Al2O3 has excellent sintering properties and is important in semiconductor manufacturing processes that require high-temperature resistance and chemical inertness in a plasma environment. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the chemical characteristics, physical properties, crystal structure, and dispersion stability of three commercially available Al2O3 powders was conducted. The aim was to provide a technological foundation for selecting and utilizing appropriate Al2O3 powders in practical applications. All powders exhibited α-Al2O3 as the main phase, with the presence of beta-phase Na2O-11Al2O3 as the secondary phase. The highest Na+ ion leaching was observed in the aqueous slurry state due to the presence of the secondary phase. Although the average particle size difference among the three powders was not significant, distinct differences in particle size distribution were observed. ALG-1SH showed a broad particle size distribution, P162 exhibited a bimodal distribution, and AES-11 displayed a uniform unimodal distribution. High-concentration Al2O3 slurries showed differences in viscosity due to ion release when no dispersant was added, affecting the electrical double-layer thickness. Polycarboxylate was found to effectively enhance the dispersion stability of all three powders. In the dispersion stability analysis, ALG-1SH exhibited the slowest sedimentation tendency, as evidenced by the low TSI value, while P162 showed faster precipitation, influenced by the particle size distribution.

The effects of methyl isobutyl ketone(MIBK)/ethanol(EtOH) solvent mixtures on the dispension, particle size distribution and rheology of $Al_2$O$_3$/ZrO$_2$ nonaqueous suspensions were investigated by measuring sedimentation density and viscosity. The sedimentation density of $Al_2$O$_3$ and ZrO$_2$ particles increased in MIBK-rich($\geq$60 vol%) solvents with 'Hypermer' KD-1 as a dispersant. The ball-milled suspensions in 80MIBK/20EtOH(vol%) solvent exhibited the narrow and unimodal particle size distribution. Although all Suspensions exhibited the Pseduo-Plastic flow(Shear thinning) the shear thinning behavior was somewhat different depending on the mixture ratio of $Al_2$O$_3$/ZrO$_2$ and MIBK/EtOH. Under a given shear rate( <300 s$^{-1}$ for $Al_2$O$_3$; <3000 s$^{-1}$ for ZrO$_2$) the strongest shear thinning appeared in the $Al_2$O$_3$ and ZrO$_2$ suspensions with pure MIBK solvent. The shear thinning was nearly independable on the mixture ratio of $Al_2$O$_3$/ZrO$_2$ in case of using the identical solvent(80MIBK/20EtOH, vol%).
Coalescence process of binary immiscible fluid mixtures having bimodal size distributions, prepared by mixing two pre-sheared samples at different shear rates, ${\gamma}_{pre1}\;and\;{\gamma}_{pre2}$, under shear flow at a final shear rate, ${\gamma}_f$, are examined by transient shear stress measurements and microscopic observations in comparison with the results for simply pre-sheared samples having narrow size distributions (unimodal distribution samples). Component fluids are a silicone oil (PDMS) and a hydrocarbon-formaldehyde resin (Genelite) and their viscosities are 14.1 and 21.0 $pa{\cdot}sec$ at room temperature $(ca.\;20^{\circ}C)$, respectively. The weight ratio of PDMS: Genelite was 7:3. Three cases, $({\gamma}_{pre1}=7.2sec^{-1},\;{\gamma}_{pre2}=12.0sec^{-1}\;and\;{\gamma}_f=2.4sec^{-1}),\;({\gamma}_{pre1}=0.8sec^{-1},\;{\gamma}_{pre2}=4.0sec^{-1}\;and\;{\gamma}_f=2.4sec^{-1}),\;and\;({\gamma}_{pre1}=7.2sec^{-1},\;{\gamma}_{pre2}=12.0^sec^{-1}\;and\;{\gamma}_f=7.2sec^{-1})$ the first case, transient shear stress did not show any significant difference but domains larger than the initial state are observed at short times. In the latter cases, there exist undershoot of shear stress, reflecting existence of deformed large domains, which is confirmed by the direct observation. It is concluded that coalescence between large and small domains more frequently occur than coalescence between the domains with similar size in the bimodal distribution samples.
In this study, the effect of the initial particle size distribution (PSD) of (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 powders on the microstructure of sintered ceramics was investigated. (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 powders with uni-, bi-, tri-, and quad-modal PSDs were obtained through a planetary ball-mill. For the specimens sintered at 1080℃, the growth of abnormal grains was promoted from the powders exhibiting quad- and tri-modal PSDs with a high content of large particles, resulting in a microstructure in which huge abnormal grains were predominant. However, as the number of peaks in PSD and the overall particle size decreased, the abnormal grain growth was suppressed and the grain growth of small particles started, resulting in a microstructure with a uniform grain size. For the specimens sintered at 1100℃, huge abnormal grains were not observed due to the decrease in the critical driving force for 2D nucleation even when powders with quad- and tri-modal PSDs were used. It was confirmed that when powder with unimodal PSD was used, a uniform microstructure that was not significantly affected by the sintering temperature could be obtained. The results of this study demonstrate that the microstructure of (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3-based ceramics can be controlled by controlling the particle size of the initial powder.

This paper presents a numerical optimization method to improve the performance of the propeller with Turbo-Ring using real-coded genetic algorithm. In the presented method, Unimodal Normal Distribution Crossover (UNDX) and Minimal Generation Gap (MGG) model are used as crossover operator and generation-alternation model, respectively. Propeller characteristics are evaluated by a simple surface panel method "SQCM" in the optimization process. Blade sections of the original Turbo-Ring and propeller are replaced by the NACA66 a = 0.8 section. However, original chord, skew, rake and maximum blade thickness distributions in the radial direction are unchanged. Pitch and maximum camber distributions in the radial direction are selected as the design variables. Optimization is conducted to maximize the efficiency of the propeller with Turbo-Ring. The experimental result shows that the efficiency of the optimized propeller with Turbo-Ring is higher than that of the original propeller with Turbo-Ring.

