  • PSf/D2EHPA/TBP/CNTs beads were prepared by immobilizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and two extractants, di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) and tributyl phosphate (TBP) on polysulfone (PSf). The prepared PSf/D2EHPA/TBP/CNTs beads were characterized by SEM, TGA, and FTIR. The removal rate of Sr(II) by PSf/D2EHPA/TBP/CNTs beads was well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The maximum removal capacity of Sr(II) obtained from Langmuir isotherm was found to be 5.52 mg/g. The results showed that the removal efficiency of Sr(II) by PSf/D2EHPA/CNTs beads prepared in this study was significantly improved compared to that of using PSf/D2EHPA/CNTs beads without TBP.

  • Human hair is a kind of fibrous keratin which has much cystine residues like wool fiber. It protects human head from the dangerous shock and is an organ to release heavy metals in human body. Recently, in many dyeing field there is a trend to utilize the natural dyes. Cochineal is a reddish natural mordant dye. When the cochineal is applied in human hair dyeing, it is expected that dyeing rate will be slow and wash fastness will be poor on account of large molecular weight relative to oxidative dyes. In this work, we investigated the effects of tributyl phosphate in hair dyeing with natural dye cochineal. Dyeability of hair increased significantly by adding tributyl phosphate in cochineal dyeing. Nevertheless the hair was slightly damaged during dyeing, the dyed hair showed a good wash fastness.

  • The separation of gallium and indium from the matrix elements such as zinc and other ions, especially form Fe(III) ion was studied for the determination of trace level of them in zinc ores and zinc blendes by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry(ICP-AES). Gallium and indium were extracted from the sample solution with a solvent of tributyl phosphate(TBP). The type and concentration of acid, interferences of other ions, the ratio of aqueous phase to organic phase, TBP concentration, sripping efficiency were optimized for the effective extraction. Gallium and indium were separated from other ions in the 5N hydrochloric acid solution of the samples by the extraction with 100% TBP. In this time, Fe(III) was reduced to Fe(II) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to prevent its coextraction prior to the main extraxtion. After stripped from organic phase by the back-extraction with 0.02N HCl, they were determined in the aqueous phase by ICP-AES. This method was known to be quantitative from the overall extraction of more than 95%.

  • The present study to develop a process for extracting nitric acid and gold from aqua regia leach solution using TBP(tributyl phosphate) was conducted. The pure aqua regia was used to investigate the extractive behavior of nitric acid depending on the concentration of extractant, concentration ratio of nitric and hydrochloric acid. The extraction rate of nitric acid and gold from the gold bearing aqua regia was also examined. The theoretical extraction number was verified by counter current using the number of operations and the phase ratio obtained from McCabe-Thiele diagram. Stripping experiments were carried out for continuous recovery of nitric acid and gold in loaded organic. Considering the effect of extraction acid and gold, the simulation showed that greater than 99.9% extraction of $103.0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ gold and 98.0% of $151.2g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ nitric acid could be attained in a two and three-stage counter-current extraction at an O/A phase ratio of 1:0.85. Distilled water and sodium thiosulfate were used as the nitric acid and gold stripping solution. The stripping rates were 99.5% and 92.0%, respectively. The study revealed that the recovery of nitric acid and gold from gold bearing aqua regia was a plausible approach through simultaneous extraction and continuous stripping of nitric acid and gold.

  • Tributyl phosphate(TBP) is used in solvent extraction process for radioactive waste. This compound may be degraded to dibutyl phosphate($DBP^-$), monobutyl phosphate($MBP^{2-}$) and ${PO_4}^{3-}$ by radioactive material. Amount of $DBP^-$ and $MBP^{2-}$ in TBP must be monitored because they production of these compounds means degradation of which leads to a decrease in the extraction yield. Retention behavior for $DBP^-$, $MBP^{2-}$, $F^-$, $Cl^-$, ${NO_2}^-$, ${NO_3}^-$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and ${PO_4}^{3-}$ are studied with AS4A-SC(Dionex) analytical column and $Na_2CO_3$/NaOH eluent by Ion chromatography. Optimum condition for these anions is 2 mM $Na_2CO_3$/1 mM NaOH eluent. All anions by this condition is well separated within 15min. Dynamic range is $10{\mu}g/mL$ - $100{\mu}g/mL$ for DBP and $5{\mu}g/mL$ - $50{\mu}g/mL$ for $MBP^{2-}$, respectively. The Detection limit for AS4A-SC are $1{\mu}g/mL$ for $DBP^-$ and $0.5{\mu}g/mL$ for $MBP^{2-}$ in this system with a $25{\mu}L$ sample loop.

  • Tributyl phyosphate(TBP) polypropylene glycol 4000(PPG-4000) and the mixture of two compounds were examined as a liquid membrane in a supported liquid membrane (SLM) to separate phenol from aqueous solution. The feed concentration of phenol was varied in a broad range from 500 mg/L to 5000 mg/L and different types of liquid membrane were prepared to elucidate their effects on separation of phenol. It was found that the modified PPG 4000 with TBP and toluene diisocyanate(TDI) might be used as a proper liquid membrane because the mass transfer rate examined with this membrane was higher than that through methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) which has been used as a conventional solvent in a solvent extraction process. The breakthrough pressure of the SLM is defined to be the pressure difference across the membrane at which the supported liquid membrane is not kept in the pores any more. it indicates how the SLM is stable., It was found that the breakthrough pressure of the modified PPG-4000 was much higher than those of typical organic solvents.

  • Hemicellulosic hydrolysates contain not only sugars but also several kinds of ethanol fermentation inhibitory substances such as carboxylic acids, furans and phenolic compounds. In this work, emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was chosen as a separation technology to remove the inhibitors. A basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate was composed of xylose as sugar, dilute sulfuric acid solution as solvent, and acetic acid as carboxylic acid, and furfural as furan derivative or p-hydroxybenzoic acid(HBA) as phenolic compound was added to the hydrolysate when necessary. Acetic acid and HBA as weak acid could be selectively removed from the hydrolysates in all the ELM systems considered here, but furfural as aldehyde was quite hard to remove. Also, when HBA was added to the basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate, both of acetic acid and HBA in the feed phase could be selectively removed up to 99% in an ELM system with tributyl phosphate as extractant.

  • Thermodynamic parameters for the hydrogen bonding between thiopropionamide(TPA) and proton donors such as triethylphosphine oxide(TEPO), triphenylphosphine oxide(TPPO), trimethylphosphate(TMP), and tributyl phosphate(TBP) in dilute carbon tetrachloride solution have been measured by near-IR spectroscopy. The νa + amide Ⅱ combination band of TPA has been resolved into two Lorentzian-Gaussian product components which have been identified with monomeric TPA and 1 : 1 hydrogen bonded complex. The equilibrium constants and thermodynamic parameters for the formation of 1 : 1 hydrogen bonded complex have been obtained by the analysis of concentration and temperature dependent spectra. The standard enthalpies for the 1 : 1 hydrogen bonded complex formation of TPA with TEPO, TPPO, TMP, and TBP in CCl4 have been found to be - 21.4, - 16.8, - 12.8, and - 12.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The results are explained by the inductive and steric effects of substituents.
