전기장판 외피 및 부자재의 난연성에 관한 실험연구 (A Experimental Study on the Flame Retardant for Cover and Material of Electric Pad)

  • 본 논문은 전기장판에 사용되는 외피 및 부직포 등의 부자재에 대하여 UL 94 등의 난연성 시험방법에 따라 실험을 수행하고 난연성을 분석한 연구이다. 전기장판의 난연성을 분석하기 위하여 전기장판의 종류를 두께가 두꺼운 전기매트, 외피가 PVC 등으로 구성된 비닐전기장판, 외피가 천으로 구성된 전기요로 구분하여 전기장판에 사용되는 외피 및 부직포 등에 대하여 난연실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 전기장판에 사용되는 외피 및 부직포 등의 부자재는 난연성능이 없는 것으로 나타났다.

Spectrophotofluorometric analysis of 2-[[3-(Trifluoromethyl) pheny 1] amino]-3-pyridine carboxylic acid in urine

  • A sensitive spectrophotofluorometric method was developed for the analysis of 2[[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]amino]-3-phridine carboxylic acid (I) in urine. The method is based on the fluoroscence behavior of the I-aluminum complex in absolute ethanol. This fluorophore has activation and emission wavelengths of 355 and 450 nm, respectively. Optimum conditions for the reaction were investigated. The fluorescence was linear in the range of 0.25 3.0 ug of I/ml. Replicate studies of spiked urine samples, each containing 2.5 ug of I/ml showed good precision with a relative standard deviation of 0.019. Overall recovery percent from five spiked urine samples was 99.4 $\pm$1.32%.

농약 이화학시험 분석기관의 숙련도시험을 통한 정도관리체계 확립 연구 (Establishment of National Quality Control System for Analytical Laboratory of Pesticide Products by Proficiency Testing)

  • 숙련도시험 수행 및 분석법확립은 분석기관의 지속적인 시험결과에 대한 신뢰성 확보 및 시험기관의 분석능력 관리를 위한 정도관리 체계에 포함되는 항목이다. Emamectin benzoate 및 lufenuron 유제 시료에 대한 분석법 검증, 안정성 및 균질성을 확인한 후, 농약 이화학시험 분석기관(33개 기관)을 대상으로 두 약제에 대한 시료를 배포하여 숙련도시험을 수행하였으며, 분석기관의 수행능력을 z값으로 평가하였다. Emamectin benzoate는 참여기관 총 33개 중 이상값은 2개 기관(6.0%), z값이 |Z| > 3.0 및 |Z| < -3.0 범위을 나타내는 부적합은 2개 기관(6.0%) 및 z값이 -2.0 < |Z| -3.0 및 2.0 < |Z| < 3.0 범위인 검토대상은 3기관(9.0%)이었고, lufenuron에 대한 z값의 범위가 검토대상인 기관은 3개(9.0%)였다. 본 연구는 국내 농약 이화학시험 분석기관에 적합한 정도관리 체계 마련을 위하여 숙련도 시험의 적용가능성을 확인하였으며, 추가적으로 다양한 농약제품에 대한 숙련도시험을 수행하여 보완이 필요하다.

임상검체로부터 분리한 플라스미드 매개성 SHV-11 β-lactamase 유전자의 특성 (Characterization of Plasmid-Mediated SHV-11 β-lactamase Gene of Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from the Clinical Specimens)

  • Chromosomal 인 SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase가 plasmid를 매개로 다른 균주로 전달 되는 현상은 흔하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 플라스미드성 SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase를 동시에 가지고 있는 ESBL생성 두 균주를 검출하였다. 따라서 이들 균주에 대한 유전적 특성과 임상적 의의에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. Vitek system과 이중디스크확산법을 이용하여 ESBL생성균주를 검출하였고, PCR과 DNA 염기서열분석을 이용하여 SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase를 가지고 있는 ESBL생성균주를 확인 하였다. 이들 균주를 교차접합실험과 형질전환실험을 이용하여 유전자전이를 확인하고 액체배지 희석법으로 3세대 cephalosphorin 항생제에 대한 최소억제농도를 측정하였다. 이들 균주의 유전형 분석결과는 SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase 유전자와 CTX-M-15 ESBL 유전자를 동시에 가지고 있었다. 3세대 cephalosphorin 항생제에 대한 최소억제농도는 SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase와 CTX-M-15 ESBL 유전자를 동시에 가지고 있는 균주에서 $64{\mu}g/ml$ 이상이었고, SHV-11 $\beta$-lactamase 만을 가지고 재조합 한 균주에서 $0.5{\mu}g/ml$ 이하로 나타났다.

