This study is performed to examine the physical and mechanical properties of concrete using recycled aggregate and industrial by-products. The test results show that the unit weight, compressive and flexural strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity are decreased with increasing the content of recycled aggregate. But, the absorption ratio is increased with increasing the content of recycled aggregate. The unit weight is 2,237∼2,307 kg/$\textrm{m}^3$, the absorption ratio is 2.96∼4.12%, the compressive strength is 415∼532 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the flexural strength is 75∼96 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the ultrasonic pulse velocity is 4,350∼4,949 m/s and the dynamic modulus of elasticity is $390\times10^3\;∼\;465\times10^3$ kg f/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively These recycled aggregate concrete can be used for high strength concrete.
This study was performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of porous concrete using waste activated carbon. Material used were ordinary portland cement, recycled coarse aggregate, waste activated carbon and superplasticizer. The replacement ratios of waste activated carbon were 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and 10 %. The void ratio was decreased and ultrasonic pulse velocity was increased with increasing the waste activated carbon powder, respectively. The compressive strength and flexural strength of porous concrete using waste activated carbon powder were in the range of 8.21${\sim1}$6.58 MPa and 1.69${\sim1}$3.68 MPa, respectively. The pH degree of porous concrete in 1day and 77days were shown in 12.50${\sim1}$12.63 and 10.21${\sim1}$10.70, respectively. Accordingly, waste activated carbon can be used for porous concrete material.
The non-destructive tests are widely used to predict the strength of existing structures. The purpose of the present study is to propose the prediction equations for strength evaluation of concrete structures. The present study focuses on the rebound method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method for quartzite aggregate concrete. The major test variables include the water-cement ratio and curing methods. The water-cement ratio are 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, respectively and the curing method covers ail-dry condition and standard curing condition. The prediction equations for strength of concrete are proposed from the present test data.
It is required that the compressive strength of concrete should be estimated accurately from the view point of efficient quality control and maintenance of buildings. In this paper, the equations to estimate the compressive strength of concrete using granite aggregates were suggested for both rebound hammer method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method. The results were compared with those for different age or curing condition. The rebound numbers for concrete cured in air were larger than for concrete cured in water. The difference between rebound numbers for concrete cured in water and in air was larger than for concrete cured in water. The difference between rebound numbers for concrete cured in water and in air was larger when water cement ratio was high. Also, with the increase of age, the velocity of ultrasonic pulse for concrete cured in air was measured larger when compared with that in water.
In order to analyze the healing effectiveness of rock salt cracks affected by the applied stresses and time, we used the ultrasonic technology to monitor the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) variations for different initial stress-damaged rock salts during self-healing experiments. The self-healing experiments were to create different conditions to improve the microcracks closure or recrystallized, which the self-healing effect of damaged salt specimens were analyzed during the recovery period about 30 days. We found that: The ultrasonic pulse velocity of the damaged rock salts increases rapidly during the first 9 days recovery, and the values gradually increase to reach constant values after 30 days. The damaged value and the healed value were identified based on the variation of the wave velocity. The damaged values of the specimens that are subject to higher initial damage stress are still keeping in large after 30 days recovery under the same recovery condition It is interesting that the damage and the healing were not in the linear relationship, and there also existed a damage threshold for salt cracks healing ability. When the damage degree is less than the threshold, the self-healing ratio of rock salt is increased with the increase in damage degree. However, while the damage degree exceeds the threshold, the self-healing ratio is decreased with the increase in damage.
재료의 손상을 평가하기 위하여 초음파법에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되었고 널리 사용되고 있으나 대부분 균열의 성장 또는 두께의 감소와 같은 문제에 집중되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 2.25Cr-1Mo 강을 이용하여 반복하중에 의해 재료내부에 발생하는 미시균열을 조기에 감지하고, 피로에 의한 파괴를 미연에 방지할 수 있도록 초음파 표면파의 감쇠와 속도변화를 이용하여 균열길이 측정의 정량적인 평가방법을 제시하였다. 중심주파수 5MHz의 탐촉자를 이용하여 파단수명비 약 60%, 균열길이 약 2mm 정도에서 표면파의 속도 및 감쇠 변화를 탐지할 수 있었다. 고주파 탐촉자를 이용함으로써 미시균열의 발생을 조기에 탐지할 수 있으며, 파단수명을 예측하는 기초자료로 활용할 수 있다.
