Family Caregivers' Experiences Utilizing a Nursing Home for Their Elderly Family Members (장기요양 노인환자의 노인전문요양시설 입소를 결정한 돌봄제공자의 경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the experiences of the family caregivers using a nursing home for their elderly family members. Method: Participants for this study were 1 man and 9 women caregivers. Data was collected through in-depth interviews from October, 2005 to April, 2006 and analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Results: "Finding a way to live together" emerged as a core category and it reflected expanding consciousness allowing them to see each other in a more positive view. The basic social process of "finding a way to live together" includes 3 phases: 1) recognizing the problems, 2) finding solutions to the problems, and 3) accepting the changes in their surrounding. Lack of privacy, family troubles, extreme distress, and unavailable caregivers are reflected in the process of recognizing the problems. The process of finding solutions was making a decision, obtaining family agreement, choosing the best nursing home, and enduring the financial burden. Possible outcomes of the last phase include recovering peace of mind and continuing conflict. Conclusion: Findings from this study offer suggestions for developing a strategy to help not only the elderly but also the family caregivers.

  • The tunnel excavations are used for construction of common utility tunnel, electric tunnel, communication line tunnel, water supply and public sewerage pile line in urban area. The trench cut methods were mainly used in the past, but now, tunneling method is more being used. The tunnel excavation method like as NATM, Messer-Shield, Semi-Shield Methods are being applied to small section tunnel in Korea. The actual construction results of seme-shield method are increasing due to simplified construction process and reduced noise and vibration. And also this method is being used frequently in waterway tunnel and construction of prevention flooding recently. The seme-shield method design guideline is absence except for electric line tunnel construction in Korea, because of the semi-shield method was developed in Europe and Japan. In the prescriptive design, engineer's subjects are tending to intervene, because of absence of standard and specification for details. Therefore, Design and Construction Problems of Semi-Shield Method were described and construction trouble was introduced for exam. These problem and construction troubles have to be examined thoroughly in advance.

  • In the electric power industry, it is important that the supply of energy must be guaranteed. Many power utilities control and supervise the transmission line to avoid power failures. In case of underground tunnel, some troubles are reported in cable joint. To stabilize the power, it is needed to monitor the cable joint. Many researches of cable joint monitoring have been going on by partial discharge measurement and temperature measurement using optical cable. These methods need much cost to install and maintain, so it is only used in critical transmission line. In this research, we use wireless sensor technology, because of its low cost and easy installation. We develop the temperature monitoring system for cable joint. Temperature sensor is installed on the surface of cable joint and sends data to server through router node using wireless network. Generally Ad hoc routing is searched in wireless network. However, in this research, we design the static linear routing mechanism, which is suitable for electric power line monitoring and analyze the life time of the sensor node by measuring the amount of the battery consumption.

A Study on the Reduction Performance of Floor Impact Sound in Apartment Building (공동주택의 바닥충격음 저감성능에 관한 연구)

  • As a result of supply-oriented housing policy of Korea since the 1960s, the number of apartment housing units has increased up to six million as of the end of 2001 that is 55% of total housing units. Although the needs of placid living environment increases according to the enhancement of residents' living standard, most of construction firms as apartment suppliers plan and design apartment buildings to maximize the profit and give rise the residents' petitions and troubles about floor impact noise. In consequence, the floor impact noise becomes one of principal problems of living environment, and the government placed the obligation of installing the noise isolation materials between upper and lower floors in 2001 and controlling the floor impact noise lower than 60dB from the middle of 2004. In other to provide the fundamental research data to enhance the reduction performance of floor impact sound, in this paper, the factors that influence on the floor impact noise are derived from the survey of many research papers and the performance of various materials used as noise reduction objects are compared and surveyed with the factors in the experiments in field and laboratory.

