Concrete Filled Steel Tube (CFT) system is advantageous because it increases the load-carrying capacity without increasing the size of column. However CFT system has many benefits, it is not applied to field generally because of its heavyweight and difficulty of concrete filling method. As a solution to these problems, we proposed concrete filled steel tube column with hollow made by factory-manufactured PC method. The hollow concrete filled steel tube system is expected to obtain the high strength and high capacity of deformation despite it is a lightweight. This study deals with mechanical properties, strength and deformation, of hollow concrete filled steel tube subjected to axial load. 9 specimens were tested to examine mechanical properties closely, and the following results were obtained: All specimens basically showed higher initial rigidity and maximum strength with increased concrete filling rate. And most specimens showed almost linear behavior until around 80% of maximum strength regardless of filling rate, it is estimated that the elastic range is up to a half of the maximum strength which is the yield strength level.
A concrete-filled tube is a concrete-filled steel tube structure. The steel tube confines the concrete to increase the compressive strength, and the concrete contains the buckling of the tube. CFT structures require a diaphragm to prevent buckling of steel at connections. An outer diaphragm has better concrete filling than a through diaphragm due to a large bore, but being larger than the through diagram, it has poorer constructability and cooperation with building equipment. In this study, a CFT structure that uses different types of diaphragms in its upper and lower connections to improve the concrete filling was tested and analyzed via the FEM program. The building structure had a floor slab that was unified with the upper diaphragm, so the outer diaphragm was placed at the upper bound. Moreover, the through diaphragm was placed at the lower connection to avoid obstruction from building equipment. The CFT structure with the improved concrete filling showed the same structural behavior as the CFT structure with the use of the same type of diaphragms at the upper and lower connections.

Recently, geotextile tube method can be widely applied to the river, costal and marine in the construction field, such as embankment, groin, breakwater, dyke structures and so on, in advanced countries of the world. And that has been constructed at the temporary road for incheon, ilsan-bridge construction and coast erosion protection in republic of korea. Geotextile tube is a tube shaped geotextile product and hydraulic pumping filled with dredged soils. In this paper, the numerical analysis was performed to investigate the behavior of geotextile tube with various properties of material character, shape condition, construction pressure and so on. Also, the field test was conducted in order to identify the construction ability of Samangum waterproof embankment using geotextile tube. According to the applied of field test, geotextile tube was 65 m long and 4.0 m diameter. Also, the permeability coefficient and ultimate tensile strength of geotextile tube is $1.6{\times}10^{-1}$ cm/sec and 205.26 kN/m, respectively. As a result of filed test, when filled, geotextile tube does not attain the same as its unfilled theoretical diameter, but may reach approximately of 55 percent of the theoretical diameter. At the time, geotextile tubes were 12.56 m in circumference and filled to a height of about 2.2 m. This paper presents case study on field application and behavior analysis of the saemangum waterproof embankment donggin 1 division construction using geotextile tube.
A nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) model is presented for simulating the behaviour of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (RACFST) beam-columns subjected to constant axial compressive load and cyclically increasing flexural loading. The FEA model was developed based on ABAQUS software package and a displacement-based approach was used. The proposed engineering stress versus engineering strain relationship of core concrete with the effect of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement ratio was adopted in the FEA model. The predicted results of the FEA model were compared with the experimental results of several RACFST as well as the corresponding concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) beam-columns under cyclic loading reported in the literature. The comparison results indicated that the proposed FEA model was capable of predicting the load versus deformation relationship, lateral bearing capacity and failure pattern of RACFST beam-columns with an acceptable accuracy. A parametric study was further carried out to investigate the effect of typical parameters on the mechanism of RACFST beam-columns subjected to cyclic loading.
This paper presents a numerical study of axially loaded concrete-filled steel tubular columns with "T" shaped cross section (CFTTS) based on the ABAQUS standard solver. Two types of columns with "T" shaped cross section, the common concrete-filled steel tubular columns with "T" shaped cross section (CCFTTS) and the double concrete-filled steel tubular columns with "T" shaped cross section (DCFTTS), are discussed. The failure modes, confining effects and load-displacement curves are analyzed. The numerical results indicate that both have the similar failure mode that the steel tubes are only outward buckling on all columns' faces. It is found that DCFTTS columns have higher axial capacities than CCFTTS ones duo to the steel tube of DCFTTS columns can plays more significant confining effect on concrete. A parametric study, including influence of tube thickness, concrete strength and friction coefficient of tube-concrete interface on the axial capacities is also carried out. Simplified formulae were also proposed based on this study.
In this study total of six buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) were manufactured using a square steel rod as a load-resisting core member and a hollow steel tube as restrainer to prevent global buckling of the core. The gap between the core and the tube was filled with steel rods as filler material. The performances of the proposed BRB from uniaxial and subassemblage tests were compared with those of the specimens filled with mortar. The test results showed that the performance of the BRB with discontinuous steel rods as filler material was not satisfactory, whereas the BRBs with continuous steel rods as filler material showed good performance when the external tubes were strong enough against buckling. It was observed that the buckling strength of the external tube of the BRBs filled with steel rods needs to be at least twice as high as that of the BRBs filled with mortar to ensure high cumulative plastic deformation of the BRB.
Proper material constitutive models for concrete-filled tube (CFT) columns of circular cross section and subjected to pure bending moment are proposed. These material models are implemented into the Abaqus finite element program and verified against experimental data. It has been shown that the steel tube does not provide good confining effect to the concrete core when the CFT columns is subjected to pure bending moment. When the diameter-to-thickness ratio of the CFT columns is small, the behavior of the CFT column is the same as the steel tube without a concrete core.

Laminate Design of a composite tube for a space telescope(Fig. 1) under hygrothermal load is studied. Carpet plots for laminate effective engineering constants are generated and used for selecting the best tube lay-ups satisfying the optomechanical requirements for a space telescope being dimensional1y stable under orbital thermal loading. Despace of the tubes constructed with the selected lay-ups are calculated with a Zig-Zag Triangular Element which accurately represents through thickness stress variations for laminated structures. The effects of moisture absorption when exposed to humidity environment and moisture desorption through outgassing on the dimensional stability are also investigated.
The use of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) in composite columns offers numerous structural benefits, and has received recent research attention. However, the information regarding the behavior of steel tube confined concrete (STCC) columns employing UHPC has been extremely limited. Thus, this paper presents an overview of previous experimental studies on circular STCC columns with taking into account various concrete strengths to point out their distinctive features. The effect of the confinement factor and the diameter to thickness ratio on both strength and ductility in circular STCC columns employing UHPC was investigated. The applicability of current design codes such as EC4, AISC, AIJ and some available analytical models for concrete confined by steel tube was also validated by the comparison of ultimate loads between the prediction and the test results of Schneider (2006) and Xiong (2012). To predict the stress-strain curves for confined UHPC in circular STCC stub columns, a simplified model was proposed and verified by the comparison with experimental stress-strain curves.
The main objective of the present paper is to study the effect of the yield criterion on the magnitude of the strain rate and plastic work rate intensity factors in axisymmetric flow of isotropic incompressible rigid perfectly plastic material by means of a problem permitting a closed-form solution. The boundary value problem consisting of the axisymmetric deformation of a plastic tube is solved. The outer surface of the tube contracts. The radius of the inner surface does not change. The material of the tube obeys quite a general yield criterion and its associated flow rule. The maximum friction law is assumed at the inner surface of the tube. Therefore, the velocity field is singular near this surface. In particular, the strain rate and plastic work rate intensity factors are derived from the solution. It is shown that the strain rate intensity factor does not depend on the yield criterion but the plastic work rate intensity factor does.
