  • When segmenting consumers according to their fashion adoption behavior, it has been assumed that consumers' fashion conformity and innovativeness characteritics are negatively correlated. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between conformity and innovativeness and that these two attributes exist independently. The research problems of this study were to segment consumers according to the degrees of conformity and innovativeness, and to identify differences in reference groups and clothing purchasing behavior among the segments. The results of the empirical study showed that the fashion conformity and innovativeness were in and innovativeness; High conformity/High innovativeness group(HC/HI), High conformity/Low innovativeness group (HC/LI), Low conformity/High innovativeness group(LC/HI?, and Low conformity/Low innovativeness group (LC/LI). When the groups were compared in their reference groups and purchasing behavior, it was found out that HC groups were more influenced by reference groups than LC groups. When HC/LI and HC/HI groups were compared, HC/LI group was more influenced by their parents and siblings, while HC/HI group was more influenced by upper class and celebrities. Both groups were mostly influenced by friends and desirable passengers on the street. Friends and passengers were most influential to LC groups also, even though they were less influenced than HC groups. In conclusion, the fashion conformity and innovativeness were found to exist in different dimensions consisting dual structure. Thus, retailers and marketers can make their strategies more successfully if they use these two characteristics separately when segmenting consumers.

  • Purpose - The overarching aim of this study is to empirically test the effect of ex-post control mechanisms on multi-dimensional trust and channel performance in franchise systems. Although the franchise system is a vertical marketing channel based on trust between the franchisor and the franchisees, issues related to franchisee's opportunistic behavior have persisted and thus requires research into the effective control system of franchise headquarters. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, data was collected from 150 franchises to identify the effect of two types of franchising headquarters' control system on the multi-dimensional trust and franchise channel outcome between franchisor and franchisee. To test the hypotheses intended to achieve this aim, structural equations modeling technique is utilized. Results - The results of this research reveal that among the two formal control systems studied (output and process control), output control positively and significantly affects multidimensional trust. Additionally, among the three dimensions of trust employed in this study, only expertise has a positive and significant effect on contract compliance. Equally, only expertise and integrity have a negative and significant effect on opportunistic behavior. Conclusions - The study provides managerial and theoretical insights into understanding ex-post control mechanisms, trust, compliance and opportunistic behaviors in franchise systems.

  • As a renewable nanomaterial, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) isolated from wood grants excellent mechanical properties in developing high performance nanocomposites. This study was undertaken to compare the reinforcing efficiency of two different CNCs, i.e., cellulose nanowhiskers (CNWs) and cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) from hardwood bleached kraft pulp (HW-BKP) as reinforcing agent in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based nanocomposite. The CNWs were isolated by sulfuric acid hydrolysis while the CNFs were isolated by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl radical (TEMPO)-mediated oxidation. Based on measurements using transmission electron microscopy, the individual CNWs were about $6.96{\pm}0.87nm$ wide and $178{\pm}55nm$ long, while CNFs were $7.07{\pm}0.99nm$ wide. The incorporation of CNWs and CNFs into the PVA matrix at 5% and 1% levels, respectively, resulted in the maximum tensile strength, indicating different efficiencies of these CNCs in the nanocomposites. Therefore, these results suggest a relationship between the reinforcing potential of CNCs and their physical characteristics, such as their morphology, dimensions, and aspect ratio.

  • The main aim of the paper is to provide an empirical analysis on patient satisfaction as an indicator of service quality in Malaysian public hospitals. Self-administered questionnaires were administered to patients by convenience sampling. Two sets of questionnaires were used, one for inpatient and another one set for outpatient. Selection of hospitals was made according to states in Peninsular Malaysia. 23 hospitals covering all state level hospitals, the National Referral Centre and selected district hospitals were chosen as respondent hospitals. Two dimensions of service quality emerged, namely clinical and physical dimension of service. Both outpatient and inpatient were found to be more satisfied with clinical dimension of service than physical dimension. For outpatient satisfaction, there was positive correlation between waiting time and patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction was also found to be higher in the smaller district hospitals than in the larger state hospitals. For clinical dimension of service, patients were satisfied with the services of doctors and nurses, while for physical dimension of service, patients were satisfied with the cleanliness of the facilities. The ability of the research to be conducted by random sampling was inhibited by the reluctance of patients to cooperate, which led to the use of convenience sampling. Studies have also shown that patients are reluctant to express their feelings on services provided by their caregivers. The study provides primary data for a nationwide study on patient satisfaction in Malaysian public hospitals, for both inpatient and outpatient.

