This paper proposes a new gate drive circuit for high power IGBTs which can reduce the harmful effect of reverse recovery current at turn-on and actively suppress the overvoltage across the driven IGBT at turn-off without a snubber circuit. The turn-on scheme decreases the rising rate of the collector current by inereasing the input capacitance at turn-on transient when the gate-emitter voltage goes above threshold voltage. It results in soft transient of the reverse recovery current with no variation in turn-on delay time. The turn-off driving scheme has adaptive feature to the amplitude of collector current, so that the overvoltage can be limited much effectively at the fault collector current. Experimental results under various normal and fault conditions prove the effectiveness of the proposed circuit.
This study was undertaken to develop a traffic signal timing method for interconnected and semi-protected-left-turn intersections(the intersections which have left-turn signal but not exclusive left-turn lanes) on four-lane streets for energy saving and to computerize the method for the practical use. For this study, a probability model which could estimate the utilized time of the shared left-turn lane by through traffic during green period was developed based on field studies. The two left-turn treatments, leading and lagging left-turns, were tested for the intersections, and it can be concluded that the leading left-turn was more efficient for the normal urban streets on which through traffic is major traffic. Adopting the leading left-turn macro-models to estimate vehicular average delay and proportions of vehicles stopped at the intersections were developed. Using the two models as well as the idling fuel consumpution rate and the excess fuel consumption per stop-go speed change, a traffic signal timing method for the intersections for energy saving was developed and computerized. The method can be used for more than four-lane streets and for other measures of effectiveness such as minimum delay, minimum stop rates, etc.
PURPOSES : The goal of this study is to analyze the operational efficiencies of special roundabouts using simulated programs. METHODS : This study primarily focuses on comparing the delays and traffic flow disturbances occurring at special roundabouts. In this study, the operational efficiencies of 450 scenarios (5 roundabout types ${\times}$ traffic volumes ${\times}$ directional ratios ${\times}$ measures) are analyzed according to the corresponding delays and traffic flow disturbances using VISSIM and SSAM. RESULTS : The main results are as follows: 1) the Hamburger roundabouts are determined to yield the least common-type delays, 2) the amount of delays at Turbo and Flower roundabouts with respect to relatively increased right-turn-type delays, in addition to the amount of delays at the Left-turn slip-lane roundabout with respect to relatively increased left-turn-type delays, are found to be reduced as compared to the common-type delays. Lastly, common- and increased right-turn-type traffic flow disturbances at the Turbo roundabout and increased left-turn-type traffic flow disturbances at the Left-turn slip-lane roundabout are determined to be the most infrequent. CONCLUSIONS : This study comparatively analyzes five roundabout types: standard, Flower, Turbo, Hamburger, and Left-turn slip-lane. The effectiveness of roundabouts can increase according to given traffic volume, directional ratio, and measure of effectiveness.

In this paper. determination method of turn-off angle in the SRM drives is proposed to maintain the high torque at a any turn-on angle, which is realized by using selHuning control method, During the sampling time. a number of P pulses from encoder are checked by using one-chip microprocessor. and compared with pre-checked a number of pulses A After calculating difference between two data, the turn-off angle moves forward or backward direction by the self-tuning m method, As repeating such process, the optimal turn-off angle is determined and the maximum torque is maintained T Though experiments, it is observed that motor speed is almost maintained if turn-off angle is adjusted automatically by s selHuning method when turn-ηn angle is changed.
The primary objective of this study is to develop a reliable method for estimating the left turn capacity at the signalized intersection. This study is performed during periods of congestion. Multi left turn lane(bay lane and exclusive lane) approaches are examined. When more than one left turn lane exists, traffic volumes are not distributed equally over each lane. The fundamental approach taken in this study is measuring headways on left turn lanes with altering the bay length from 20m to 120m. Left turn lane is divided into 3 sub-sections in this study. These are SLP section(start-up lost time Period), SFP section(saturation flow period), LSP section(lane selection period). Saturation flow rates are evaluated for each sub section periods. As a results of analysis, it has been confirmed that the left turn capacity can be estimated by left turn bay length and effective green time for left turn. The left turn bay length adjustment factor is suggested in this study.
This paper deals with on the efficiency questions of the left-turn prohibit at an isolated intersection and a corridor with 5-phase signal system. Its objectives are three-fold ; (1) to analyze the efficiency of the left-turn prohibit with the use of an imaginary network, (2) to evaluate various factors under consideration in decision making on the left-turn prohibit, (3) to provide a framework for estimating and evaluating overall impacts of the left-turn prohibit in traffic network. the major findings using an imaginary network and computer packages such as MINUTP, TRANSYT-7F and STATGRAPH are followings. First, left-turn prohibit reduces cycle length by 33 seconds and delay time per vehicle by 36 seconds at an isolated intersection, and cycle length by 31 seconds and delay time per veicle by 43 seconds along a corridor. Second, total vehicle mile of travel and total travel time at an isolated intersection seem up to increase 38.85 miles(57.36km), 14.4 hour on the average, Regarding to a corridor, total vehicle mile of travel is increased by 50.14 miles(80.22km), but total travel time is decreased by129.9 hours. Third, the efficiency of left-turn prohibit are affected the following eight factors including left-turn volume(veh/hr) and ratio(%), average delay time per vehicle(sec/veh) and others. Finally, several simple and multiple regression models to evaluate the impacts on the left-turn prohibit are formulated from the above eight factors. It can be expected that these models will take an important role in decision-making of left-turn prohibit.

Through traffic utilization of left turn lane constitutes an unique traffic operation at an intersection. Consequently, due to the provision as of current practice, conventional methods which estimate traffic volume and intersection capacity by lane would not be valid for design of signal timings. Through traffic utilization factor of left turn lane is affected by left turn volume and signal timings. The primary purpose of this study is to compare the results from leading left turn green phasing scheme with those from previously studied lagging left turn green phasing scheme in terms of utilization factor and intersection capacity by various left turn volume and signal timings, and thereby optimum signal timing to maximize the capacity at given left turn volume. Leading left turn green phasing increases capacity by 10~15 % as compared with that for current lagging left turn green phasing scheme. The range of optimum cycle length for left turn volume about 150 vph is 180~200 second. This cycle length range and left turn interval are longer than those for the lagging left turn green phasing scheme.
This paper proposes a finite element method (FEM)-based model of an interior permanent magnet (IPM)-type BLDC motor having stator inter-turn faults. We also propose impedance modeling of the magnetic characteristics. By integrating the developed model with a current-controlled voltage source inverter (CCVSI) model, the distributed characteristics of an inter-turn fault operated by a six-switch inverter are investigated considering speed control. Moreover, this paper presents the flux density distribution and torque characteristics for analyzing the inter-turn fault of an IPM-type BLDC motor. Additionally, fault impedance is required to calculate the circulating current that causes magnetic distortion. Thus, this paper proposes a method for estimating the circulating current taking into account the voltage at the shorted turn and the rotating speed. The analysis data were verified experimentally.
In this paper, a novel turn signal indication scheme is proposed and implemented to handle the turn signal of a vehicle automatically. By adopting accelerometer for the motion recognition of vehicle's momentum, the proposed way could control and manage turn signals according to the moving direction of a car when a driver forgot handling turn signal lever. The designed control system is plugged into the motorbike and tested to demonstrate improved driver's safety suitable for ADAS.

Inter-turn short circuits can have significant effects on a generator and its performance. The Inter-turn short circuits sensor for synchronous generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a shorted- turn test was performed at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator and stim turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of Inter-turn short circuits for synchronous generator's field winding.
