  • We analyzed the phylogenic relationships of 23 partial 18S rDNA sequences of 22 species (1 species has 2 strains) belonging to Sarcorptiforms include 4 new sequences, using several tools. Although geographic distributions are quite far from, sequence similarity of two strains of Dermatophygoides pteronyssinus isolated from Japan and New Zealand were very high. This result suggests that mite migration by animals including human occurred in the two continents. We investigated the Endeostigmata taxonomic relationship between the Prostigmata and Oribatida subgroups using small fragments (340-400 bp) of their 185 rDNA sequences. But Endeostigmata was not grouped with Oribatida or Prostigmata. In conclusion, it is first reported phylogenic relationship for classified mites included in Sarcoptiformes using 185 rDNA sequence analysis and its system is a very powerful tool for classification of mites.

  • As most of the data configuration at distributed environment has a tree structure following the hierarchical classification, relative data retrieve is limited. Among these data, the data stored in a database has a problem in integration and efficient retrieve. Accordingly, we suggest the system that uses XMDR for distributed database integration and links XMDR to TopicMap for efficient retrieve of knowledge expressed hierarchically. We proposes a plan for efficient integration retrieve through using the XMDR which is composed of Meta Semantic Ontology, Instance Semantic Ontology and meta location, solves data heterogeneity and metadata heterogeneity problem and integrates them, and replaces the occurrence of the TopicMap with the Meta Location of the XMDR, which expresses the resource location of TopicMap by linking Meta Semantic Ontology and Instance Semantic Ontology of XMDR to the TopicMap.

  • Data mining techniques enable us to generate useful information for decision support from the data sources which are generated and accumulated in the process of routine organizational management activities. College administration system is a typical example that produces a warehouse of student records as each and every student enters a college and undertakes the curricular and extracurricular activities. So far, these data have been utilized to a very limited student service purposes, such as issuance of transcripts, graduation evaluation, GPA calculation, etc. In this paper, we utilize Holland career search test results, TOEIC score, course work list, and GPA score as the input for data mining and generation the student advisory information. Factor analysis, AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process), artificial neural net, and CART(Classification And Regression Tree) techniques are deployed in the data mining process. Since these data mining techniques are very powerful in processing and discovering useful knowledge and information from large scale student databases, we can expect a highly sophisticated student advisory knowledge and services which may not be obtained with the human student advice experts.

  • Objectives: Intake of fruits and vegetables has protective effects against stroke attack. This study intended to examine the status of consuming fruits and vegetables and to find out which factors may influence the frequency of consumption of fruits and vegetables in individuals with a history of stroke. Methods: The data of 208 subjects from 5th (2010, 2011) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES) who reported a stroke diagnosis was used for analysis. To identify major factors influencing the consumption of fruits and vegetables, a classification-tree analysis was carried out. Results: Among those who reported a stroke diagnosis, the frequencies of consumption of fruits and vegetables were influenced by their age, place of residence (urban or rural), economic status, educational level, occupation, number of family members, frequency of eating out, and having meals (breakfast or lunch) with family members. Two factors from fruits and three factors from vegetables were generated by exploratory factor analyses. Urban residents ate fruits and vegetables more frequently in all factors than rural residents. Eating frequencies of 'seasonal fruits (orange, apple, strawberry, melon, pear and watermelon)', 'easily-accessible fruits (persimmon, tangerine, grape, peach, banana)', and 'Western-style vegetables (cabbage, mushroom, carrot, tomato, spinach)' were influenced by the socioeconomic status. Eating frequencies of 'Korean-style vegetables (bean sprout, radish leaves, pumpkin/squash, sea weed)', 'preserved vegetables (Korean cabbage, radish, laver, cucumber)' were influenced by having breakfast with family members. Conclusions: The results of this study suggested that by eating more fruits and vegetables, more preventive effects against secondary stroke attack are expected in stroke patients who live in the rural areas and who do not eat breakfast with family members. In addition, more outreach and education programs are needed for them.

