The aim of this study was to conduct a freshwater snail survey in Mae Lao agricultural basin to assess the diversity with a focus on habitat types and their larval trematode infections. Snails were collected and examined in 14 sites of Mae Lao agricultural basin from August 2016 to October 2017. A total of 1,688 snail individuals were collected and classified into 7 families, 8 genera, and 12 species. Snail diversity and habitat types were higher in rice paddies than irrigation canals and streams. The most abundant species was Bithynia siamensis siamensis, representing 54.6% of the sample. Three species of snails act as first intermediate host were found with cercarial infections. They were Filopaludina sumatrensis polygramma, B. s. siamensis, and Melanoides tuberculata. The cercariae were categorized into 7 types; echinostome, monostome, gymnocephalous, virgulate, parapleurolophocercous, pleurolophocercous and megalurous cercariae. Parapleurolophocercous cercariae constituted the most common type of cercariae recovered, contributing 41.2% of all infections in snails. Echinostome metacercariae infections were found in 6 snail species with 7.6% prevalence. In addition, the metacercaria of avian trematode, Thapariella sp. were found in Filopaludina spp. snails and B. funiculata with a prevalence of 0.5%. This is the first report for Thapariella metacercariae in the snail host, B. funiculata, and also confirmed that viviparid and bithyniid snails act as the second intermediate hosts of this trematode. This work will provide new information on the distribution and intermediate host of trematode in this area.
We investigated the effects of death and gametogenesis by infection of the trematode in the venus clam, Cyclina sinensis. The specimens of C. sinensis were collected monthly at the tidal flat of Kaehwado, Puan-gun and Sangpo aquafarms, Kochang-gun, Chollabuk-do, Korea, from June 1999 to May 2000. One species of a trematode, the metacercaria of Himasthla kusasigi Yamaguti, 1939 (Enchinistomatidae), was found in the venus clam, C. sinensis. Infection rates in Kaehwado area and Sangpo aquafarm were average 93% and 81%, respectively. Infection rates during the study period reached the maximum (100%) in September 1999 and March-April 2000 and showed the minimum (80%) in July in Kaehwado, while those in Sangpo aquafarm showed the maximum (99%) in January 2000 and the minimum (47%) in November 1999. The infection parts of the metacercaria of H. kusasigi in the venus clam were the visceral mass, gill, mantle including the foot. Their infection rates in Kaehwado area and Sangpo aquafarm were 76.7% and 81.3% in the visceral mass, 19.1% and 14.5% in the gill, and 5,1% and 4.2% in the mantle, respectively. Infection rates of H. kusasigi showed higher with the increase of the size of the clams. No abnormal characteristics in the various tissues by histological observations were found in the clams infected by the metacercaria of H. kusasigi because this clam is the second intermediate host.
An experiment was carried out in order to reveal the infection species of trematode and the infection demage in the marine bivalves. Metacercaria of Echinostomatidae were found in Mactra veneriformis, Cyclina sinensis and Solen strictus in the vicinity sea of Naecho-do, the estuary of the Keum River in the western coast of Korea. The metacercaria detected from Solen strictus were fed by Larus crassiostris, at 16 days after infection, the adult worm could be seceded. The metacercaria of Himasthla kusasigi were detected from Mactra veneriformis and Cyclina sinensis, their infection rates were 70.4% and 85.7% respectively. The partial infection rates with respect to the body parts were 40.4% and 77.3% in the foot, 17.0% and 12.4% in the gill, 12.6% and 10.3% in the mantle in order. The metacercaria of Acanthoparyphium were found from Solen strictus. The total infection rate was 63% and the partial infection rate was 63% and the partial infection rate was shown foot, mantle and gill in order. The adult worm ceded from Larus crassiostris was indentified as Acanthoparyphium tyosenensis Yamaguti, 1938 from view point of its physical characteristics. Therefore, Mactra veneriformis, Cyclina sinensis would be added as new intermediate hosts, and Echoinostoma decteded from Mactra sulcataria which was studied by author(1969) was revealed as larvae of Acanthoparyphium tyosenensis.
