  • Nuclear steam generator tubes have experienced wear degradation at tube support structure. Morphology of wear scar was analyzed by using eddy current signal. A burst test facility for steam generator tubes was established and tubes with 3 types of defects were tested. The burst test results show that the depth of wear scar is the main factor influencing the burst pressure of tubes, meanwhile, both the longitudinal length and the angle also have effect on the burst pressure. Based on test results, the burst pressure equation for wear degradation was proposed.

  • Chemical vapor deposition (CVD), ion beam sputtering (IBS) and sol-gel method were used to prepare TiO$_2$ thin films for degradation of hazardous organic compounds exemplified by 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The influence of supporting materials and coating methods on the photocatalytic activity of the TiO$_2$ thin films were also studied. TiO$_2$ thin films were coated onto various supporting materials including steel cloth (SS), copper cloth, quartz glass tube (QGT), and silica gel (SG). Results indicate that SS (37 μm)- TiO$_2$ thin film prepared by IBS method improves the photodegradation of 2-CP. Among all supporting materials studied, SS(37 μm) is found to be the best support.

  • This study explored social media use among 50 adolescents attending a public high school in a non-Western community. Adolescents participated in focus group interviews and completed a written self-report survey. Findings revealed that these teenagers use electronic communication forms such as phone texting and social networking sites to connect with friends and family. They show a preference for Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, do not engage in risky Internet behavior, and acknowledge both positive and negative aspects of electronic communication forms. In addition, their selection of electronic communication forms is dependent upon several factors that include the strength of the relationship and type of discourse exchange. For example, they reserve phone texting and cell use, which are more private communication mediums for family and friends. Electronic communication did not replace face-to-face interactions; rather it complemented and extended those interactions. Findings support existing literature on adolescent social media use and those shared with other collectivist cultural groups.

  • The metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method has been used to prepare TiO2 thin films for the degradation of hazardous organic compounds, such as 2-chlorophenol (2-CP). The effect of supporting materials and metal doping on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 thin films also has been studied. TiO2 thin films were coated onto various supporting materials, including stainless steel cloth(SS), quartz glass tube (QGT), and silica gel (SG). Transition metals, such as Pd(II), Pt(IV), Nd(III) and Fe(III), were doped onto TiO2 thin film. The results indicate that Nd(Ⅲ) doping improves the photodegradation of 2-CP. Among all supporting materials studied, SS(37 ${\mu}m)$ appears to be the best support. An optimal amount of doping material at 1.0 percent (w/w) of TiO2-substrate thin film gives the best photodegration of 2-CP.

  • Recent observational works have reported spiral wave patterns (SWPs) in sunspots, but there is a lack of samples to derive the physical properties. In this presentation, we suggest the automatic method to detect the SWPs in observational data and present their statistical properties. From our method, we find more than 1000 SWPs observed by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly onboard in the Solar Dynamic Observatory from 2013 to 2018. From our samples, more than half of the SWPs has the one spiral arm. The predominant oscillation period is 2 to 3 minutes. The rotating direction of the spiral arms does not depend on the latitude and the polarity of the sunspots. Our statistical results support the physical model suggested by Kang et al. (2019) that explain the generation of SWPs as the depth of the wave driving source and azimuthal modes in the straight vertical magnetic flux tube.

  • In this paper, frequencies of zigzag structure of carbon nanotubes isinvestigated based on Donnell shell theory. These tubes are wrapped with the ring supports in the axial direction. The fundamental frequency curves displayed in article show the dependence of vibrations attributes to zigzag single walled carbon nanotubes. Various zigzag indices are introduced against the variation of length to predict the vibration. Also, the influence of ring supports is sketched with proposed structure for frequency analysis. The frequencies of zigzag tube decreases as the length increases. It is observed that the frequencies decreases with ring support and have higher frequencies without ring. The problem is formulated using Partial Differential Equation. Three expressions of modal deformation displacement functions is used for the elimination of temporal variation to form the solution in the eigen from. For the stability of present study the results are compared with experimentally and numerically in the open text.

  • Recent advances in deep learning for speech and visual recognition have accelerated the development of multimodal speech recognition, yielding many innovative results. We introduce a Korean audiovisual speech recognition corpus. This dataset comprises approximately 150 h of manually transcribed and annotated audiovisual data supplemented with additional 2000 h of untranscribed videos collected from YouTube under the Creative Commons License. The dataset is intended to be freely accessible for unrestricted research purposes. Along with the corpus, we propose an open-source framework for automatic speech recognition (ASR) and audiovisual speech recognition (AVSR). We validate the effectiveness of the corpus with evaluations using state-of-the-art ASR and AVSR techniques, capitalizing on both pretrained models and fine-tuning processes. After fine-tuning, ASR and AVSR achieve character error rates of 11.1% and 18.9%, respectively. This error difference highlights the need for improvement in AVSR techniques. We expect that our corpus will be an instrumental resource to support improvements in AVSR.