To evaluate rock bolt integrity, destructive test such as pull-out test has been commonly carried out. This method is known as time consuming, expensive, and inaccurate procedure. To improve destructive method, non-destructive techniques using transmitted guided ultrasonic waves were suggested. Note for the transmission method, the source for the generation of ultrasonic waves should be installed during the rock bolt construction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reflection method using reflected guided ultrasonic waves to evaluate the integrity of the rock bolt grouted, and to compare the results evaluated by the reflection and transmission methods. The guided waves are generated by PZT element and received by AE sensor. The measured signals are analyzed by the wavelet transform. The results show that the energy velocities of guided ultrasonic waves increase with the defect ratio in both transmission and reflection method. The reflection method produces the lower velocity in all defect ratio. This research demonstrates that the reflection method may be suitable and easer method for the field tests.
본 연구에서는 생성 당시의 퇴적환경이 상이한 것으로 알려진 대구지역의 적색 셰일과 흑색 셰일의 물리적 및 역학적 특성을 확인하기 위하여 단위중량, 흡수율, 공극률, 초음파속도, 일축압축강도, 점하중강도, 슬레이크 내구성 및 열화특성 시험 등을 실시하였고, XRD 및 XRF 분석과 SEM 영상 분석을 수행하였다. 시험결과 두 셰일의 단위중량은 유사하였으나 흡수율과 공극률은 적색 셰일이 흑색 셰일보다 더 높았다. 특이하게도 공극률이 높은 적색 셰일의 초음파속도, 일축압축강도, 점하중강도지수 가 흑색보다 더 높은 값을 보였는데 이는 흑색 셰일 내에 발달된 엽층리의 영향인 것으로 판단된다. 열화시험에서는 용액의 산성도가 증가할수록 또 수침시간이 길어질수록 시료의 점하중강도지수와 슬레이크 내구성지수의 저감정도가 심하였으며, 흑색 셰일보다는 공극률이 큰 적색 셰일에서 더 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.
The present study verifies compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, electrical resistance,permeable ratio, and shrinkage from waste glass controlled low strength materials (WGCLSM) and early-high-strength WGCSLM specimens, by replacing the sand with waste glass percentages of 0%, 10%,20%, and 30%. This study reveals that increasing amounts of waste LCD glass incorporated into concrete increases WGCLSM fluidity and reduces the setting time, resulting in good working properties. By increasing the glass to sand replacement ratio, the compressive strength decreases to achieve low-strength effects. Furthermore, the electrical resistance also rises as a result of increasing the glass to sand replacement ratio. Early-high-strength WGCSLM aged 28 days has twice the electrical resistance compared to general WGCSLM. Early-high-strength WGCSLM aged 7 days has a higher ultrasonic pulse velocity similar to WGCSLM aged 28 days. The variation of length with age of different compositions is all within the tolerance range of 0.025%. This study demonstrates that the proper composition ratio of waste LCD glass to sand in early-high-strength WGCSLM can be determined by using different amounts of glass-sand. A mechanism for LCD optical waste glass usage can be established to achieve industrial waste minimization, resource recycling, and economic security.
It is well recognized that improving capacity of positive grid in battery is one of key factors for controlling the expected long lift-time of Battery Energy Storage System(B.E.S.S). Thus it is really important to characterized material properties of positive grid which are mainly affected by fabrication process. In this study, two kinds of positive grids, which were fabricated by gravity casting and die-casting technique were used. Micro-structural observation and tensile test were conducted to investigate the effect of fabrication process of positive grid. Ultrasonic measurement based on pulse-echo method and ultrasonic C-scan technique also performed to correlate ultrasonic velocity with porosity ratio in positive grid. It was found that the porosity ratio of grid fabricated by gravity casting technique increased significantly compared to the grid fabricated by die-casting technique. It was also shown that ulrasonic technique is effective to evaluate the porosity ratio in positive grid.