The present study was performed to analyze the infection status of trematode metacercariae in fishes caught from Chunamchosuchi (pond) located in Uichang-gun. Kyongsangnam-do. A total of 130 freshwater fish of 5 species was collected by a fish net and fish traps from November, 1995 to May, 1996. They were examined under a stereomicroscope after artificial digestion with pepsin-HCI solution. A total of 8 species or metacercaria, i. e. Clonorchis sinensis, Echinochnsnw japonicas, Cvathocotwle orientalis, Diplostomun sp.. Metorchis orientalis. Holostephcnw nipponicw, Exorchis oviformis and unidentified echinostome, was detected from them. The metacercariae of C. sinenesis were found in 8/20 (40.0%) Accnthorhodeus Qsmwsi, 20/20 (100%) Cutter breuiccudc, 31/45 (68.9) Cultriculus eigenmanni and 21/25 (84.0%) Pseunorasborc pronga, and the average number of metacercariae detected in each fish species were 1.9, 31.7. I5.3, and 73.0. From the above results, it was confirmed that fresh-water fishes from Chunamchosuchi (pond) were highly infected with metacercariae of avian trematode, i.e. C. orientolis, H. nipponicus. M. oui, entnlis, E. jcponicw and Diplostonum sp., and 4 species of fish. P. parvc, C. breuiccudn, C. eigenmnnni and A. asmussi, were infected with metacaecariae of C. sinensis.
In order to clarify infestation Pattern for the encysted larvae of digenetic trematodes from fresh-water fishes, this survey was carried out from March to September, 1983. A total of 380 fishes of 32 species wore collected with netting at the three reaches, upper, middle and lower in Mangyeong riverside area. After the fishes were dissected into small scraps, they were pressed under cover glass and examined-for the presence of those of digenetic trematodes with a microscope. The resillts obtailled were as follows; Out of a total of 380 knishes inspected, 320 fishes(84%) from 31 species were found positive with, digenetic trematode metacercariae; more than 10 species of the metacercariae Ivere detected in Pseuderasbora parva; .Gnnthepegen mtajimae, Microphysogokio yaluensis, Cultriculus eigenmanni and Gnnthopogon coreanus (more than 8 species) ; Aphyocypris chinensis (8 species) and etc. respectively. Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae were found positive from 93 fishes (25%) from 12 species and detection rates in other species of digenetic trematode metacercariae from various fishes were; Exorchis oviformis, 261 fisles (57%) from 28 species; Cyathocotyle criensalis, 47 fishcs (12%) from 12 species; Metorchis orientalis, 21 fishes (6%) from 12 species; Metagonimus yokogawai, 164 fishes (43%) from 26 species; Pseudesorchis major, 71 fishes (19%) from 18 species; Metacercaria haiegawai, 77 fishes (20%) from 25 species; Centrocestus armatus, 24 fishes (6%) from 7 species; Echinochasmus japonicus, 2 fishes (0.5%) from 2 species, and unidentified species, 34 fishes (9%) from 15 species respectively. The sums of average number of the encysted larvae of all species found in fish body/gram showed 83 in P.parva, Cobitis taenia (74.2), A. chinensis (28.5), Pseudoperilampus uyekii (26.6), G. majimae (19.6) and etc. respectively and the average peak number of each metacercaria in fish body/gram showed 21.7 C. sinensis, 245. ovifcrmis, 15, 3 M, crientalis and 6.1 5. japonicus in P. parva. 42.7 C. orientalis and 25.1 M. yohogawai in C. taenia; 8.3 C. armatus and 8.3 M. hasegawai in P. uyekii. 6.3 P. major in Carassius carassius, and 2.9 unidentified species in G, niajimae respectively.

In order to determine the current infection status of pond smelts, Hypomesus olidus, and other freshwater fishes with trematode metacercariae, a total of 4,861 pond smelts and 18 other freshwater fishes, collected from the Soyang and Uiam Lakes in Gangwon-do, the Unam Lake in Jeollabuk-do, the Jangseong Lake in Jeollanam-do, the Uirim-ji (lake) in Chungcheongbuk-do, and the Andong Lake in Gyeongsangbuk-do, were individually digested with 1 % pepsin-HCI and examined under a dissecting microscope. In all pond smelts caught from the 6 lakes, we were unable to detect any known human infectious trematode metacercariae in Korea. However, in other freshwater fishes, such as, Squalidus japonicus coreanus (Unam Lake), and Zacco platypus (Jangseong Lake) and Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis (Jangseong Lake), metacercariae of human-infecting trematodes, i.e., Clonorchis sinensis and Metagonimus sp. were detected, respectively.