  • Background The indications for surgical airway management in patients with Robin sequence (RS) and severe airway obstruction have not been well defined. While certain patients with RS clearly require surgical airway intervention and other patients just as clearly can be managed with conservative measures alone, a significant proportion of patients with RS present with a more confusing and ambiguous clinical course. The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical features and objective findings of patients with RS whose airways were successfully managed without surgical intervention. Methods The authors retrospectively reviewed the medical charts of infants with RS evaluated for potential surgical airway management between 1994 and 2014. Patients who were successfully managed without surgical intervention were included. Patient demographics, nutritional and respiratory status, laboratory values, and polysomnography (PSG) findings were recorded. Results Thirty-two infants met the inclusion criteria. The average hospital stay was 16.8 days (range, 5-70 days). Oxygen desaturation (<70% by pulse oximetry) occurred in the majority of patients and was managed with temporary oxygen supplementation by nasal cannula (59%) or endotracheal intubation (31%). Seventy-five percent of patients required a temporary nasogastric tube for nutritional support, and a gastrostomy tube placed was placed in 9%. All patients continued to gain weight following the implementation of these conservative measures. PSG data (n=26) demonstrated mild to moderate obstruction, a mean apneahypopnea index (AHI) of $19.2{\pm}5.3events/hour$, and an oxygen saturation level <90% during only 4% of the total sleep time. Conclusions Nonsurgical airway management was successful in patients who demonstrated consistent weight gain and mild to moderate obstruction on PSG, with a mean AHI of <20 events/hour.

  • Some essential components in nuclear power plants are periodically inspected using non-destructive examinations, for example ultrasonic, eddy current and radiographic examinations, in order to determine their integrity. These components include nuclear power plant items such as vessels, containments, piping systems, pumps, valves, tubes and core support structure. Steam generator tubes have an important safety role because they constitute one of the primary barriers between the radioactive and non-radioactive sides of the nuclear power plant. There is potential that if a tube bursts while a plant is operating, radioactivity from the primary coolant system could escape directly to the atmosphere. Therefore, in-service inspections are critical in maintaining steam generator tube integrity. In general, the eddy current testing is widely used for the inspection of steam generator tubes due to its high inspection speed and flaw detectability on non-magnetic tubes. However, it is not easy to analyze correctly eddy current signals because they are influenced by many factors. Therefore, the performance of eddy current data analysts for steam generator tubing should be demonstrated comprehensively. In Korea, the performance of steam generator tubing analysts has been demonstrated using the Qualified Data Analyst program. This paper describes the performance demonstration program for steam generator tubing analysts and its implementation results in Korea. The pass rate of domestic analysts for this program was 71.4%.

  • It was discovered in a Korean PWR that an extensive number of very short and shallow cracks in the SG tubes were undetectable by eddy current in-service-inspection because of the masking effect of sludge deposits. Axial stress corrosion cracks at the outside diameter of the steam generator tubes near the line contacts with the tube support plates are the major concern among the six identical Korean nuclear power plants having CE-type steam generators with Alloy 600 high temperature mill annealed tubes, HU3&4 and HB3~6. The tubes in HB3&4 have a less susceptible microstructure so that the onset of ODSCC was substantially delayed compared to HU3&4 whose tubes are most susceptible to ODSCC among the six units. The numbers of cracks detected by the eddy current inspection jumped drastically after the steam generators of HB4 were chemically cleaned. The purpose of the chemical cleaning was to mitigate stress corrosion cracking by removing the heavy sludge deposit, since a corrosive environment is formed in the occluded region under the sludge deposit. SGCC also enhances the detection capability of the eddy current inspection at the same time. Measurement of the size of each crack using the motorized rotating pancake coil probe indicated that the cracks in HB4 were shorter and substantially shallower than the cracks in HU3&4. It is believed that the cracks were shorter and shallower because the microstructure of the tubes in HB4 is less susceptible to ODSCC. It was readily understood from the size distribution of the cracks and the quantitative information available on the probability of detection that most cracks in HB4 had been undetected until the steam generators were chemically cleaned.
