Loess soils are unsaturated and widely distributed in the northwest zone in China. Many steep slope of unsaturated are observed are observed to be naturally stable. However, a low factor of safety (FoS) for these slopes would be computed from the slope stability analysis following local code practices. It seems that the analyzed results following the local code practices do not agree with the real condition as observed in the field. It is commonly known that soil suction plays an important role in slope stability due to a higher shear strength of the unsaturated soil as compared with that of the saturated soil. In this paper, it is observed that the computed FoS can also be affected by unsaturated unit weight of the soil. However, the effect of unsaturated unit weight of the soil on the slope stability is commonly ignored in engineering practice. Therefore, both the effects of shear strength and unit weight of the unsaturated soil on the computed FoS of unsaturated soil slope are investigated in this study. It is observed that the unsaturated unit weight of soil on the computed FoS increases with increase in slope angle. It is also observed that the effects of the unsaturated shear strength and unsaturated unit weight on the computed FoS are more significant than the effect of 3D analyses compared to the 2D analyses on the FoS.
We experimented the physical property of the porous concrete by changing the water cement ratio, when the aggregate ratios are 1:5 and 1:7 separately. And then we received the results as follows. The bigger, the coarse grading of the porous concrete is, the more sensitive to the water cement ratio, the porous concrete becomes. And if we think over its compressive strength, the coarse aggregate which has 5-15mm width is most appropriate. So we concluded that when its compressive strength, permeability coefficient and its unit weight are $50kg/cm^{2}3cm/sec$ and $1900kg/m^{3}$ respectively, the water cement ratio which has 35-37% width is most appropriate, too. And its compressive strength and unit weight show that they are about a quarter and three quarters respectively about the conventional concrete.

Concrete has excellent characteristics as building material and functions relatively well; but it has many problems concerning too heavy weight of the structures. Accordingly, it is the assignment for study in the part of building materials to lighten and high strengthen the weight of concrete structures in order to improve those weak Points; and it seems one of the representative solutions to develop the high strength lightweight aggregate concrete. Based on the experimental results presented, the following conclusions are drawn. The concrete with unit weight of 1.96~2.03t/$m^{2}$, compressive strength of 322~431kgf/$cm^{2}$ was gained. So, it appears that the lightweight aggregate concrete will be useful for low unit weight and high strength lightweight aggregate concrete. In the end, to manufacture artificial lightweight aggregate concrete for construction work is necessary to develope artificial aggregate which has improved performances physically.

The objective of this study is to investigate the compressive strength property of antiwashout underwater concrete with curing water through experimental researches. Type of casting and curing water(fresh water, sea water) are used as main experimental parameter, additionally a few variables affecting compressive strength property are used ; water-cement ratio (45%, 48%, 50%, 52%, 55%), and unit weight of admixtures (antiwashout underwater agent ; 0.6%, 0.8%, 1.0%, 1.2%, 1.4% of unit weight of water, superplasticizer ; 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% of unit weight of cement)) Compressive strength level of antiwashout underwater concrete which was cast and cured in fresh water is higher than other one. Consequently, incremental modulus has to increase when the antiwashout underwater concrete is made use of underwater work from ocean.

In this paper, the thermal properties of porous concrete containing natural fine aggregates in bottom ash aggregates were analyzed. In this study, natural fine aggregates were used for bottom ash aggregates to understand the material properties of each aggregate and then used as an aggregate for porous concrete. A porous concrete specimen was manufactured by fixing the water-binder ratio at 0.25 and designating the compaction at 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 MPa. Unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity test were measured and discussed. As the compaction increased and the mixing ratio of natural fine aggregates increased, the unit weight and thermal conductivity increased, and the total void ratio decreased. In addition, the correlations between unit weight, total void ratio and thermal conductivity of porous concrete with previous experimental data were presented and the correlation coefficient (R2) was also analyzed.

