The effect of $Ba^{+2}$ shortage on microwave dielectric characteristics of $Ba_{1-x}$ $(Z $n_{1/3}$T $a_{2/3}$ $O_3$ ceramics (B $a^{+2}$의 결핍에 따른 Ba(Z $n_{1/3}$T $a_{2/3}$ $O_3$ 세라믹스의 고주파 유전특성에 관한 연구)

  • Dielectric and structural properties of $Ba_{1-x}$(Z $n_{1}$3/T $a_{2}$3/) $O_{3}$+1 mol% Mn $O_{2}$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04) ceramics was investigated at microwave frequencies. With $Ba_{+2}$ shortage, the sinterability and the unloaded Q( $Q_{u}$) were much improved, and the ordering in B site and the lattice distortion was greatly enhanced and the structure approached the completely ordered structure. $Q_{u}$ was strongly correlated with these factors such as ordering ratio, lattice distortion and sinterability, and had the maximum value of 7500 at x=0.01. The dielectric constant was near 30 and the temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency was 2 ppm/.deg. C at x=0.01.1.1.1.

  • Measurements of surface resistance ($R_s$) of high temperature superconductor (HTS) films with accuracy are essential for microwave applications of HTS materials. In using the dielectric resonator method, uncertainties in the unloaded quality factor of the resonator cause significant errors in the measured $R_s$ of HTS films. We compare the Rs values of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ films calculated from the $Q_0$ as determined from the Lorentzian fit with that from the $Q_0$ as determined from the S-parameter circle-fit at temperatures between 15 K and 77 K. The two sets of values appeared to differ by 5%, 7%, 6%, and 11% at temperatures of 15, 60, 70, and 77 K, respectively, from each other, implying that careful error analysis needs to be performed in obtaining the $R_s$ of HTS films by using the Lorentzian-fit method, with the ones determined from the S-parameter circle-fit used as the reference.

  • A theoretical analysis and measurement technique to determine the complex permittivity and permeability of cylindrical and ring type dielectric resonators is given. The resonant frequency, unloaded quality factor and physical dimensions of dielectric resonator placed between two parallel conducting plates are used to evaluate the complex permittivity and permeability. This process is repeated for other higher-order modes to expand the evaluation at higher resonant frequencies. The nature of each mode is identified by measuring the variations of field strength along the azimuthal and longitudinal direction. An error analysis taking into account various error sources reveals that $TE_{0np}$ or quasi-TE modes yield the least amount of measurement error, which is less than $0.5{\%}$for the real part, $4{\%}$for the imaginary part of complex permittivity.

  • The resonant frequency fo and unloaded quality factor Qu of CoTi-substituted Barium ferrites($\textrm{BaCo}_{x}\textrm{Ti}_{x}\textrm{Fe}_{12-2x}\textrm{O}_{19}$, $1.0\leq\textrm{x}\leq5.0$) were measured at frequencies between 5 to 10GHz using the paralleled copper-plate wave guide method. The measurements showed that the permittivities of CoTi-substituted Barium ferrites(CoTi-BF) increased from 14.7 to 23.4 with the contents of CoTi, x, and the loss tangents had values of $\textrm{10}^{-3}$ order. From these results, CoTi-BF are considered to be very promising materials in microwave devices such as dielctric resonator antennas.

  • In this study. the microwave dielectric properties, such at dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_{\gamma}$), unloaded quality factor multiplied with resonant frequency($Q_{u}$.f), and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_{f}$), were investigated for the low-temperature sintered (Pb, Ca)$ZrO_3$ with $V_2O_{5}$ additives as well as structural properties. As a result, (Pb,Ca)ZrO$_3$ with 0.2 wt% $V_2O_{5}$ additive, sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$, showed good properties like ${\varepsilon}_{\gamma}$ 109, $Q_{u}$.f 2736 GHz, and ${\tau}_{f}$ -2.94 ppm/$^{\circ}C$. Especially ${\tau}_{f}$ was much better than ($Pb_{0.63}Ca_{0.37}$)$ZrO_3$ of which ${\tau}_{f}$ was known to be + 13.4 ppm/$^{\circ}C$, so it seems to be applicated in micorowave device components.

Development of Solenoid RF Coil for Animal Imaging in 3T High Magnetic Field MRI (고자장 3T MRI 장비에서 동물영상을 위한 솔레노이드 RF코일 개발)

  • Purpose : The purpose of the present study was to develop and optimize solenoid coil for animal- model in 3 T MRI system and investigate and compare with the birdcage coil concerning the image quality with the various parameters such as SNR and Q-factor. Materials and Methods : Solenoid coil for animal-model was made on the acryl structure (diameter 4 cm, length 10 cm) 3 times-winding cooper tape of width 2 cm, thickness 0.05 cm and length 10 cm with 2 cm interval between winded tapes. Capacitors from 2 pF to 100 pF were used, and the solenoid coil was designed for receiver only coil. Results : SNR of the developed solenoid was 985 in CuSO4 0.7 g/L and 995 in rat experiment. Q-factor was 84-89 in unloaded condition and 203-206 in loaded condition. Conclusion : The resolution of the image obtained from solenoid was relatively higher than that of the conventional birdcage coil. In addition, the homogeneity of RF field by coil simulation was significantly excellent. The present study demonstrated that the solenoid coil could be useful to obtain small animal images with better contrast, resolution, visibility than images from birdcage.
