speed( $S_{u}$) and downstream flow( $V_{d}$) were especially shown on the unstable flow ramp junctions of urban freeway under the ITS settings.ngs.ngs.

  • The goal of this study is to find flame dynamic behavior using a transverse fuel injection in a model combustor, and is to investigate main causes of unstable combustion in a liquid-fueled combustor. For transverse fuel injection into air cross flow, spray result shows similar tendency with Wu et al.[1998] until spray arrives at flame-holder. However, passing through flame-holder, fuel inflow into recirculation region of flameholder is not sufficient so it makes large difference between shear flame and recirculation flame behind flameholder. In combustion tests, the stable flame shows a kind of shear flames and low peaks of dynamic pressure frequencies. On the other hand, unstable flame shows periodic detached flame in recirculation zone and a strong peak of dynamic pressure frequency. The instability frequency is highly affected by influx air velocity, air temperature, equivalence ratio and wake or vortex shedding frequency behind the flameholder.

  • The subsurface environment of the root zone area can set the stae for "do or die" of the turfgrass plant. The good condition of the greens is verified by their physical properties. Therefore, this study was carried to evaluate on the existing green of Hwasan C.C. by undisturbed soil Core Anaysis. We completed the ISTRC SYSTEM BenchMarking of the undisturbed core samples taken from Green #1, Green #5, Green #9-"Best" area, and Green #9-"Stressed" area for the Hwasan C.C.. It was also our understanding that the greens were in "good" to "very good" conditioni. THe exception might be Green #9-"Stress" area, which was the stressed area. The stressed area was confined to a ridge across Green #9. The organic content test results comfirmed the development of organic layering in depth 0-2.5cm. For the amount of compaction in the upper root zones and te development of the green's respective organic layers, the infiltration rates were high in Green #1, Green #5, and Green #9 "Stressed" area. The depicted aerificaton hole might be the probable cause of the relatively high infiltraton rate. Green #9-"Best" area had a tested infiltration rate of 18.75cm/hr. Either this area had not been aerified, or the undisturbed sample did not contain a aerification cavity. The water retention capacity of the undisturbed samples was good. When the greens were first constructed, the original root zone mix had been relatively low water retention properties. And the bulk density and the porosity of the undisturbed samples were good. In the result, all the greens were similar except for the infiltration. Thus, we supposed that Green #9-"Stressed" area might be ainly influenced by the amount of irrigation water and the configuration of the green's surface. There had been a reduction in the amount of irrigation water as the water retention capacity in the greens was promoted. Especially, it had gradually become more of a problem as the green had matured in Green #9-"Stressed" area. Because Green #9-"Stressed" area was a ridge area. The reduction in the amount of irrigation water might be the probable cause of the stress in Green #9-"Stressed" area. Our final observation related to the soil texture and the particle size distribution of the sand. Though and sand contant of all the tested greens were good, the gravel content of them exceeded ISTRC Guidelines. In particle size distribution of the sand, the very coarse and the coarse content of all the tested greens exceeded, but the rest was insufficient. The stability is a function of the material retained on the 0.25mm mesh screen. But, the content of all the tested greens was very insufficient. Though all the greens was serviceable, the coarse root zone sands, such as the sand in the tested greens, tended to be "unstable". Thus, we recommend using a topdressing/aerification sand which should be more in line with ISTRC/USGA Guidelines.;unstable". Thus, we recommend using a topdressing/aerification sand which should be more in line with ISTRC/USGA Guidelines.ines.

  • The structure of frontal thunderstorm in winter time is different from that of in summer time over the Korean peninsula, due to dry tongue and upward motion. The dry tongue, that is propagation of dry zone from upper level to lower level, was formed after front passage and the upward motion is intensified by the strengthened low level jet. Since this mechanism makes the structure more unstable, thunderstorm occurs at relatively low cloud top height. This study suggests a forecast guidance of winter time frontal thunderstorm that thunderstorms develop when one of the following conditions are satisfied: 1) total totals (TT) >40, 2) K index >-10, 3) mixing ratio ${\geq}$ 3.5 g/kg.

  • The frequency of earthquake occurrence tends to increase in Korea. Therefore, the stability of pipeline, such as watersupply pipe, gas pipe, and oil pipe etc. across fault zones in Gyoung-sang landmass is very important, expecially , in metropolitan area. There were some examples of the construction of buried pipeline across fault zones in Korea. the interactiion between the buried pipeline across fault zones and the ground is considered. As well, in the interfaces of them, the direct shear numerical analysis model including elasto-plastic joint element is assumed that the retained dilatancy theory in them, otherwise. Also, the other elements are modeled the ground is nonlinear elastic coutinuaus beam, respectively. In this study, the maximum shear force point exist inside retaine zone(anchored zone) during shwar (as fault sliding), and the distribution of pipeline's behavior is all alike them of pipeline buried in ladnsliding grounds. Since the pipeline is not continuous beam but jointed by steel-pipe segments , practically, on acting of a large bending moment or a shear force, then, those are may be unstable. The reaearch on this point may be new approach.

  • The number of pixel defects including bright and black dots on a panel is one of the critical factors determining the quality of TFT-LCD. Since pixel defects on the TFT-LCD panels are sometimes unavoidable, manufacturers have to inspect the panels so that any panel with an unacceptable number of defects will not be delivered to the buyers. However, the buyers demand for the manufacturers to meet different pixel defects tolerances (acceptable number of pixel defects on a TFT-LCD panel) around central(tight) and peripheral(loose) inspection zones. The disagreement in quality standard among different buyers also cause confusions in screening non-confirmative products and unstable yield of production. Few research has focused on the effects of defect locations on a TFT-LCD panel on their detection probabilities and the rational division of defect inspection zones. In this research, experiments were conducted to find the detection probabilities of black dot defects with respect to their varying locations on a TFT-LCD. It is proposed a rational division of inspection zone on a TFT-LCD panel on the basis of detection probabilities of the defects. With these division of inspection zones and the mean defect detection probability within each zone, it is expected to establish a more reasonable pixel defects tolerances.

  • The temperature and soot particle measurement technique in a laminar diffusion flame has been studied to investigate the characteristics of soot particle with temperature using a co-flow burner. The temperature distribution in the flame were measured by rapid insertion of a R-type thermocouple and the soot particles by LEM/LIS techniques. In these measurement, soot volume fraction, number density and soot diameters were analyzed experimentally. As a results, the spacial distributions of particle volume fraction, soot diameter, and number density are mapped throughout the flame using the Rayleigh theory for the scattering of light by particles. A laser extinction method was used to measure the soot volume fraction and laser induced scattering method was used to measure the soot particle diameter and number density. Also, we measured temperature without the effect of soot particles attached to the thermocouple junction, which is close to the nozzle. In this result, we found that upstream zone has a unstable flowing in co-flow diffusion flame and the y-axis temperature of flame has a uniform temperature distribution in the most soot volume fraction zone.
