A Study on the Physical Characteristics of Irrigation Reservoirs in Korea (우리나라 관개용 흙댐 저수지의 외형적 제특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out not only to prepare available materials that can be utilized in basic planning of irrigation reservoirs, but also to contribute to the study on countermeasures for reasonable irrigation water development in Korea in the future, through the investigation for the structural characteristics of reservoirs and their change trend by an epoch. During this study 123 sites of sample reservoirs were analysed in their dimensions of physical constituent factors. The physical characteristics and their change trends revealed by this study are summarized as follows: 1. For the irrigation earth dam in Korea the correlation between dam volume (v) and dam height & length (H$^2$L) can be described as the formula of v=1. 434H2L~17, 300 (r=0. 933), from which embankment amount is assumed to be quickly estimated under determined dam height and length of the proposed reservoir. 2. The ratio of dam volume to dam height & length ranges approximately from 0.5 to 3 (1.7 in average), that of storage capacity to dam volume 2 to 10 (8.4 in average), that of irrigation area to full water surface area 5 to 20 (13 in average) and that of catchment area to irrigation area 2 to 5 (4 in average). Though correlation between dam volume and dam height & length is high, that between others is relatively low. 3. Average storage depth ranges approximately from 4m to l0m (6.6m in average), unit storage capacity 0. 4m to 0. 8m (0.54 in average) and shape factor of dam 5 to 20 (10.5 in average). 4. The more recently planned the reservoirs were, the less storage capacity, dam volume, full water surface and dam shape factor they have. 5.   • This study is the basic data on how much the relocation of military unit influenced to local economy based on the survey targeting local merchants in order to analyze the impact on local economy by the relocation of military unit. That is, this study has actually verified the impact of "sales volume factor, floating population factor, regular customers factor" so questionnaires were distributed and collected targeting local merchants. Research results The impact before and after the relocation of army division 35 was verified to be meaningful and practical. This study verified that the relocation of army division 35 has influence the local economy, more research of impact on the local economy by the relocation of military unit shall be continued.

  • In korea, Freight generation models developed in korea were estimated by spatial unit method which predict freight flow by traffic zone. But it is difficult to predict freight generation using these models, because there are the difference of the totality method of sampling data on freight volume and the variability of the variables by these models on each case study, This study developed new estimation model to predict freight flow which is generated from each company using the characteristics of each company such as the freight outbound & inbound volume, the number of employee, sales, gross area, land area. This model is simpler than the that of spatial unit and can apply to the other region. The subjects of study were companies in metropolitan area and types of model were exponential regression models. The adequate explanatory variable in the models were sales. this study have a uniqueness apply micro research method to estimate freight generation not use spatial unit method but use flow unit method by each company unit.

  • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the logistics industry in Korea has rapidly been expanding, with offline demand concentrating on online platforms owing to the development of digital infrastructure. This has increased the workload of courier drivers considerably, along with labor intensity. A delivery driver died recently from overwork due to the continuous increase in delivery volume, which raises social concerns. Delivery drivers work long hours, (over 12 hours) and are greatly affected by weather conditions, such as snow, rain, heat waves, and cold waves. In addition, they lack a fixed workplace; perform atypical work handling workpieces of various sizes, weights, and shapes; and spend a large amount of time driving as part of their work. This work involves a high level of tension and requires attention and concentration. Despite the frequency of industrial accidents in the courier industry, studies on safety and health to quantitatively analyze and systematize the work of courier workers are very scarce. Therefore, to define the work process necessary for investigating the harmful factors in delivery service and the work analysis, this study conducted interviews and on-site surveys to analyze the unit work of the delivery service by targeting delivery workers. In other words, a framework of unit work for work analysis was presented to enable research and analysis by considering the aforementioned characteristics of the courier industry. The process was broadly divided into work, transport, storage, delay, and inspection. Work was divided into loading, sorting, unloading, and door subcategories, and transportation was divided into vehicle, cart, and walking subcategories as well as 10 small processes. Moreover, 22 unit works were again drawn by conducting field surveys and interviews. The risk of unit work derived from this study was ergonomically evaluated, and the ergonomic analysis revealed that uploading and transportation were the most dangerous. The results of this study could be used as basic data for preventing industrial accidents among courier workers, whose work has increased with the logistics volume and the development of the logistics industry.

The Study on Miniaturization and Weight Reduction of Auxiliary Power Unit in Magnetic Levitation Train

  • Due to the characteristics of the vehicle structure, the magnetic levitation train has a confined bottom space thus a study on miniaturization and weight reduction of auxiliary power unit is essential. This auxiliary power unit is an essential device used for illumination, air conditioning, heating and air brake equipment excluding the motor. The previous auxiliary power unit for magnetic levitation train has used the hard switching having a high switching frequency with heavy loss in order to reduce the size of filter reactor and transformer but the reduction in volume was not significant. In this paper, by reducing the loss, reducing the size of the cooling unit and by increasing the switching frequency using the soft switching of resonant converter, it has miniaturized and reduced the weight of filter reactor and transformer which occupy significant space in the auxiliary power unit. This study has verified the performance of 50KVA grade prototype through simulated interpretation and analysis, and compared the size and weight of auxiliary power unit of the previous magnetic levitation train.

