  • The popularization of smartphones allows people to instantly get the information that they want, through mobile apps, including financial services, movies and public transportation reservations, games and shopping. Furthermore, leisure activities through overseas travel are increasing due to the improvement of the living standards of people. These increases in overseas travel and the use of mobile apps lead to the increased use of mobile travel apps when booking tour packages. Although there are many studies on the usability assessment and user interface improvement for mobile apps, studies on the usability assessment for mobile travel apps are limited. We tested the usability for mobile travel apps to present some suggestions for improvements so that anyone can purchase travel packages easily and simply. We selected the top three mobile travel apps on Rankey.com that have different UIs. The heuristic method was used to evaluate usability. We present a better UI to allow users to use the app functions more easily by analyzing user interaction, ease of learning, readability, efficiency, and satisfaction for the entire use.

  • In order to analyze travel mode choice behavior, behavioral models including logit model, based on revealed preference theory, have been using easily measurable variables such as individual socioeconomic characteristics and physical attributes of travel modes. But some recent attitudinal models of travel choice behavior have implied that the negligence of individual psychological variables and individual choice constraints in travel mode choice might preclude better prediction of individual travel mode choice behavior. In this context, this study was attempted to reconstruct an attitudinal model(AM), especially focused on the decision rules in travel mode choice decision making process, consistent with the conceptual framework relating individual attitude and choice constraints to choice behavior. And to evaluate the strengths of the AM to other comparative models(logit, linear-additive, conjunctive, lexicographic model) in predicting travel mode choice bebavior, an empirical study of the mode choice in work-trip to CBD in Seoul was performed. According to the results the percent of correct prediction(PCP) derived from the AM was higher than those derived from comparative models by at least 7 to 20% in predicting travel mode choice. But each model produced a different prediction accuracy depending on market segmentation by travel modal users, individual socioeconomic characteristics, transportation system characteristics, and satisfaction levels. The finding that different groups divided by a certain criterion employ different decision rules supports the necessity of developing a choice model such as the AM combining compensatory and noncompensatory decision rules, and suggests that a proposed transportation system management plan or policy may have different effects on each group.

For this, a total of 671 visitors to Hallyeohaesang National Park were recruited and field surveys were conducted three times in spring, summer, and fall from March to November 2017. The Hallyeohaesang national park's visitors were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire about visitor characteristics (ex: motivation of visiting, travel routes, travel time, and participating activities, etc.) and satisfaction (ex: satisfaction with the visit, intention to revisit, and intention to recommend). SPSS 21.0 program was used for the statistical analysis: frequency analysis and independent-samples t-test analysis. As a result of analysis the motivation of visiting, those who visited only Hallyeohaesang National Park (a single destination) showed a mean value statistically significantly higher level in health improvement and vacation, relaxation, and healing compared to those who had visited or would visit other places along with Hallyeohaesang National Park (multi-destinations). Single destination visitors spent less time traveling from home to national park than multi-destinations visitors. Those who visited only Hallyeohaesang National Park (as a single destination) showed a mean value statistically higher satisfaction and intention to revisit and recommend. The results of this research have significance in providing basic materials to develop efficient park management policies by studying the characteristics of Hallyeohaesang National Park visitors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between service quality, destination image, and tourist satisfaction for foreign tourists visiting Korea, and in particular, to analyze the moderating effect of psychological power in the relationship. Research design, data, and methodology: A research model was derived through existing literature research and a survey was conducted on foreign tourists visiting Korea. Structural equation model of SPSS and AMOS24.0 were used for data analysis and hypothesis testing. Results: The tourism service quality affects the image of tourist attractions. Images of tourist attractions were found to affect tourism satisfaction. It was found that the lower the psychological power, the greater the effect on the relationship between service quality and image, and the relationship between image and satisfaction. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that service quality at travel destinations is a key factor in order to enhance the image and satisfaction of Korean tourist destinations for foreigners visiting Korea. On the other hand, since the image and satisfaction level of the tourism destination vary depending on personal factors such as psychological power, it suggests that travel industry workers or researchers should develop and operate services tailored to the individual characteristics of the tourists.

And they traveled with a small group, collected destination-related information before traveling, and showed a high level of satisfaction. Especially they had not only strong motivations for admiring, understanding, and experiencing the nature but also positive travel attitudes. Based on the results of a cluster analysis, the trekkers of Jirisan-round Trail were divided into two groups, ecotourists and nature tourists. The ecotourists group showed relatively enthusiastic participation, more nature-oriented and culturally sensitive travel attitudes, and a higher satisfaction. The results would be used for establishing effective management strategies for building environmentally and socially responsible trekking culture.

  • This study analyzes and examines the travel behavior of Chinese people in Korea through a questionnaire survey of Chinese people who are long-term residents in Korea using Xiaohongshu App (RED). In this study, we add some variables to the MTEs (Memorable Tourism Experiences) model to analyze the travel behavior of Chinese people who are in Korea for a long period of time. We also chose to survey the users of Xiaohongshu App (RED), a popular software in recent years, and found the following findings in 240 valid questionnaires: (1) Scenery, Entertainment, and Informativeness have positive effects on people sharing travel experiences, while interaction does not. (2) Sharing travel experiences had a positive effect on travel satisfaction and the intention to go to other destinations, and travel satisfaction had a positive effect on the intention to go to other destinations. This paper extends the literature on tourism by combining MTEs and UGC (User-Generated Content) models, and also provides relevant suggestions for further research on the travel behavior of foreigners in Korea.

  • Rapidly increasing aged population provides an ample market opportunity for the Korean travel industry, and from national policy perspective, it poses an fortified demands for welfare tourism. In the fierce competition, this emerging market can serve as a lucrative target market for tourism & travel industry in Korea. In addition, using tourism for the aged as a social welfare policy can be a potentially viable means to mitigate the increase social pressure due to rapid population aging. This rationale is based on the assumption that tourism contributes to higher level of perceived life satisfaction compared to other leisure activities among the aged. In this study, using empirical data collected from 185 respondents aged 55 and above in Cheong Ju area, the effect of demographic factors and trip-related behaviors on life satisfaction was tested. The results indicate that economic and health conditions affect life satisfaction positively, while trip-related behaviors did not exert any significant effect on life satisfaction. In light of the results, practical implications for marketing and policy-making were presented in detail.
