The transient vibration test and synchronized human excitation is performed for low-rise concrete buildings and their identified natural frequency, damping ratio, and mode shape are compared. Form the identified dynamic parameters, it was found that the damping ratio obtained through the synchronized human excitation test is greater than those obtained from the transient vibration test. However, the mode shapes of the first mode are not significantly different regardless of the test method. Further, the stiffness of the interior brick partition considerably affect the stiffness of the entire building such that the first natural mode of rectangular shaped building occurred in the longitudinal direction rather than transverse direction.
The free vibration characteristics of corrugated laminated composite plates with axial stiffeners is investigated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The plate is stiffened by beams with open cross-section area. The equivalent homogenization model is used for the corrugated laminated composite plates. This homogenization model is treated a corrugated plate as an orthotropic plate that has different material properties in two perpendicular directions. The motion of equivalent plate is represented on the basis of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to account for the effect of rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation. Stiffeners are considered as discrete elements to predict the local vibration mode to be generated by the presence of stiffeners. To validate the proposed analytical approach, natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes from the analytical method are compared with those from the FEA by ANSYS.

A 7K60MC-S low speed diesel engine in a power plant has frequently experienced high vibration since the unit completed construction works. Up to date, no fundamental vibration solutions were reached. Hence, several vibration tests and analyses were conducted to identify the root cause of this high vibration and to suggest the optimal countermeasures for diesel engine. The 9.25 Hz and 25.4 Hz vibrations have been observed on main body during operation. The magnitude of engine upper structural vibration is generally similar in horizontal transverse direction. However, differences in the 'Fore' and 'After' vibration magnitude with the same vibration phase angle at 9.25 Hz occur due to the explosion pulsations of 7 cylinders and the Inertia momentum added by the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) duct system. It was analyzed that the excess structural vibration occurred when the natural frequency of engine body is affected by the exciting sources due to the explosion pressure and the discharge pulsation of the seven cylinders in resonance range.

An analytical method for evaluating the free vibration of two circular plates coupled with water was developed by assuming the clamped boundary condition of the plates and an ideal fluid. The method was applied to analyze the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, and the results were compared to those obtained by the finite element method (FEM) using a commercial ANSYS 5.2 software. It was found that the theoretical results can predict well the coupled natural frequencies for all in-phase modes with good accuracy. However, the analytical method shows some discrepancies compared with FEM analysis in predicting the coupled natural frequency of the out-of-phase modes, except when m = 0, the zero nodal circle. The analytical method also applied to evaluate the characteristics of the natural frequency with respect to the major parametric variation in mode numbers and distance between the circular plates.
The transverse free vibration of chiral double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNTs) embedded in elastic medium is modeled by the non-local elasticity theory and Euler Bernoulli beam model. The governing equations are derived and the solutions of frequency are obtained. According to this study, the vibrational mode number, the small-scale coefficient, the Winkler parameter and chirality of double-walled carbon nanotube on the frequency ratio (xN) of the (DWCNTs) are studied and discussed. The new features of the vibration behavior of (DWCNTs) embedded in an elastic medium and the present solutions can be used for the static and dynamic analyses of double-walled carbon nanotubes.

An exact solution procedure is formulated for the free vibration and buckling analysis of rectangular plates having two opposite edges simply supported when these edges are subjected to linearly varying normal stresses. The other two edges may be clamped, simply supported or free, or they may be elastically supported. The transverse displacement (w) is assumed as sinusoidal in the direction of loading (x), and a power series is assumed in the lateral (y) direction (i.e., the method of Frobenius). Applying the boundary conditions yields the eigenvalue problem of finding the roots of a fourth order characteristic determinant. Care must be exercised to obtain adequate convergence for accurate vibration frequencies and buckling loads, as is demonstrated by two convergence tables. Some interesting and useful results for vibration frequencies and buckling loads, and their mode shapes, are presented for a variety of edge conditions and in-plane loadings, especially pure in-plane moments.
In order to investigate the effects of layer-wise in-plane displacements on vibration and damping characteristics of composite laminated plates, the finite element method based on the generalized laminated plate theory(GLPT) has been formulated. Specific damping capacity of each mode was obtained by modal strain energy method. To see the effect of transverse shear on deformation, the strain energy of stress components was computed. The accuracy of this study was examined for the cylindrical bending vibration of cross-ply plate strip. The results were very accurate compared with 3-D solutions. The numerical results show that through-thickness variation of in-plane displacements has not so much influence on the natural frequency, but has a great influence on the damping of composite plates, especially on the damping of thick composite plates since the damping is affected by local behavior while the natural frequency is affected by global behavior.

This paper present a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercially available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor $(k_p,\;k_{15})$ becomes effective rather than the transverse meed coupling factor $(k_{31})$. A single layer prototype transformer, 26[m] in diameter and 2.0[mm] thickness, was fabricated, such as step-up ratio, power transformation efficiency and temperature were measured.

In this study, analytical and experimental modal analyses of a scaled bridge model are carried out to extract the dynamic characteristics such as natural frequency, mode shapes and damping ratios. For this purpose, a scaled bridge model is constructed in laboratory conditions. Three dimensional finite element model of the bridge is constituted and dynamic characteristics are determined, analytically. To identify the dynamic characteristics experimentally; Experimental Modal Analyses (ambient and forced vibration tests) are conducted to the bridge model. In the ambient vibration tests, natural excitations are provided and the response of the bridge model is measured. Sensitivity accelerometers are placed to collect signals from the measurements. The signals collected from the tests are processed by Operational Modal Analysis; and the dynamic characteristics of the bridge model are estimated using Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods. In the forced vibration tests, excitation of the bridge model is induced by an impact hammer and the frequency response functions are obtained. From the finite element analyses, a total of 8 natural frequencies are attained between 28.33 and 313.5 Hz. Considering the first eight mode shapes, these modes can be classified into longitudinal, transverse and vertical modes. It is seen that the dynamic characteristics obtained from the ambient and forced vibration tests are close to each other. It can be stated that the both of Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition and Stochastic Subspace Identification methods are very useful to identify the dynamic characteristics of the bridge model. The first eight natural frequencies are obtained from experimental measurements between 25.00-299.5 Hz. In addition, the dynamic characteristics obtained from the finite element analyses have a good correlation with experimental frequencies and mode shapes. The MAC values obtained between 90-100% and 80-100% using experimental results and experimental-analytical results, respectively.