De-blurring Algorithm for Performance Improvement of Searching a Moving Vehicle on Fisheye CCTV Image (어안렌즈사용 CCTV이미지에서 차량 정보 수집의 성능개선을 위한 디블러링 알고리즘)

  • When we are collecting traffic information on CCTV images, we have to install the detect zone in the image area during pan-tilt system is on duty. An automation of detect zone with pan-tilt system is not easy because of machine error. So the fisheye lens attached camera or convex mirror camera is needed for getting wide area images. In this situation some troubles are happened, that is a decreased system speed or image distortion. This distortion is caused by occlusion of angled ray as like trembled snapshot in digital camera. In this paper, we propose two methods of de-blurring to overcome distortion, the one is image segmentation by nonlinear diffusion equation and the other is deformation for some segmented area. As the results of doing de-blurring methods, the de-blurring image has 15 decibel increased PSNR and the detection rate of collecting traffic information is more than 5% increasing than in distorted images.

  • To apply HTS to AC devices, it is necessary that study theoretically and experimentally to analyze the AC losses. It should be investigated the theoretical mechanisms precede the actual experiments. Because the AC losses cause some complicated troubles in AC machines, we can design the machines properly. In this study, firstly we analyze the basic cause of AC losses by investigating the several loss factors, secondly measure the AC losses of HTS by using Magnetization. Technique and this results show that AC losses of HTS is tenuous than those of general materials used in power system. Consequently we can compare the actual results with the theoretical results. And we find that AC losses of HTS are related to the amplitude of external magnetic field and the frequency. Through this study, we find that it is possible to apply the results by Magnetization. Technique to the AC power system, to the design of AC machine, to design of HTS proper to the foretold AC losses.

  • Recently, the improvement of fuel economy and the reduction of exhaust smoke and NOx have been successfully achieved by supplying diesel engines with emulsified diesel oil with water particles. In the present paper, the difference between the combustion of injected emulsified fuel and that of diesel oil spray is clarified by means of taking high-speed and color photographs of the flames in the engine cylinder. As the results, the two kinds of fuels show different combustion behavior each other in the growth of initial flame and in the termination of combustion process in the cylinder. Then, suitable combustion chamber design for the use of emulsified fuel is discussed on the basis of experimental data for various distribution of spray in different kinds of piston cavities. Some methods of clearing troubles caused by emulsified fuel injection are also discussed on the basis of performance tests with a remodeling test engine.

A Study on Moldability by Using Fuzzy Logic Based Neural Network(FNN)

  • In order to predict the moldability of an injection molded part, a simulation of filling is needed. Short shot is one of the most frequent troubles encountered during injection molding process. The adjustment of process conditions is the most economic way to troubleshoot the problematic short shot in cost and time since the mold doesn't need to be modified at all. But it is difficult to adjust the process conditions appropriately in no times since it requires an empirical knowledge of injection molding. In this paper, the intelligent CAE system synergistically combines fuzzy-neural network(FNN) for heuristic knowledge with CAE programs for analytical knowledge. To evaluate the intelligent algorithms, a cellular phone flip has been chosen as a finite element model and filling analyses have been performed with a commercial CAE software. As the results, the intelligent CAE system drastically reduces the troubleshooting time of short shot in comparison with the expert's conventional way which is similar to the golden section search algorithm.

  • Tooth impaction make various problems which are pathologic changes, functional defect and esthetic troubles. Sometimes impacted tooth are extracted. But surgical exposure of impacted tooth and orthodontic forced eruption are usually used a lot to solve these problems. Impacted tooth for orthodontic treatment has two impacted patterns 1) Simple impaction outside alveolar bone covered soft tissue, 2) Fully impaction under alveloar bone. So I introduce way to exposure of impacted tooth for orthodontic treatment with various cases and literatures.

  • The paper gives an overview of the problems to be tackled nowadays by occupational health with regards to shift work as well as the main guidelines at organizational and medical levels on how to protect workers' health and well-being. Working time organization is becoming a key factor on account of new technologies, market globalization, economic competition, and extension of social services to general populations, all of which involve more and more people in continuous assistance and control of work processes over the 24 hours in a day. The large increase of epidemiological and clinical studies on this issue document the severity of this risk factor on human health and well being, at both social and psychophysical levels, starting from a disruption of biological circadian rhythms and sleep/wake cycle and ending in several psychosomatic troubles and disorders, likely also including cancer, and extending to impairment of performance efficiency as well as family and social life. Appropriate interventions on the organization of shift schedules according to ergonomic criteria and careful health surveillance and social support for shift workers are important preventive and corrective measures that allow people to keep working without significant health impairment.