Simultaneous quantitative analysis of salivary cortisol and cortisone in Korean adults using LC-MS/MS

  • The levels of salivary cortisol and cortisone in Korean adults were measured for the first time using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The salivary cortisol and cortisone were separated within 10 min. The regression coefficients (r) of the calibration curves were greater than 0.999 for the two steroids. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) were 0.2 ng/ml for cortisol and 1 ng/ml for cortisone. The intra-day precisions of the assay were <3.9% and 8.6% for cortisol and cortisone respectively, and the inter-day precisions were <1.9% and 4.3% for cortisol and cortisone, respectively. The salivary cortisone concentrations were approximately 4-9 times higher than those of salivary cortisol during the daytime. Diurnal rhythms, during which the cortisol and cortisone concentrations were higher in the morning than in the afternoon, were also observed. The present assay may be useful for the diagnosis of several adrenal dysfunctions in clinical biochemistry.

Potential Zoonotic Trematodes Recovered in Stray Cats from Kuwait Municipality, Kuwait

  • Stray cats are a common feature roaming the streets and alleys of Kuwait; they could be a source of parasites, including trematodes, that affect humans. A survey was conducted to identify feline trematodes and throw the light on their public health significance in Kuwait. Out of 240 stray cats trapped from different localities of Kuwait from June 2011 to May 2012, 59 (24.6%) were found to be infected with 14 species of trematodes. The most common were trematodes of the genus Heterophyes, particularly H. heterophyes and H. dispar that were found in respectively 15.8% and 10.8% of the cats examined. Other trematodes recorded, with lower prevalences, were Heterophyes nocens (2.9%), Haplorchis taichui (3.8%), Stictodora sawakinensis (2.1%), Stellantchasmus falcatus (1.6%), Echinochasmus japonicus (1.6%), and Mesostephanus dottrensi (1.3%). Centrocestus cuspidatus, Galactosomum fregatae, Ascocotyle sp., Mesostephanus appendiculatus, Haplorchis yokogawai, and Pygidiopsis genata showed the lowest prevalence (0.4%) and intensity. The majority of the trematodes are recorded for the first time in Kuwait and even in the Gulf region. The study reveals that stray cats are good indicators of fish-borne trematodes in the environment. As all trematodes recovered are zoonotic, their significance to public health should be considred.

조선 및 해양플랜트 구조물의 불안전 파괴방지 설계기술 (Design for avoid unstable fracture in shipbuilding and offshore plant structure)

  • Recently, there have been the increase of ship size and the development of oil and gas in arctic region. These trends have led to the requirements such as high strength, good toughness at low temperature and good weldability for prevent of brittle fracture at service temperature. There has been the key issue of crack arrestability in large size structure such as container ship. In this report for the first time, crack arrest toughness of thick steel plate welds was evaluated by large scale ESSO test for estimate of brittle crack arrestability in thick steel plate. For large structures using thick steel plates, fracture toughness of welded joint is an important factor to obtain structural integrity. In general, there are two kinds of design concepts based on fracture toughness: crack initiation and crack arrest. So far, when steel structures such as buildings, bridges and ships were manufactured using thick steel plates (max. 80~100mm in thickness), they had to be designed in order to avoid crack initiation, especially in welded joint. However, crack arrest design has been considered as a second line of defense and applied to limited industries like pipelines and nuclear power plants. Although welded joint is the weakest part to brittle fracture, there are few results to investigate crack arrest toughness of welded joint. In this study, brittle crack arrest designs were developed for hatch side coaming of large container ships using arrest weld, hole, and insert technology.

