Electro-Rheological(ER) fluids undergo a phase-change when subjected to an external electic field, and this phase-change typically manifests itself as a many-order-of-magnitude change in the rheological behavior. This phenomenon permits the global stiffness and energy- dissipation properties of the beam structures to be tuned in order to synthesize the desired vibration characteristics. This paper reports on a proof-of-concept experimental investigation focussed on evaluation the vibration properties of hollow cantilevered beams filled with an ER fluid. and consequently deriving an empirical model for predicting field-dependent vibration characteristics. A hydrous-based ER fluid consisting of corn starch and silicone oil is employed. The beams are considered to be uniform viscoelastic materials and modelled as a viscously-damped harmonic oscillator. Natural frequency, damping ratio and elastic modulus are evaluated with respect to the electric field and compared among three different beams: two types of different volume fraction of ER fluid and one type of different particle concentration of ER fluid by weight. Transient and forced vibration responses are examined in time domain to demonstrate the validity of the proposed empirical model and to evaluate the feasibility of using the ERfluid as an actuator in a closed-loop control system.

This paper presents an excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator circuit design, which can synchronize two neuron-bursting patterns. The excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator is composed of CMOS neurons and CMOS excitatory synapses. And the neurons and synapses are connected into a close loop. The CMOS neuron is based on the Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) neuron model and excitatory synapse is based on the chemical synapse model. In order to fabricate using a 0.18 um CMOS standard process technology with 1.8V compatible transistors, both time and amplitude scaling of HR neuron model is adopted. This full-chip integration minimizes the power consumption and circuit size, which is ideal for motion control unit of the proposed bio-mimetic micro-robot. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed excitatory CMOS neuron oscillator performs the expected waveforms with scaled time and amplitude. The active silicon area of the fabricated chip is $1.1mm^2$ including I/O pads.

LCL filters are widely used in high-order harmonics attenuation of output currents in grid-connected inverters. However, output currents of grid-connected inverters with LCL filters can become unstable because of the resonance of the filters. Given that the characteristics of output currents in inverters mostly depend on filter performance, the exact analysis of filters by considering parasitic components is necessary for both harmonics attenuation and current control. LCL filters have three or four parasitic components: the series and/or parallel resistance of the filter capacitor and the series resistance of the two filter inductors. Most studies on LCL filters have focused on the parasitic components of the filter capacitor. Although several studies have addressed the parasitic components of the filter inductor at the inverter side, no study has yet investigated the concurrent effects of series resistance in both filter inductors in detail. This paper analyzes LCL filters by considering series resistance in both filter inductors; it proposes an active damping method based on the virtual series resistance of LCL filters. The performance of the proposed active damping is then verified through both simulation and experiment using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator(HILS).
This paper presents a development of the Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB) Algorithm for passenger vehicles. The AEB is the system to slow the vehicle and mitigate the severity of an impact when a rear end collision probability is increased. To mitigate a rear end collision, the AEB comprises of a millimeter wave radar sensor, CCD camera and vehicle parameters of which are processed to judge the likelihood of a collision occurring. The main controller of the AEB algorithm is composed of the two control stage: upper and lower level controller. By using the collected obstacle information, the upper level controller of the main controller decides the control mode based not only on parametric division, but also on physical collision capability. The lower level controller determines warning level and braking level to maintain the longitudinal safety. To decide the braking level, Last Ponit To Brake and Steer (LPTB/LPTS) are compared with current driving statues. To demonstrate the control performance of the proposed AEBS algorithm's, closed-loop simulation of the AEBS was conducted by using the Matlab simlink and CarSim software.

This paper proposes a new strategy to estimate the rotor flux of an induction machine for the direct field oriented control. Electrical model of the induction machine presents the basic idea based on observer structure, which is composed of voltage model and current model. But the former has the defects in low speed range, the latter has the defects of sensitivity to machine parameters. In spite of these shortcomings, the closed loop flux observer based on two models has been prevalent estimation method for the direct field oriented control. In this paper, generalized analysis method named "observer characteristic function method"is proposed to analyze the kinds of the linear flux observers in unified form. With the observer characteristic function, the estimated rotor flux error involved in the classical methods can be easily clarified. Moreover, the novel rotor flux observer based on this analysis is also presented and the effectiveness of the observer has been verified by the simulation and experimental results.