A survey was performed to investigate the infection status of fishborne trematode (FBT) metacercariae in freshwater fish from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. A total of 307 freshwater fish of 31 species were collected from 5 administrative regions of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. They were examined by artificial digestion method from July 2003 to August 2004. No metacercariae were detected in fish from Fusui-xian. In fish from Mashan-xian and a market in Nanning, 3 species of metacercariae, Haplorchis taichui, Haplorchis pumilio, and Centrocestus formosanus, were mainly detected. Metacercariae (8 in number) of Clonorchis sinensis were found in 1 Chanodichthys dabryi purchased from a market in Nanning. In fish from Yangshuo, Metagonimus yokogawai metacercariae were detected from all 18 fish species examined. Total 13 C. sinensis metacercariae were found in 3 out of 10 Hemibarbus maculatus from Yangshuo. All7 Zacco platypus from Yangshuo were infected with 8-112 Echinochasmus perfoliatus metacercariae. In fish from Binyang-xian, H. pumilo metacercariae were mainly detected in all 5 fish species examined, and only 1 metacercaria of C. sinensis was found in a Hemiculter leucisculus. From the above results, it was confirmed that some species of freshwater fish play a role of second intermediate hosts for FBT in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. In particular, 4 species of intestinal flukes, M. yokogawai, H. taichui, H. pumilio, and C. formosanus, were prevalent in fish hosts, whereas C.sinensis metacercariae were detected only in 3 fish species.
A survey was performed to investigate the infection status of zoonotic trematode (ZT) metacercariae in fish from a local market in Yangon City, Myanmar. A total of 264 fish (12 species) were collected through 4 times from December 2013 to June 2015. All collected fish were transferred to our laboratory on ice and examined by the artificial digestion method. More than 7 species of ZT metacercariae, i.e., Haplorchis taichui, H. pumilio, H. yokogawai, Centrocestus spp., Stellantchasmus falcatus, Pygidiopsis cambodiensis, and Procerovum sp. were detected. Metacercariae of H. taichui were collected in 58 (42.3%) out of 137 fish (5 species), and their average density was 42.9 per fish infected. Metacercariae of H. pumilio were detected in 96 (49.0%) out of 196 fish (9 species), and their average density was 23.6 per fish infected. H. yokogawai metacercariae were found in 40 (50.0%) out of 80 fish (5 species), and Centrocestus spp. metacercariae in 91 (50.8%) out of 179 fish (8 species), and their densities were 306 and 25.8 per fish infected, respectively. Metacercariae of S. falcatus and P. cambodiensis were detected only in mullets, Chelon macrolepis. A total of 280 Procerovum sp. metacercariae were found in 6 out of 12 climbing perch, Anabas testudineus. Morphological characteristics of adult flukes recovered from experimental animals were described. It has been first confirmed that fish from Yangon, Myanmar are commonly infected with various species of ZT metacercariae.

Present study was performed to survey infection status of digenetic trematode metacercariae in 2 alien fish species, Micropterus salmoides (largemouth bass) and Lepomis macrochirus (bluegill), in 2 rivers draining Chungcheongbuk-do, Republic of Korea. A total of 107 largemouth bass and 244 bluegills were caught in Daecheong-ho (ho=lake) and Musim-cheon (a branch of Geum-gang), in Chungcheongbuk-do April-July 2015. Additionally, 68 native fish of 5 species, i.e., Zacco platypus, Hemibarbus longirostris, Carassius auratus, Pseudogobio esocinus and Puntungia herzi, were caught from the same water bodies. All of the fish collected were examined by artificial digestion method. The metacercariae of Centrocestus armatus, Clinostomum complanatum, Metagonimus sp. and Diplostomum spp. were detected from 4 out of 5 native fish species in Daecheong-ho. However, any metacercariae were not found from 87 M. salmoides and 177 L. macrochirus in Daecheong-ho. In Musim-cheon, metacercariae of Exorchis oviformis and Metacercaria hasegawai were detected from 78% Z. platypus and 34% L. macrochirus, but any metacercariae not found in M. salmoides. We report here that the 2 alien fish species were less infected with the metacercariae than the native ones. Surveys on the metacercariae in the alien fish species in geographically various rivers should be undertaken for better understanding on the role of alien fish species in the trematode infections in Republic of Korea.
A small survey was performed to investigate the recent infection status of Clonorchis sinensis and other zoonotic trematode metacercariae in freshwater fish from a local market of Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province, northern Vietnam. A total of 118 fish in 7 species were examined by the artificial digestion method on March 2016. The metacercariae of 4 species of zoonotic trematodes, i.e., C. sinensis, Haplorchis pumilio, Haplorchis taichui, and Centrocestus formosanus, were detected. The metacercariae of C. sinensis were found in 62 (69.7%) out of 89 fish (5 species), and their intensity of infection was very high, 81.2 per fish infected. Prevalences of 3 intestinal flukes, H. pumilio, H. taichui and C. formosanus, were 75.0%, 47.6%, and 31.7% in positive fish species, respectively, with the metacercarial intensities of 15.5, 10.3, and 2.2 per fish infected. From the above results, it has been confirmed that various species of freshwater fish continue to play the role of the infection source of C. sinensis and other zoonotic trematodes in Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province, northern Vietnam. It is of particular note that the prevalence and intensity of C. sinensis metacercariae are much higher than those reported in previous studies in fish in northern Vietnam.