The biodegradable and biocompatible poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV), a copolymer of microbial polyester, was fabricated as nanofibrous mats by electrospinning. Image analysis of the electrospun nanofibers fabricated from a 2 wt% 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol solution revealed a unimodal distribution pattern of fiber diameters with an observed average diameter of ca. 185 nm. The fiber diameter of electrospun fabrics could be controlled by adjusting the electro spinning parameters, including the solvent composition, concentration, applied voltage, and tip-to-collector distance. Chondrocytes derived from rabbit ear were cultured on a PHBV cast film and an electrospun PHBV nano-fibrous mat. After incubation for 2 h, the percentages of attached chondrocytes on the surfaces of the flat PHBV film and the PHBV nanofibrous mat were 19.0 and 30.1 %, respectively. On the surface of the electrospun PHBV fabric, more chondrocytes were attached and appeared to have a much greater spreaded morphology than did that of the flat PHBV cast film in the early culture stage. The electro spun PHBV nanofabric provides an attractive structure for the attachment and growth of chondrocytes as cell culture surfaces for tissue engineering.
Massive Compact Elliptical Galaxies (MCEGs) found in the local universe are as massive as normal galaxies but extremely compact (M∗ > 1011 Msun, Reff < 1.5 kpc). They are considered to be the relics of red nugget galaxies found at high redshift. They are not likely to have undergone many mergers, keeping their original mass and size. Moreover, it is expected that they host a dominant population of red (metal-rich) globular clusters rather than blue (metal-poor) ones. Indeed, Beasley et al. (2018) found that the color distribution of the cluster system of NGC 1277 is unimodal, showing only a red population. However, NGC 1277 is the only case whose cluster system was studied among MCEGs. In this study, we investigate globular cluster systems of 14 nearby MCEGs with a homogeneous data set of HST/WFC3 F814W/F160W archive images. We detect tens to hundreds of globular clusters in each galaxy and examine their color distributions. Surprisingly, the fractions of red globular clusters are similar to those of normal galaxies, and are much lower than that of NGC 1277. We additionally obtain Gemini/GMOS-N g'r'i' images of PGC 70520, one of the 14 nearby MCEGs, to detect more globular clusters from deeper and wider images. We will discuss the results from the Gemini data combined with the results from the HST data in relation with the formation of MCEGs.
Atmospheric aerosol particles were investigated at GNTECH university in Jinju city. Samples were collected using the Nanosampler period from January to December 2014. The Nanosampler is a 6 stage cascade impactor(1 stage : > $10{\mu}m$, 2 stage : $2.5{\sim}10{\mu}m$, 3 stage : $1.0{\sim}2.5{\mu}m$, 4 stage : $0.5{\sim}10{\mu}m$, 5 stage : $0.1{\sim}0.5{\mu}m$, back-up : < $0.1{\mu}m$) with the stages having 50% cut-off ranging from 0.1 to $10{\mu}m$ in aerodynamic diameter. The mass size distribution of Atmospheric aerosol particles was unimodal with peak at $1.0{\sim}2.5{\mu}m$ or $0.5{\sim}1.0{\mu}m$. The annual average concentrations of TSP, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$, $PM_{0.5}$ and $PM_{0.1}$ were $44.0{\mu}g/m^3$, $40.3{\mu}g/m^3$, $31.4{\mu}g/m^3$, $18.0{\mu}g/m^3$, $8.0{\mu}g/m^3$, $3.0{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. On average $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$, $PM_{0.5}$ and $PM_{0.1}$ make up 0.91, 0.70, 0.41, 0.19 and 0.07 of TSP, respectively. The annual average of $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ ratio was 0.77.
Spherical, ${\mu}m$-sized particles of barium titanyl oxalate were prepared by thermal decomposition of dimethyl oxalate in acidic barium and titanium solutions. Precipitation was carried out in the presence of several supporting anions. Spherical particles having a specific type of particle size distribution. i.e., unimodal or bimodal distribution, with mean size in the range of $0.2{\sim}3{\mu}m$, were formed depending on the supporting anions, oxalate ion generation rate and aging time. Particles of barium titanyl oxalate settled on the bottom of the beaker at the aging time of 120 min grew to the critical monosize of about $1.5{\sim}3{\mu}m$. XRD spectra and chemical analyses of barium titanate showed that barium titanyl oxalate with high qualities could be synthesized by choosing chloride ion as a supporting anion and increasing the reaction temperatures.

Although a scooter is a convenient transportation means for a short distance traveling with a light package in the congested urban center, it might be one of the significant sources of air pollutants to which many people can easily be exposed during its passing-by. In this paper, we measured concentrations of gases and particles emitted from a scooter at roadside with no other traffic. To understand the characteristics of scooter emissions with respect to driving speed (idling, 30 km/h) at the roadside, total particle number concentration, particle size distribution, average surface area of particles deposited in the alveolar region, and concentrations of black carbon, CO, and $NO_x$ were measured. The concentrations of the particle number, surface area of deposited particles, CO, and $NO_x$ were highly fluctuated in the scooter's idling condition. The trends of particle number concentration, CO, and $NO_x$ generation were similar to one another. When the scooter started to move, all of $NO_x$, CO and particle number concentrations increased and after it passed by at the speed of 30 km/h, the concentration peaks of the particles and gases appeared at the same time. Unimodal size distribution with ~70 and ~93 nm mode diameters was observed for the idling and cruising condition, respectively. From this work, we found that emission from a passing vehicle could be characterized using a roadside monitoring technique.