A Study on Carbonation Resistance of Concrete Using Surface-coated Lightweight Aggregates (표면코팅된 경량골재를 사용한 콘크리트의 탄산화 저항성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties and carbonation resistance of concretes using lightweight aggregate coated surface finishing materials. To evaluate the mechanical properties and carbonation resistance of concrete, slump, air amount, air-dried unit volume weight, compressive strength, and carbonation depth are tested. In terms of the unit volume weight of concrete, air-dried unit volume weight of concrete using coating lightweight aggregate was measured as $1,739{\sim}1,806kg/m^3$. When using coating aggregate, compressive strength of concrete at 28 days was measured as much as 82.7~95.9% of the compressive strength using non-coating aggregate. It is found that compressive strength tends to decrease with coating lightweight aggregate. However, all concretes using coating lightweight aggregate except O-LWAC satisfied the criteria for 28-day compressive strength suggested in KS. The measurement of carbonation depth when the water-repellent agent was used found that carbonation depth was reduced by as much as 2.6~6.1%. On the other hand, when using polymer waterproof agent, carbonation depth was reduced by as much as 8.6~12.0%. Consequently, to improve carbonation resistance, polymer waterproof agent was more effective than water-repellent agent. In particular, epoxy showed the most outstanding performance.

  • MIP(Maximum Intensity Projection) is a volume rendering technique which is essential for the medical imaging system. MIP rendering based on the ray casting method produces high quality images but takes a long time. Our aim is improvement of the rendering speed using GPGPU(General-purpose computing on Graphic Process Unit) technique. In this paper, we present the ray casting algorithm based on CUDA(an acronym for Compute Unified Device Architecture) which is a programming language for GPGPU and we suggest new acceleration methods for CUDA. In detail, we propose the block based space leaping which skips unnecessary regions of volume data for CUDA, the bisection method which is a fast method to find a block edge, and the initial value estimation method which improves the probability of space leaping. Due to the proposed methods, we noticeably improve the rendering speed without image quality degradation.

Annual Endovascular Thrombectomy Case Volume and Thrombectomy-capable Hospitals of Korea in Acute Stroke Care

  • Objectives: Although it is difficult to define the quality of stroke care, acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with moderate-to-severe neurological deficits may benefit from thrombectomy-capable hospitals (TCHs) that have a stroke unit, stroke specialists, and a substantial endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) case volume. Methods: From national audit data collected between 2013 and 2016, potential EVT candidates arriving within 24 hours with a baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score ≥6 were identified. Hospitals were classified as TCHs (≥15 EVT case/y, stroke unit, and stroke specialists), primary stroke hospitals (PSHs) without EVT (PSHs-without-EVT, 0 case/y), and PSHs-with-EVT. Thirty-day and 1-year case-fatality rates (CFRs) were analyzed using random intercept multilevel logistic regression. Results: Out of 35 004 AIS patients, 7954 (22.7%) EVT candidates were included in this study. The average 30-day CFR was 16.3% in PSHs-without-EVT, 14.8% in PSHs-with-EVT, and 11.0% in TCHs. The average 1-year CFR was 37.5% in PSHs-without-EVT, 31.3% in PSHs-with-EVT, and 26.2% in TCHs. In TCHs, a significant reduction was not found in the 30-day CFR (odds ratio [OR], 0.92; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.76 to 1.12), but was found in the 1-year CFR (OR, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.73 to 0.96). Conclusions: The 1-year CFR was significantly reduced when EVT candidates were treated at TCHs. TCHs are not defined based solely on the number of EVTs, but also based on the presence of a stroke unit and stroke specialists. This supports the need for TCH certification in Korea and suggests that annual EVT case volume could be used to qualify TCHs.

Development of a Oil-Cooler for High-Speed CNC Lathe (고속 CNC선반용 공랭식 오일 냉각기 개발)

  • Recently, CNC lathe is in need of higher speed for precision works. So more intensive and compact heat exchanger is necessary to cool down the heat in short time from drills and works during high speed working. In this study, to increase heat transfer coefficient per unit volume, inner groove tube is designed and compact oil cooler, 57% volume of conventional type, is manufactured. The heat transfer performance is experimented and is compared with the performance of conventional type.

  • In staically indeterminate structures torsional stiffness is an important factor for prediction of mechanical behavior at all loading stages in reinfored concrete beams, which also for calculation of torsional moment. This paper proposes equation for postcracking torsional stiffness of reinforced concrete beams under pure torsion, which is derived considering the equilibrium and compatibility condition for shear panel based on the variable angle space truss model. The equation describes well the effect according to the variation of aspect ratio and steel volume ratio per unit concrete volume. It agress with experimental results in this paper as well as available literature.
