A Review on Transfer Process of Two-dimensional Materials

  • Large-area two-dimensional (2D) materials synthesized by chemical vapor deposition on donor substrates are promising functional materials for conductors, semiconductors, and insulators in flexible and transparent devices. In most cases, 2D materials should be transferred from a donor substrate to a target substrate; however, 2D materials are prone to damage during the transfer process. The damages to 2D materials during transfer are caused by contamination, tearing, and chemical doping. For the commercialization of 2D materials, a damage-free, large-area, and productive transfer process is needed. However, a transfer process that meets all three requirements has yet to be developed. In this paper, we review the recent progress in the development of transfer processes for 2D materials, and discuss the principles, advantages, and limitations of each process. The future prospects of transfer processes are also discussed. To simplify the discussion, the transfer processes are classified into four categories: wet transfer, dry transfer, mechanical transfer, and electro-chemical transfer. Finally, the "roll-to-roll" and "roll-to-plate" dry transfer process is proposed as the most promising method for the commercialization of 2D materials. Moreover, for successful dry transfer of 2D materials, it is necessary to clearly understand the adhesion properties, viscoelastic behaviors, and mechanical deformation of the transfer film used as a medium in the transfer process.

중·저준위 방사성폐기물 천층처분시설 근계영역의 2차원 통합성능평가 모델 개발 (Development of Two-Dimensional Near-field Integrated Performance Assessment Model for Near-surface LILW Disposal)

  • 월성원자력환경센터 중저준위방사성폐기물 처분시설은 서로 다른 방식의 처분시설이 혼재하고, 월성 원자력발전소와도 인접해있다. 이와 같은 높은 복잡성으로 인해 처분시설 안전성 평가 시 보다 면밀한 현상이해가 필요하다. 기존 1단계 사일로 처분시설의 성능평가모델들에 포함된 불필요한 보수성을 줄이고 복합처분시설에 대한 보다 실제적인 성능을 파악하기 위해서는 다차원 수리/핵종이동 모델이 필요하다. 이와 함께 향후 복합처분시스템의 특성에 기인한 다양한 불확실성을 관리하고 파라미터의 중요도를 분석하기 위해 많은 계산이 필요할 것으로 예상하며, 이를 위해 보다 효율적인 성능평가 모델이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 두 요건을 충족시키기 위해 수리성능 모델과 핵종이동 모델을 연계한 2단계 천층처분시설의 근계영역 2차원 통합성능평가 모델을 개발하였다. 수리 및 핵종이동은 PORFLOW와 GoldSim 전산 코드를 이용해 평가하였으며, GoldSim 핵종이동 모델은 PORFLOW 핵종이동 모델과의 벤치마크를 통해 검증하였다. GoldSim 모델은 계산효율이 뛰어났으며 기존의 모델에 비해 핵종이동거동을 이해하는데 용이하였다.

철근콘크리트 파일캡의 해석 및 설계를 위한 개선 3차원 스트럿-타이 모델 (Refined 3-Dimensional Strut-Tie Models for Analysis and Design of Reinforced Concrete Pile Caps)

  • 철근콘크리트 파일캡의 설계 시 사용되고 있는 현행 설계기준의 단면법 및 스트럿-타이 모델 방법은 각각 B-영역으로 이루어진 철근콘크리트 구조부재의 거동과 2차원 응력교란영역을 갖는 철근콘크리트 구조부재의 거동에 기초한 것으로, 이를 응력교란영역(D-영역)을 갖고 3차원 거동이 지배적인 철근콘크리트 파일캡의 설계에 적용하는 것은 적절하지 않다. 이 연구에서는 3축 응력을 받는 콘크리트 스트럿 및 절점영역의 강도특성과 철근이 배치되지 않은 인장영역에서의 콘크리트 타이의 하중저항능력 등을 반영하여 철근콘크리트 파일캡을 합리적으로 설계할 수 있는 개선 3차원 스트럿-타이 모델을 제안하였다. 파괴실험이 수행된 78개 철근콘크리트 파일캡 시험체의 극한강도를 현행 설계기준의 단면법 및 스트럿-타이 모델 방법, 그리고 이 연구의 개선 3차원 스트럿-타이 모델을 이용하여 평가하였으며, 그 결과의 비교분석을 통해 스트럿-타이 모델 방법 적용 시의 3차원 거동 및 하중전달 메커니즘을 묘사하기 위한 적절한 구성요소의 필요성과 이 연구에서 제안한 개선 3차원 스트럿-타이 모델의 타당성을 검증하였다.

Eulerian Particle Flamelet Modeling for Combustion Processes of Bluff-Body Stabilized Methanol-Air Turbulent Nonpremixed Flames

  • The present study is focused on the development of the RIF (Representative Interactive Flamelet) model which can overcome the shortcomings of conventional approach based on the steady flamelet library. Due to the ability for interactively describing the transient behaviors of local flame structures with CFD solver, the RIF model can effectively account for the detailed mechanisms of $NO_x$ formation including thermal NO path, prompt and nitrous $NO_x$ formation, and reburning process by hydrocarbon radical without any ad-hoc procedure. The flamelet time of RIFs within a stationary turbulent flame may be thought to be Lagrangian flight time. In context with the RIF approach, this study adopts the Eulerian Particle Flamelet Model (EPFM) with mutiple flamelets which can realistically account for the spatial inhomogeneity of scalar dissipation rate. In order to systematically evaluate the capability of Eulerian particle flamelet model to predict the precise flame structure and NO formation in the multi-dimensional elliptic flames, two methanol bluffbody flames with two different injection velocities are chosen as the validation cases. Numerical results suggest that the present EPFM model has the predicative capability to realistically capture the essential features of flame structure and $NO_x$ formation in the bluff-body stabilized flames.