  • The weight of elderly people in Korea has been increasing. Statistics show that the percentage of the elderly people in Korea was 3.1% in 1970; 3.8% in 1980; 5.1% in 1990, and 7.2% in 2000. Based on this trend, thus, the number of elderly people could be estimated to be 14% of the whole Korean population in 2018. This reveals that Korea is entering a super-aging society with remarkable fast pace. In such a change, the statistics related to elderly people driving license and the occurrence of traffic accidents are showing a noticeable numerical value. The number of traffic accident fatality in Korea ranks the highest value in OECD Countries. However, the research on old drivers in the nation is going on partially centering on system improvement and management scheme. Thus, first of all, researches about the linkage & characteristics between the driving behavior of old drivers and traffic accident should be implemented, in order properly to draw system improvement and management scheme for the old drivers. Therefore, the focus of this study is the influence model for discerning the severity of the age-old-caused traffic accidents by inquiring into the relation between the Driving Aptitude Test items that make it possible to measure their behavioral characteristics and influential factors by age group on the basis of the data on traffic accidents. The analysis results can be used as basic data for suggesting the behavioral research and countermeasure for traffic safety and its management for old driver in preparation for the aging society.

  • This study was carried out to provide information on the taxonomic classification and analysis of mitochondrial genomes of Spirometra theileri. One strobila of S. theileri was collected from the intestine of an African leopard (Panthera pardus) in the Maswa Game Reserve, Tanzania. The complete mtDNA sequence of S. theileri was 13,685 bp encoding 36 genes including 12 protein genes, 22 tRNAs and 2 rRNAs with absence of atp8. Divergences of 12 protein-coding genes were as follow: 14.9% between S. theileri and S. erinaceieuropaei, 14.7% between S. theileri and S. decipiens, and 14.5% between S. theileri with S. ranarum. Divergences of 12 proteins of S. theileri and S. erinaceieuropaei ranged from 2.3% in cox1 to 15.7% in nad5, while S. theileri varied from S. decipiens and S. ranarum by 1.3% in cox1 to 15.7% in nad3. Phylogenetic relationship of S. theileri with eucestodes inferred using the maximum likelihood and Bayesian inferences exhibited identical tree topologies. A clade composed of S. decipiens and S. ranarum formed a sister species to S. erinaceieuropaei, and S. theileri formed a sister species to all species in this clade. Within the diphyllobothridean clade, Dibothriocephalus, Diphyllobothrium and Spirometra formed a monophyletic group, and sister genera were well supported.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a non-parametric productivity analysis tool, has become an accepted approach for assessing efficiency in a wide range of fields. Despite of its extensive applications, some features of DEA remain bothersome. For example DEA is good at estimating "relative" efficiency of a DMU(Decision Making Unit), it only tells us how well we are doing compared with our peers but not compared with a "theoretical maximum." Thus, in order to measure efficiency of a new DMU, we have to develop entirely new DEA with the data of previously used DMUs. Also we cannot predict the efficiency level of the new DMU without another DEA analysis. We aim to show that DEA can be used to evaluate the efficiency of ports and suggest the methodology which overcomes the limitation of DEA through hybrid analysis utilizing DEA along with C5.0. We can generate classification rules C5.0 in order to classify any new Port without perturbing previously existing evaluation structures by proposed methodology.

  • In online communities, users use comments to exchange their opinions and feelings on various subjects. Communication based on comments is quick and convenient, but sometimes this light-weight characteristic makes users use impolite and aggressive words, which leads to an online conflict. Therefore, it is important to analyze and classify users according to their characteristics in order to predict and take action for this kind of troubles. In this paper, we present several quantitative measures for describing the structures of comments trees based on the assumption that the user characteristics be observed as a form of some structural feature in comment trees of articles in which they posted comments. We examine the distribution of the proposed measures over article posters and commenters, and in addition, we show the effectiveness of the presented structural features by conducting experiments to classify users who have received warnings of the administrator from benign users.

  • Watershed area can be submerged due to constructions and management of dams, and these change can impact not only on ecosystem and environment of river basin area but also on local climate. This study is conducted to construct and classify climate zones of Andong Dam watershed where the area is submerged due to the construction of the dam. By applying Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Getis-Ord $Gi^*$ statistics, three climate zones were classified for the result. Each zone was then analyzed and validated with climatic and geological features including topography, land cover, and forest type map. As a result of the analysis, there was a difference in temperature, elevation, precipitation and tree species distribution among the zones. Also, an analysis of land cover map showed that there were more agricultural land near Andong Reservoir. This study on the climatic classification is considered to be useful as the basis for decision-making or policy enforcement regarding ecosystem, environmental management or climate change response.
