Vibration profiles consist of two kinds of pattern, random and harmonic, at general engineering problems and the detailed vibration test mode of a target system is decided by the spectral condition that is exposed under operation. In moving mobility, random responses come generally from road source; whereas the harmonic responses are triggered from rotating machinery parts, such as combustion engine or drive shaft. Different spectral input may accumulate different damage in frequency domain since the accumulated fatigue damage dependent on the pattern of input spectrum in high cyclic loading condition. To evaluate the sensitivity of spectral damage according to different loading conditions, a linear elastic system is introduced to conduct a uniaxial vibration testing. Measured data, acceleration and strain, is analyzed using energy isocline function and then, the calculated fatigue damage is compared by different loading cases, random and harmonic.

In this study, to evaluate the possibility of using a steel spring as a displacement-dependent damping device, tensile loading and cyclic loading tests were performed. The main experimental variables were the type of steel (SAE9254 and SS275), the spring constant (700 N/mm, 1,000 N/mm, and 1,400 N/mm), and the presence or absence of heat treatment for SAE9254. As a result of the tensile test, the ratios of the measured spring constant to the design spring constant of the steel springs made with SAE9254 ranged from 1.08 to 1.13, while the ratios of the design spring constant and the measured spring constant of the steel springs made with SS275 ranged from 0.86 to 0.97. After yielding, the slope values of the load-displacement curve of the SAE9254 with/without heat treatment were about 240~251 N/mm and 92 N/mm, respectively, but the slope values of the load-displacement response of SS275 were almost zero. According to the uniaxial cyclic loading test results, all specimens were satisfied with three conditions for a displacement-dependent damping device in KDS 41 17 00 (2019): the maximum force and minimum force at zero displacement, the maximum force and minimum force at the maximum displacement, and the energy dissipation capacity. In addition, the equivalent damping ratios of steel springs made with SAE9254(non-heat treatment) and SS275 were approximately 2.8 times and 1.9 times greater, respectively, than that of steel springs made with SAE9254.

An attempt has been made to measure existing steel stress using magnetoelasticity. A device has been developed and used for the measurement of magnetism in response to the deformation of a steel bar. The proposed technique can be used for the assessment of existing reinforced concrete structures by the measurements of steel stress embedded inside concrete. A traditional technique requires to break the existing steel bar to measure existing strain. However, the proposed technique is developed to measure the stress without damaging the steel bar. A successful application of magnetoelasticity depends on the establishment of relationship between elastic and magnetic response due to loading. To investigate the correlation between the two, steel bars are loaded in tension under uniaxial loading while the magnetic reading is recorded. Based on the test results, equations are suggested to predict stress for steel bars with different diameters.

The HPFRCCs show that the multiple crack propagation, high tensile strength and ductility due to the interfacial bonding of the fibers to the cement matrix. Moreover, performance of cement composites varies according to type and weight contents of reinforcing fiber. and HPFRCCs with hybrid fiber have better performance than HPFRCCs with single fiber in damage tolerance. Total four cylindrical specimens were tested, and the main variables were the type and weight contents of fiber, which was polyvinylalchol (PVA), polyethylene (PE). In order to clarify effect of hybrid types on the characteristics of fracture and damage process in cement composites, AE method was performed to detect micro-cracking in HPFRCCs under cyclic compression. Loading conditions of the uniaxial compression test were monotonic and cyclic loading. And from AE parameter value, it is found that the second and third compressive load cycles resulted in successive decrease of the amplitude as compared with the first compressive load cvcle.

During earthquake, reinforced concrete walls show complicated post-yield behavior varying with shear span-to-depth ratio, re-bar detail, and loading condition. In the present study, a macro-model for the nonlinear analysis of multi-story wall structures was developed. To conveniently describe the coupled flexure-compression and shear responses, a reinforced concrete wall was idealized with longitudinal and diagonal uniaxial elements. Simplified cyclic material models were used to describe the cyclic behavior of concrete and re-bars. For verification, the proposed method was applied to various existing test specimens of isolated and coupled walls. The results showed that the predictions agreed well with the test results including the load-carrying capacity, deformation capacity, and failure mode. Further the proposed model was applied to an existing wall structure tested on a shaking table. Three-dimensional nonlinear time history analyses using the proposed model were performed for the test specimen. The time history responses of the proposed method agreed with the test results including the lateral displacements and base shear.

