The characteristics of flow and heat transfer in a bubbling fluidized bed are investigated by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). To simulate two-phase flow for the gas and solid flows, Eulerian-Eulerian approach is applied. Attention is paid for a heat transfer from the wall to fluidized bed by bubbling motion of the flow. From the result, it is confirmed that heat transfer is promoted by chaotic bubbling motion of the flow by enhancement of mixing among solid particles. In particular, the vortical flow motion around gas bubble plays an important role for the mixing and consequent heat transfer. Discussion is made for the time and space averaged Nusselt number which shows peculiar characteristics corresponding to different flow regimes.

In this study, the mass transfer behaviors of phenanthrene, anthracene, and pyrene in soil slurry reactor (SSR) using two-liquid phase (TLP) system were investigated. The mass transfer ratio and rate of PAH in the TLP system using light paraffine oil, which has the highest solubility of PAH, were influenced by the amount of light paraffine oil and mixing speed. When the amount of light paraffine oil decreased from 15 % to 2.5 % (v/v), the mass transfer ratio of anthracene decreased significantly compared with that of phenanthrene and pyrene. As mixing speed increased, the initial mass transfer rate of PAH within 1 day was enhanced. However, each final mass transfer ratio of three PAHs after 5 day was similar irrespective of mixing speed.
Eosin-doped boric acid glass saturable absorber has a relatively low saturation intensity (700 mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and low power optical phase conjugation is achived by the degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) experiments. Polarization properties of optical phase conjugation by DFWM have been demonstrated in this materials using a cw argon ion laser at wavelength 488 nm. The dependence of the phase conjugated reflectivity on the intensity and wavelength of the pump beam is examined. The magnitude of the energy exchange by the nondegenerate two-wave mixing (NDTWM) is maximized by frequency difference between the two beams of $\varphi\simeq$ 1100 Hz.

Turbulent in-situ mixing process is a new material process technology to get dispersed phase in nanometer size by controlling reaction of liquid/liquid, liquid/solid and liquid/gas, flow and solidification speed simultaneously. In this study mixing, the key technology to this synthesis method will be studied by computational fluid dynamics. For the simulation of mixing of liquid metal, static mixers will be investigated. Two inlets for different liquid metal meet and merge like 'Y' shape tube. The tube has various shapes such as straight and curved. Also, the radius of curve will be varied. The performance of mixer will be evaluated with quantitative analysis with coefficient of variance of mass fraction. Also, detailed plots of intersection will be presented to understand effect of mixer shape on mixing.
A thermal-hydraulic code, named CUPID, has been being developed for the realistic analysis of transient two-phase flows in nuclear reactor components. The CUPID code development was motivated from very practical needs, including the analyses of a downcomer boiling, a two-phase flow mixing in a pool, and a two-phase flow in a direct vessel injection system. The CUPID code adopts a two-fluid, three-field model for two-phase flows, and the governing equations are solved over unstructured grids with a semi-implicit two-step method. This paper presents an overview of the CUPID code development and assessment strategy. It also presents the code couplings with a system code, MARS, and, a three-dimensional reactor kinetics code, MASTER.

Interface effects on properties of NTC thermistors having Mn-Co-O spinel crystal structure system are analyzed by a mixing rule in case of mixed types and layered types between CuO and Al$_2$O$_3$ added compounds. With adding CuO and Al$_2$O$_3$, The compounds form completely solid solution and their resistance and B constant are changed due to the variation of conduction electrons by their ionic substitutions. The properties of mixed NTC thermistors are depended on the logarithmic mixing rule by a dispersed phase and they show slightly lower values due to the lattice mixing affect in compared with calculated values. The resistance of layered NTC thermistors is depended upon the series mixing rule containing the value of an interface layer and effected by the variation of its thickness, and it is changed rapidly to the logarithmic mixing rule by the connection between two layers with increasing the interface layer

Isothermal (vapor + liquid) equilibrium data measurements were undertaken for the binary mixtures of (propylene oxide + 1-pentanol) system at three different temperatures (303.15, 318.15, and 333.15) K. The Peng-Robinson-Stryjek-Vera equation of state (PRSV EOS) was used to correlate the experimental data. The van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule was used for the vapor phase and the Wong-Sandler mixing rule, which incorporates the non-random two liquid (NRTL) model, the universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) model and the Wilson model, was used for the liquid phase. The experimental data were in good agreement with the correlation results.
In drilling process of oil wells, the drilling fluid such as mud keeps the drill bit cool and clean during drilling, with suspending drill cuttings and lubricating a drill bit. In this paper, a commercial CFD package(ANSYS Fluent 15.0) was used to solve the hydrodynamic force and evaluate mud mixing time in the mud mixing tank on offshore drilling platforms. Prediction of power consumption in co-rotating and counter-rotating models has been compared with results of Nagata's correlation equation. This research shows the hydrodynamic effect inside the two phase mud mixing tank according to rotating directions(co-rotating and counter-rotating). These results, we can conclude that the co-rotating direction of the two shafts with mixing blade in the mud mixing tank can be a preferable in power consumption and mixing time reduction.

In this paper, the oscillation condition for the linear phase-conjugate oscillator which consists of one photorefractive crystal, two conventional mirrors, and two pump waves applied externally has been analyzed. In the result, it has been shown that the oscillation condition of this oscillator can be easily controlled by adjusting the various parameters such as the intensity ratio, polarization states, and light path difference of two pump waves, etc.

The turbulent properties in a mixed statistically stationary flow were investigated experimentally by a pseudo stereoscopic PIV. In order to validate the experimental results, the profiles of the turbulent kinetic energy were evaluated with the flow features. A mechanical agitator having 6 blades was installed at the bottom of the mixing tank (D=60cm, H=60cm). The agitator was rotated with 80rpm clockwise and counter-clockwise. For the measurements, three cameras were used and all were synchronized. The images captured by one of the three cameras was used for the measurement of rotational speed, and the images captured by the other two cameras were used to measure three dimensional components of velocity vectors. All vectors captured at the same rotational angle were phase averaged to construct three-dimensional vector fields to reconstruct the spatial distribution of the flow properties. It was seen that the jet scrolling along the tank was the main source of mixing.