회전익 끝와류의 초기 난류 구조에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Turbulence Structure of Tip Vortices Generated by a Rotor Blade at the Initial Wake Age)

  • The evolutionary structure of a tip vortex in the initial period have been investigated by the two-dimensional LDV system. Circumferential and axial components of mean velocities, their turbulences and Reynolds stresses were measured by the phase averaging technique at seven different wake ages within one revolution of the rotor. Core growth was also analyzed. It was resulted that circumferential velocity components showed a Rankine combined vortex shape and their circulation profiles viewed in the radial direction were close to the n = 2 model of Vatistas' algebraic formula, while axial velocity components seemed to have the Gaussian profiles In these measured ranges with the base width of three times of core radii. Peaks of circumferential velocities and core radii showed distinct asymmetric behaviors before the wake age of $150^{\circ}$ over inboard and outboard sides of the slipstream, but they became symmetric afterwards. Turbulence profiles which had two peaks Inside the core radii in the earlier wake age were also changed to single peaks after $150^{\circ}$. These trends imply that the tip vortex was barely mature at this wake age.

  • In the prestressed concrete structures, stresses are gradually redistributed with time due to the creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressed steel. In this study a numerical procedure and computer program is developed to analyze the behavior of prestressed concrete structures considering the time-dependent properties of material. It accounts for the aging, creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressed steel. The structural model uses two dimensional plane frame elements with three nodal degree of freedom and is analyzed based on the finite element method. Member cross section can consist of concrete, reinforcement and prestressing steel. Two different set of equations for the prediction of time-dependent material properties of concrete are presented, which are ACI, CEB-FIP. Analytical studies for different examples of prestressed concrete structures have been performed to demonstrated the capabilities and practical applicabilities of the developed program.

  • This paper develops a sensor based navigation method that utilizes fuzzy logic and the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory for mobile robot in uncertain environment. The proposed navigator consists of two behaviors: obstacle avoidance and goal seeking. To navigate reliably in the environment, we make a map building process before the robot finds a goal position and create a robust fuzzy controller. In this paper, the map is constructed on a two-dimensional occupancy grid. The sensor readings are fused into the map using D-S inference rule. Whenever the robot moves, it catches new information about the environment and replaces the old map with new one. With that process the robot can go wandering and finding the goal position. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified by a series of simulations. This paper deals with the fuzzy modeling for the complex and uncertain nonlinear systems, in which conventional and mathematical models may fail to give satisfactory results. Finally, we provide numerical examples to evaluate the feasibility and generality of the proposed method in this paper.

An investigation on tunnel deformation behavior of expressway tunnels

  • The magnitude and distribution of tunnel deformation were widely discussed topics in tunnel engineering. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element program was used for the analysis of various horseshoe-shaped opening expressway tunnels under different geologies. Two rock material models - Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown were executed in the process of analyses; and the results show that the magnitude and distribution of tunnel deformation were close by these two models. The tunnel deformation behaviors were relevant to many factors such as cross-sections and geological conditions; but the geology was the major factor to the normalized longitudinal deformation profile (LDP). If the time-dependent factors were neglected, the maximum displacements were located at the distance of 3 to 4 tunnel diameters behind the excavation face. The ratios of displacement at the excavation face to the maximum displacement were around 1/3 to 1/2. In general, the weaker the rock mass, the larger the ratio. The displacements in front of the excavation face were decreased with the increasement of distance. At the distance of 1.0 to 1.5 tunnel diameter, the displacements were reduced to one-tenth of the maximum displacement.

Structural behaviors of notched steel beams strengthened using CFRP strips

  • This paper presents the findings of experimental and numerical investigations on failure analysis and structural behavior of notched steel I-beams reinforced by bonded Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) plates under static load. To find solutions for preventing or delaying the failures, understanding the CFRP failure modes is beneficial. One non-strengthened control beam and four specimens with different deficiencies (one side and two sides) on flexural flanges in both experimental test and simulation were studied. Two additional notched beams were investigated just numerically. In the experimental test, four-point bending method with static gradual loading was employed. To simulate the specimens, ABAQUS software in full three dimensional (3D) case and non-linear analysis method was applied. The results show that the CFRP failure modes in strengthening of deficient steel I-beams include end-debonding, below point load debonding, splitting and delamination. Strengthening schedule is important to the occurrences and sequences of CFRP failure modes. Additionally, application of CFRP plates in the deficiency region prevents crack propagation and brittle failure.

  • This paper describes the nonlinear analyses of a 1:4 scale model of a prestressed concrete containment vessel (PCCV) using an axisymmetric model and a three-dimensional model. These two models are refined by comparison of the analysis results and with testing results. This paper is especially focused on the analysis of behavior under pressure and the temperature effects revealed using an axisymmetric model. The temperature-dependent degradation properties of concrete and steel are considered. Both geometric and material nonlinearities, including thermal effects, are also addressed in the analyses. The Menetrey and Willam (1995) concrete constitutive model with non-associated flow potential is adopted for this study. This study includes the results of the predicted thermal and mechanical behaviors of the PCCV subject to high temperature loading and internal pressure at the same time. To find the effect of high temperature accident conditions on the ultimate capacity of the liner plate, reinforcement, prestressing tendon and concrete, two kinds of analyses are performed: one for pressure only and the other for pressure with temperature. The results from the test on pressurization, analysis for pressure only, and analyses considering pressure with temperatures are compared with one another. The analysis results show that the temperature directly affects the behavior of the liner plate, but has little impact on the ultimate pressure capacity of the PCCV.
