  • A stator of ultrasonic motor of high torque with a new configuration is proposed. The stator designed newly is two sided vibrator consisting of toothed metal disk with piezoelectric ceramic ring bonded on both face of disk. which generates a flexural traveling wave along the circumference of disk. it produces a large vibrating force and amplitude because the vibrator is sandwiched by two piezoelectric ring. The finite element method was used to compute the vibration mode of the stator with a outer diameter of 48mm. A 6th vibration mode was chosen as operation mode with resonance frequency about 72kHz. According to the design, the prototype stator was fabricated and its performance was measured.

The newly designed stator is a two sided vibrator consisting of a toothed metal disk with a piezoelectric ceramic ring bonded on both faces of the disk which generates a flexural traveling wave along the circumference of disk. In this configuration, the displacement on the surface of stator may not be confined. It also produces a large vibrating force and amplitude because the vibrator is sandwiched by two piezoelectric plates. It is possible to increase the torque by improving the vibration characteristics. To compute the vibration mode of the motor of diameter 48 mm, the finite element method was used. A 6th mode was chosen as the operation mode with a resonance frequency of about 64.4 kHz. According to this design and measured its performance, a prototype was fabricated. The performance measurement of the prototype motor showed that its stall torque was about 1.8 Nm and efficiency was 37% at 60% of the maximum torque.

  • This paper presents a comparative study of a Tubular Linear Machine (TLM) with an Axially Magnetized Single-sided Permanent Magnet (AMSPM) and an Axially Magnetized Double-sided Permanent Magnet (AMDPM) based on analytical field calculations. Using a two-dimensional (2-D) polar coordinate system and a magnetic vector potential, analytical solutions for the flux density produced by the stator windings are derived. This technique is significant for the design and control implementation of electromagnetic machines. The field solution is obtained by solving Maxwell's equations in the simplified boundary value problem consisting of the air gap and coil. These analytical solutions are then used to estimate the self and mutual inductances. Two different types of machine are used to verify the validity of these model simplifications, and the analytical results are compared to results obtained using the finite element method (FEM) and experimental measurement.

  • This paper proposes a coordinated control for an independent multi-phase transverse flux linear synchronous motor (IM-TFLSM) based on magnetic levitation. The stator structures of the IM-TFLSM are composed of a two set, which has independent three-phase windings and a double-sided air-gap as opposed to the conventional Y-connected three-phase linear motors. A suitable control algorithm is necessary to operate the applied linear machine. This study proposes a coordinated control algorithm for adjusting the mover air-gap and thrust force of the IM-TFLSM in order to maintain air-gap and phase shifted current control of the independent 3-phase modules. In addition, the principle of operation and its special structures are described in detail and the validity and effectiveness of the control algorithm is verified through multiple experimental results.