Domestic reinforced concrete (RC) apartments have a unique structural system that consists of shear walls and rink members of slabs and lintels. In this study, the nonlinear static analysis of two RC shear wall sub-assemblages, with and without lintels, was conducted using the uniaxial spring model to develop a method for accurately predicting the seismic behavior of domestic RC apartments. In the case of the specimen without lintels, the analytical result successfully represented a simulation of the nonlinear behavior of the specimen in accordance with the test result. On the other hand, in the case of the specimen with lintels, the analysis resulted in underestimating the nonlinear behavior of the specimen compared to the test result, because the coupling effect could not be predicted from the earlier loading cycle.

The research reported herein is concerned with the model testing of piles socketed in soft rock which was simulated by cement, plaster, sand, water and concrete hardening accelerator. Model tests on a single pile socketed in simulated soft rock under axial cyclic loading were conducted and the bearing capacity and accumulated deformation characteristics under different static, and cyclic loads were studied by using a device which combined oneself-designed test apparatus with a dynamic triaxial system. The accumulated deformation of the pile head, and the axial force, were measured by LVDT and strain gauges, respectively. Test results show that the static load ratio (SLR), cyclic load ratio (CLR), and the number of cycles affect the accumulated deformation, cyclic secant modulus of pile head, and ultimate bearing capacity. The accumulated deformation increases with increasing numbers of cycles, however, its rate of growth decreases and is asymptotic to zero. The cyclic secant modulus of pile head increases and then decreases with the growth in the number of cycles, and finally remains stable after 50 cycles. The ultimate bearing capacity of the pile is increased by about 30% because of the cyclic loading thereon, and the axial force is changed due to the applied cyclic shear stress. According to the test results, the development of accumulated settlement is analysed. Finally, an empirical formula for accumulated settlement, considering the effects of the number of cycles, the static load ratio, the cyclic load ratio and the uniaxial compressive strength, is proposed which can be used for feasibility studies or preliminary design of pile foundations on soft rock subjected to cyclic loading.

In order to quantify the relationships of the important physical factors relating failure to strong earthquake loading, the plastic fatigue problems for structural components under repeated loading were reviewed first. A new concept of very low cycle fatigue failure for structural components under severe cyclic excitations as in strong earthquakes was represented. Also, an experimental study was made of the very low cycle fatigue failure of structural steel elements. It was attempted to realize the ultimate failure in the course of loading repetitions of the order of several to twenty. The test specimen had a form of rectangular plate, representing a thin-plated element in a steel member as wide-flange cross section. It was subjected to uniaxial loading repeatedly, until complete failure takes place after undergoing inelastic buckling, plastic elongation and/or their combination. It was seen as a result that the state of the ultimate failure is closely related to the maximum strain at the extreme fiber in the cross section.
In this paper, it is intended to present more reproducible and quantitative method for adhesion assemssement. In scratch test, micromechanical analysis on the stress state beneath the indenter was carried out considering the additional blister field. The interface adhesion was quantified as work of adhesion through Griffith energy approach on the basis of the analyzed stress state. The work of adhesion for DLC film/WC-Co substrate calculated through the proposed analysis shows the identical value regardless of distinctly different critical loads measured with the change of film thickness and scratching speed. On the other hand, uniaxial loading was imposed on DCL film/Al substrate, developing the transverse film cracks perpendicular to loading direction. Since this film cracking behavior depends on the relative magnitude of adhesion strength to film fracture strength, the quantification of adhesion strength was given a trial through the micromechanical analysis of adhesion-dependence of film cracking patterns. The interface shear strength can be quantified from the measurement of strain $\varepsilon$s and crack spacing $\lambda$ at the cessation of film cracking.

The present work focuses on the characterization of material parameters of the Overlay(multilinear hardening) model for analyzing the non-isothermal cyclic deformation. In the previous study, all the parameters were especially based on the Overlay theories, and a simple method was suggested to find out the best material parameters for the isothermal cyclic deformation analysis. Based on the previous research this paper f dther improves the isothermal parameters and suggests how to apply the isothermal parameters to the non-isothermal conditions especially for the description of TMF(Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue) hysteresis behavior. The parameters are determined and calibrated using 400 series stainless steel test data in the reference papers. For the implementation into ABAQUS, a user subroutine is developed by means of ABAQUS/UMAT. The finite element results show good agreement with test for the case of uniaxial non-isothermal cyclic loading, signifying the proposed method can be used in the TMF analysis of the converter-inserted heavy duty muffler system and the stainless steel exhaust-manifold system which are to be done in our future research.