  • This study is an experimental study about the relationship between EEG and personality dimensions. Subjects were 70 healthy undergraduate students (32 males, 38 females) The Korean version of Eysencks Personality Questionnaire-Revised (EPQ-R) were used. EEGs were recorded in two different conditions (eyes open and eyes closed). To obtain more tellable data, EEG recordings of subjects were replicated 6 weeks later. The analytical methods used in the present study rendered two coincident tendencies: Theta with neuroticism relationship in eyes closed condition, and alpha-delta with psychoticism relationship in eyes closed condition. These results generally support the theory of Robinson (2001) that delta, theta, and alpha waves are associated with activity of brainstem, limbic system, and thalamo-cortical arousal system, and that thalamo-cortical alpha system has inhibitory effects on brainstem delta system.

  • This paper presents vehicle road test of a semi-active suspension system equipped with continuously controllable magnetorheological(MR) dampers. As a first step, front and rear MR dampers are designed and manufactured based on the optimized damping force levels and mechanical dimensions required for a commercial middle-sized passenger vehicle. After experimentally evaluating dynamic characteristics of the MR dampers, the test vehicle is prepared for road test by integrating current suppliers, real-time data acquisition system and numerous sensors such as accelerometer and gyroscope. Subsequently, the manufactured four MR dampers(two for front parts and two for rear parts) are incorporated with the test vehicle and a skyhook control algorithm is formulated and realized in the data acquisition system. In order to emphasize practical aspect of the proposed MR suspension system, road tests are undertaken on proving grounds: bump and paved roads. The control responses are evaluated in both time and frequency domains by activating the MR dampers.

  • This paper presents an effective management of VM (Virtual Machine) for heterogeneous cloud using Common Deployment Model (CDM) brokering mechanism. The effective utilization of VM is achieved by means of task scheduling with VM placement technique. The placements of VM for the physical machine are analyzed with respect to execution time of the task. The idle time of the VMis utilized productively in order to improve the performance. The VMs are also scheduled to maintain the state of the current VM after the task completion. CDM based algorithm maintains two directories namely Active Directory (AD) and Passive Directory (PD). These directories maintain VM with proper configuration mapping of the physical machines to perform two operations namely VM migration and VM roll back. VM migration operation is performed from AD to PD whereas VM roll back operation is performed from PD to AD. The main objectives of the proposed algorithm is to manage the VM's idle time effectively and to maximize the utilization of resources at the data center. The VM placement and VM scheduling algorithms are analyzed in various dimensions of the cloud and the results are compared with iCanCloud model.

  • This study aims at examining the reduction of indoor air contaminants by plants placed in an indoor space. The effect of reducing the concentration of air contaminants by three species of plants was studied in a full-scale mock-up model. Field measurements were performed using Aglaonema brevispathum, Pachira aquatica and Ficus benjamiana which were verified as air-purifying plants by NASA. Their positions and amount were controlled. Two conditions for the amount of plants(10%, 5%) and positions(sun-shine, scatter) were used in two separate rooms whose dimensions are identical. The concentration of Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) was monitored three hours after the plants were placed and three days after the plants were placed. The variations of concentration of Benzene, Toluene, Etylbenzene, Xylene, Stylene and Formaldehyde, which are all known as the major elements of Volatile Organic Compounds were monitored. The more plants were used, the more a reduction of indoor air contaminants occurred. The effect of reducing the concentration of air contaminants increased when the amount of plants increased.
