  • Anthracene derivatives, 9,10trimethylsilylanthr - acene(SA) and bis(2-phenylethynyl)trimethylsilyl anthracene(Si-BPEA) were synthesized and their emission properties were studied with UV and PL spectrometers. The PL maxima of anthracene, SA, bis(2-phenylethynyl)anthracene (BPEA), Si-BPEA were obtained at 401, 438, 475, 478nm, respectively. The electro-optical properties OLED devices made with these anthracene derivatives were discussed.

  • Transglycosylation reactions among methyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D-glycopyranosides and isomeric butyl alcohols or cyclohexanol took place in the presence of trimethylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TMSOTf) in dichloromethane. The extent of the reaction after 1 h and 24 h from mixing was determined by gas chromatography (GC). Anomerization of the substrate took place during the course of transglycosylation, which favors α anomer regardless of the anomeric configurations of the starting glycosides. Transglycosylation also favors the a anomer regardless of the steric bulkiness of the alcohol. tert-Butyl alcohol did not give any transglycosylation, suggesting the steric hindrance of approaching the bulky alcohol to the oxonium intermediate. A mechanism for the transglycosylation have been proposed.

  • The poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP) and silica-filled PTMSP membranes were prepared by casting from a toluene solution on porous polyetherimide (PEI). FT-IR spectrum, GPC and SEM pictures have been taken to characterize the membranes. The particle size of membrane decreases as silica content of the membrane increases from 23 to 60 wt%, and a uniform distribution of the silica is observed. The separation properties of the gas mixture (32 mol% $H_2$/ 68 mol% $N_2$) through the composite membranes were studies as a function of pressure and percentage of silica. Selectivity values of $H_2$/$N_2$ increased as the pressure of permeation cell and silica content of the membrane increased. The real separation factor($\alpha$), head separation factor($\beta$), and tail separation factor((equation omitted)) of PTMSP-PEI composite membrane were 2.28, 1.58, and 1.44 respectively at $\Delta$P 30 psi and $25^{\circ}C$. $\alpha$, $\beta$, and (equation omitted) of PTMSP-Silica-PEI composite membrane for 60 wt% silica were 3.34, 1.95, 1.72 at $\Delta$P 30 psi and $25^{\circ}C$.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the composition of Rehmannia glutinosa's essential oils with Rehmanniae Radix herbal acupuncture Methods : I obtained the essential oils of Rehmannia Radix by hydrodistillation extraction method and supercritical fluid extraction(SFE) method, and then I analyzed those by GC/MS(gas chromatography/mass spectrum). Results : 1. With GC(gas chromatography) and GC/MS(gas chromatography/mass spectrum) analysis. I identified 9 compounds in the Rehmanniae Radix's essential oil obtained through the SFE method. The main compounds were as follows : Hexachloroethane(2.24%), N-Butyl-benzenesulfonamide(2.05%), hexadecanoic acid(1.93%), hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester(3.49%), 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid(z,z)(2.70%), (9E)-9-Octadecenoic acid(6.14%), ethyl linoleate(4.43%), ethyl oleate(5.80%). 2. I failed to get Rehmanniae Radix's essential oil obtained through the hydrodistillation method. 3. With GC(gas chromatography) and GC/MS(gas chromatography/mass spectrum) analysis. I identified 4 compounds in the Rehmanniae Radix's essential oil obtained through the hydrodistillation method. The main compounds were as follows : Ethylbis(trimethylsilyl)amine(1.04%), 2-(Trimethylsiloxy)benzoic methyl ester(2.65%), Hexadecanoic acid trimethylsilyl ester(12.61%), octadecanoic acid, trimethylsilyl ester(6.28%). Conclusions : The substances by hydrodistillation method may not perfectly match with the substances by supercritical fluid extraction(SFE) method in essential oils extracted form Rehmanniae Radix. But, the main substances was assumed Hexadecanoic acid and octadecanoic acid.

  • The permeation properties of $O_2\;and\;N_2$ were measured for bromobisphenol A polysulfone(BPSf), bisphenol A trimethylsilylated polysulfone(TMSPSf) and their blend membrane to investigate the structure-properties relationships. BPSf shows relatively high permselectivity. It can be explained that the strong polarity of bromine in BPSf increases chain packing ability. In this case the distance of polymer chains is reduced by increasing of interchain interaction by induced dipole. TMSPSf shows relatively high permeability. The higher value of permeability coefficients for TMSPSf is due to the substitution of very bulky trimethylsilyl groups. The replacement of phenyl hydrogens of bisphenol A polysulfone(PSf) with trimethylsilyl groups results in higher fractional free volume(FFV). In this work, taking into account the complimentary features of BPSf and TMSPSf, BPSf/TMSPSf blend was prepared and the compatibility in mixing are examined. The BPSf/TMSPSf blend shows higher permeability than commercial PSf, with minimum loss of selectivity. The miscibility of the BPSf/TMSPSf blend is confirmed by the single glass transition temperature.