In this paper, a new construction for training simulator of R/C helicopter based on two types of servo controller is proposed. Two modified algorithms (algorithm I and II) for servo controller design are presented. Algorithm I is developed by adopting Davison's method in the case that the expressions for the homogeneous differential equations of reference input and disturbance are different types, and algorithm II is done by considering error weighting function for the servo controller of algorithm I . The linear fractional transformation method is incorporated in both design methods in order to assign the closed loop poles of the servo system in a specified region. The helicopter simulator is composed by the gimbals with two freedom of rolling and pitching. The reliability and validity for the design methods of the proposed servo controller are investigated through the practical experiment for the simulator by using 16bits micro-computer with A/D and D/A converters. It can be observered from the experimental results that the proposed servo controller is applicable to practical plants since the simulator is robust for the arbitrary disturbance and it follows to the given reference input without significant steady state error.

In this paper, we develop a simple but very effective 4 by 4 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna system for mobile phones consisting of different types of antennas to achieve low correlation property at the frequency ranges of 1710 to 2170 MHz, which covers wide LTE service bands, from band 1 to band 4. The proposed antenna system consists of two pair of antennas. Each pair consists of a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and a coupling antenna which has the property of the loop. The use of two different antenna types of IFA and a coupling achieves high isolation. Proposed antenna system occupies relatively small area and positions at the four corners of a printed circuit board. The gap between the two antennas is 4 mm, in order to realize the good isolation performance. To evaluate the performance of our proposed antenna system, we perform various experiments. The proposed antenna shows a wide operating bandwidth greater than 460 MHz with isolation between the feeding ports higher than 17.5-dB. It also shows that the proposed antenna has low Envelop Correlation Coefficient (ECC) values smaller than 0.08 over the all desired frequency tuning ranges.
The performance characteristics of a dynamic control system are evaluated according to the transient and steady-state responses. The transient performance is the controllability of the output for the tracking of the reference or the ability to reduce or reject the effects of unwanted disturbances; alternatively, the steady-state performance is represented by the magnitude of the control error at the steady state. As the effects of the two performances on each other are reciprocal, a controller design that shows a zero steady-state error for the ramp input is uncommon because of the challenge regarding the achievement of an acceptable transient response. This paper proposes a PI+double-integral controller for the elimination of the steady-state error for the ramp input while a sound transient performance is maintained. The control-gain design procedure is described by the second-order response for the step input and the response of the error dynamics for the ramp input. The PI+double-integral controller is designed for the first-order transfer function that is derived from a system identification with the open-loop experiment data of the dc-motor. The simple structure of the proposed controller enables the adoption of a low-end microcontroller for the implementation of a real-time control. The experiment results show that the control performance is as effective as that of the simulation analysis for the operating point of linear system; furthermore, the PI+double-integral controller can be conveniently applied to the control system, which is desirable for the improvement of the steady-state error.
Two types of track circuits are used in high speed railway car depots: one is High Voltage Impulse Track Circuit(HVITC); the other is AF track circuit. HVITC detects train occupation of blocks and broken rail; the AF track circuit is used for train onboard control system pretesting before departure. This testing is used to transmit train control information through the AF track circuit. The two systems are switched in turns for testing. We propose a system in which the AF track circuit is replaced by a loop cable that is installed on the inside rail; as such, engineers do not need to switch the systems. In cases in which the two systems run simultaneously, mutual interference may occur. In this paper, we identified this mutual interference by modeling of the two circuits.
Hybrid rotor position estimation methods that integrate a fundamental model and high frequency (HF) signal injection are widely used for the wide speed-range sensorless control of interior permanent-magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). However, the direct transition of two different schemes may lead to system fluctuations or system instability since two estimated rotor positions based on two different schemes are always unequal due to the effects of parameter variations, system delays and inverter nonlinearities. In order to avoid these problems, a seamless transition strategy to define and construct a virtual q-axis inductance is proposed in this paper. With the proposed seamless transition strategy, an estimated rotor position based on a fundamental model is forced to track that based on HF signal injection before the transition by adjusting the constructed virtual q-axis inductance. Meanwhile, considering that the virtual q-axis inductance changes with rotor position estimation errors, a new observer with a two-phase phase-locked loop (TP-PLL) is developed to accurately obtain the virtual q-axis inductance online. Furthermore, IPMSM sensorless control with maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operations can be tracked automatically by selecting the proper virtual q-axis inductance. Finally, experimental results obtained from an IPMSM demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed seamless transition strategy.
