Effects of Rapid Thermal Anneal on the Magnetoresistive Properties of Magnetic Tunnel Junction

  • The effect of rapid thermal anneal (RTA) has been investigated on the properties of an FeMn exchange-biased magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) using magnetoresistance and I-V measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) in an as-grown MTJ is found to be ∼27%, while the TMR in MTJs annealed by RTA increases with annealing temperature up to 300$\^{C}$, reaching ∼46%. A TEM image reveals a structural change in the interface of A1$_2$O$_3$layer for the MTJ annealed by RTA at 300$\^{C}$. The oxide barrier parameters are found to vary abruptly with annealing time within a few ten seconds. Our results demonstrate that the present RTA enhances the magnetoresistive properties of MTJs.

  • The purpose of this study was to contemplate the effectual waterproofing materials and construction methods for the restoration of underground infrastructures using precast arches(PC-Arch). Until now, there were no proper waterproofing guidelines for waterproofing precast arch tunnel when restoring cultural heritage or building underground infrastructures for noise control. Asphalt membrane sheets were commonly used, but the efficacy of waterproofing done on the precast segment was vulnerable. This study aims to examine the Synthetic Rubber Polymerised Gel(SRPG) proposed in ISO TR 16475, a guideline for the repair of water-leakages, and to demonstrate field applicability based on the waterproofing solution used on the road improvement project in front of Changgyeonggung Palace in Yulgok-ro, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Aerodynamic interaction between static vehicles and wind barriers on railway bridges exposed to crosswinds

  • Wind tunnel experiments are used to investigate the aerodynamic interactions between vehicles and wind barriers on a railway bridge. Wind barriers with four different heights (1.72 m, 2.05 m, 2.5 m and 2.95 m, full-scale) and three different porosities (0%, 30% and 40%) are studied to yield the aerodynamic coefficients of the vehicle and the wind barriers. The effects of the wind barriers on the aerodynamic coefficients of the vehicle are analyzed as well as the effects of the vehicle on the aerodynamic coefficients of the wind barriers. Finally, the relationship between the drag forces on the wind barriers and the aerodynamic coefficients of the vehicle are discussed. The results show that the wind barriers can significantly reduce the drag coefficients of the vehicle, but that porous wind barriers increase the lift forces on the vehicle. The windward vehicle will significantly reduce the drag coefficients of the porous wind barriers, but the windward and leeward vehicle will increase the drag coefficients of the solid wind barrier. The overturning moment coefficient is a linear function of the drag forces on the wind barriers if the full-scale height of the wind barriers $h{\leq}2.5m$ and the overturning moment coefficients $C_O{\geq}0$.