In this study, we made the high strength light weight concrete which was composed of the garnet minute powder to be the industry by-product in the YoungJoo region and the artificial light weight aggregate which the high temperature(1100℃) plastic process. The characteristic of the autogenous shrinkage had been considered about strength characteristic and the age passage In the following addition: The concrete's each unit quantity was determined 145,160,175㎏f/㎥.w/b and s/a was determined 30%, 43%, 45%. the each garnet's substitution ratio was determined 0, 10%. In this results, the compressive strength appeared greatly as the unit joining discretion grew bigger. The autogenous shrinkage ratio was increased rapidly until 7th day but it was reduced after 7th day regardless of the mixed factor. The autogenous shrinkage ratio which follows the change of the unit quantity and s/a increased together as the unit quantity and the s/a increases.

This study is to compare and analyze the physical and strength properties of lightweight concrete using domestic lightweight aggregate by replacement ratio of artificial lightweight fine and coarse aggregate after considering low cement mixture and pre-wetting time. The slump, unit weight, compressive strength and split tensile strength of lightweight concrete with domestic lightweight aggregate were measured. As test results, the slump of lightweight concrete by replacement ratio of lightweight fine aggregate increased as the replacement ratio of lightweight fine aggregate increased. The unit weight of lightweight concrete using 100% of lightweight fine aggregate was about 10.4% lower than that of the lightweight concrete with natural sand. In addition, the unit weight of lightweight concrete by replacement ratio of lightweight coarse aggregate increased with the increase of the ratio of LWG10(5~10mm). The compressive strength of lightweight concrete with lightweight fine and coarse aggregate increased as the replacement ratio of lightweight fine aggregate increased. The compressive strength of lightweight concrete with natural sand and LWG10 was 30 to 31MPa regardless of the replacement ratio of the lightweight coarse aggregate after 7 days.
In this study, an experiment was performed to analyze the influence of water-cement ratio on the fundamental characteristics of antiwashout underwater concrete using blended sand (sea sand:river sand = 1:1). The water-cement ratio (45%, 50%, 55%, 60%), andtiwashout underwater agent contents (0.82%, 1.00%, 1.14% of water contents per unit volume of concrete), and superplasticizer contents (1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% of cement contents per unit volume of concrete) were chosen as the experimental parameters. The experimental results show that the underwater segregation resistance, unit weight of hardening concrete and compressive strength were increased as the water-cement ratio decreased and as the antiwashout underwater agent contents increased. On the other hand, the flowability(slump flow) was increased to the 55% of the increase of water-cement ratio, however, it was decreased at the ratio of 60%. From this study, the antiwashout underwater concrete can potentially be used as a materials underwater work of ocean if the water-cement ratio and chemical admixture contents for the suitable balance between cost and performance are properly selected.
This paper describes the development of a fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) unit cell for analyzing concrete structures by executing a multiscale analysis procedure using the theory of homogenization. This was achieved through solving a periodic unit cell problem of the material in order to evaluate its macroscopic properties. Our research describes the creation of an FRC unit cell through the use of concrete paste generic information e.g. the percentage of aggregates, their distribution, and the percentage of fibers in the concrete. The algorithm presented manipulates the percentage and distribution of these aggregates along with fiber weight to create a finite element unit cell model of the FRC which can be used in a multiscale analysis of concrete structures.
In this study, physical properties of normal concrete, magnetite concrete, EAF concrete, and EAF concrete with added iron powder were evaluated and a feasibility of radiation shielding is also evaluated through irradiation tests against X-rays and gamma-rays. While the unit weight of EAF concrete (3.21 t/㎥) appeared lower than that of magnetite concrete (3.50 t/㎥), the results in compressive strength of EAF concrete were greater than those in magnetite and normal concrete. While the radiation transmission rate of normal concrete reaches 26.0% in the X-ray irradiation test, only 6.0% and 9.0% of transmission rate were observed in magnetite concrete and linear relationship with unit volume weight and radiation shielding. In the gamma-ray irradiation test, the performance of EAF and magnetite concretes appeared to be similar. Through the results on the excellent physical properties and radiation shielding performance a potential applicability of EAF concrete to radiation shielding was verified.