화학물질 사용 실험실의 안전관리 실태와 인식도 (Actual Condition and Realization of Important on Laboratory Safety Management in Chemical Laboratories)

  • 연구개발 활동의 다양화와 융합화에 따라 실험실에서 다양한 종류의 화학물질의 취급 사용과 함께 실험실의 수행업무도 복잡 다양해져 잠재위험이 크다. 또한, 실험조건이 극한의 온도와 압력 하에서 수행되는 경우가 많아 화재폭발 사고 등으로 인명 피해가 발생하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대학과 연구기관의 실험실에서 화학물질 사용현황과 특성을 파악하여 실험종사자들의 안전성 확보를 위한 조사 도구로서 실험실 설문지를 개발하였다. 개발된 설문지를 이용하여 연구기관과 대학을 대상으로 전자우편과 방문조사로 화학물질 사용량과 폐기량 및 실험실 환경에 대한 인식도 조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 설문지 자료는 엑셀로 빈도 분석을 하여 실험실 사고예방 대책수립을 위한 기초 자료로 활용하고자 한다.

Synthesis of New VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) Complexes with Isatin-3-Chloro-4-Floroaniline and 2-Pyridinecarboxylidene-4-Aminoantipyrine and their Antimicrobial Studies

  • The complexes of tailor made ligands with life essential metal ions may be an emerging area to answer the problems of multi drug resistance. The coordination complexes of VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with the Schiff bases derived from isatin with 3-chloro-4-floroaniline and 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde with 4-aminoantipyrine have been synthesized by conventional as well as microwave methods. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, electronic spectra, FT-IR, FAB mass and magnetic susceptibility measurements. FAB mass data show degradation of complexes. Both the ligands behave as bidentate and tridentate coordinating through O and N donor. The complexes exhibit coordination number 4, 5 or 6. The Schiff base and metal complexes show a good activity against the bacteria; $Staphylococcus$ $aureus$, $Escherichia$ $coli$ and $Streptococcus$ $fecalis$ and fungi $Aspergillus$ $niger$, $Trichoderma$ $polysporum$, $Candida$ $albicans$ and $Aspergillus$ $flavus$. The antimicrobial results also indicate that the metal complexes are better antimicrobial agents as compared to the Schiff bases. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the metal complexes were found in the range 10-40 ${\mu}g/mL$.

Malaria Prevalence in a Low Transmission Area, Jazan District of Southwestern Saudi Arabia

  • Detailed description of malaria in low transmission areas is crucial for elimination. The current study aimed to provide a comprehensive description for malaria transmission in Jazan, a low transmission district, southwestern Saudi Arabia. Patients at a tertiary care hospital were recruited in our study between August 2016 and September 2018. Malaria diagnosis was performed through a species-specific nested polymerase chain reaction (nested PCR), microscopy and Paramax-$3^{TM}$ rapid detection test (RDT). Malaria was detected in 30 patients by the PCR, with point prevalence of 10.9%. Of these malaria infections, 80% was imported, 26.6% was asymptomatic and 23.3% was sub-microscopic. Malaria was reported throughout the year, with February/March and September/October peaks. Infection was significantly more in males than in females (P=0.01). Likewise, infections were detected more in febrile than in non-febrile patients (P=0.01). Adult aged 15-24 years, fever and travel were identified as high-risk factors. Malaria was primarily attributed to Plasmodium falciparum mono-infections, followed by P. vivax mono-infections and lastly to falciparum/vivax mixed infections accounting 76.6%, 16.6%, and 6.6% of PCR-confirmed malaria cases, respectively. The nested PCR was superior to the smear microscopy (sensitivity 76.6%; specificity 100%) and the RDT (sensitivity 83.3%, specificity 94.2%). The overall percent agreement between microscopy and the RDT was 92.7% (kappa=0.63). High proportion of imported malaria including sub-microscopic and sub-patent cases were described. We suggest that incorporation of molecular tool into the conventional malaria diagnosis is beneficial in Jazan district.
