  • In this paper, a double-excitation type single sheet tester is developed to measure the magnetic characteristics of the electrical steel sheets. The developed system has the uniform magnetic field area of 20$\times$20mm$^{2}$, and can be applied to the measurement of the magnetic characteristics of the Non-oriented and Grain oriented electrical steel sheets. In the developed system, the magnetic flux density and magnetic field intensity are measured by using B-coil and H-coil, respectively. The B-coil has 1 turn search coil for each direction, and H-coil has 640 and 640 turns for rolling direction and transverse direction on the Im thickness Glass-Epoxy basement, respectively. Through experiments, it Is shown that the system can measure the magnetic characteristics up to 1.87 of magnetic flux density in the rolling direction in case of the Grain oriented electrical steel sheet. The measured results are compared with those measured in Okayama university, .Japan.

  • Motor & generator operation at widely variable speeds is needed in various applications but hybrid and electric vehicle (HEV) stand out today, as quite a few companies are launching this year their mass production of HEVs. The quest for better starter-generators is far from ended, though. The present review paper unfolds a comparative critical evaluation of various starter-generators and their control for HEV. Induction, interior PM synchronous, transverse-flux PM synchronous, switched reluctance, together with claw-pole and biaxial excitation PM synchronous (BEGA) configurations with their control are all considered in system evaluations.

  • In this paper, Chaotic motions of a curved pipe conveying oscillatory flow are theoretically investigated. The nonlinear partial differential equation of motion is derived by Newton's method. The transformed nonlinear ordinary differential equation is a type of Hill's equation, which have the parametric and external excitation. Bifurcation curves of chaotic motion of the piping systems are obtained by applying Melnikov's method. Poincare maps numerically demonstrate theoretical results and show transverse homoclinic orbit of the chaotic motion.

  • The transient vibration test and synchronized human excitation is performed for low-rise concrete buildings and their identified natural frequency, damping ratio, and mode shape are compared. Form the identified dynamic parameters, it was found that the damping ratio obtained through the synchronized human excitation test is greater than those obtained from the transient vibration test. However, the mode shapes of the first mode are not significantly different regardless of the test method. Further, the stiffness of the interior brick partition considerably affect the stiffness of the entire building such that the first natural mode of rectangular shaped building occurred in the longitudinal direction rather than transverse direction.

  • Background: It is generally accepted that skeletal muscle contraction is triggered by nerve impulse and intracellular $Ca^{2+}\;([Ca^{2+}]_i)$ released from intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ stores such as sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). Specifically, this process, called excitation-contraction (E-C) coupling, takes place at intracellular junctions between the plasma membrane, the transverse (T) tubule L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel (dihydropyridine-sensitive L-rype $Ca^{2+}$ channel, DHPR, also called tetrads), and the SR $Ca^{2+}$ release channel (ryanodine-sensitive $Ca^{2+}$ release channel, RyR, also called feet) of internal $Ca^{2+}$ stores in skeletal muscle cells. Furthermore, it has been reported that the $Ca^{2+-}$ dependent and -independent contraction determine the expression of skeletal muscle genes, thus providing a mechanism for tightly coupling the extent of muscle contraction to regulation of muscle plasticity-related excitation-transcription (E-T) coupling. Purpose: Expression and activity of plasticity-associated enzymes in gastrocnemius muscle strips have not been well studied, however. Methods: Therefore, in this study the expression and phosphorylation of E-C and E-T coupling-related mediators such as protein kinases, ROS(reactive oxygen species)- and apoptosis-related substances, and others in gastrocnemius muscles from rats was examined. Results: I found that expression and activity of MAPKs (mitogen-activated protein kinases, ERK1/2, p38MAPK, and SAPK/JNK), apoptotic proteins (cleaved caspase-3, cytochrome c, Ref-1, Bad), small GTP-binding proteins (RhoA and Cdc42), actin-binding protein (cofilin), PKC (protein kinase C) and $Ca^{2+}$ channel (transient receptor potential channel 6, TRPC6) was observed in rat gastrocnemius muscle strips. Conclusion: These results suggest that MAPKs, ROS- and apoptosis-related enzymes, cytoskeleton-regulated proteins, and $Ca^{2+}$ channel may in part functionally import in E-C and E-T coupling from rat skeletal muscles.

  • Research on vibration of a vehicle with a transversely mounted 4-cylinder engine was performed using a vector synthesis method, Data of the engine vibration for the vector synthesis method was obtained experimentally and the data was ODS-fitted to calculate vibration level on any engine location assuming that the engine is rigid body in the frequency range of interest. In order to derive the excitation force on the vehicle body, the displacements were converted from the acceleration of engine. The transfer functions from engine mounts to toe pan on the floor were obtained experimentally. The vibration level on the toe pan was predicted by multiplying the excitation force by the transfer function. The predicted vibration level was compared with experimental data and the result was reasonable. Using the developed method, analysis was made for the effect of body fixture conditions of the vehicle when testing the engine vibration and for the effect of the transfer functions when the engine is installed or when the engine is removed. Finally the degree of contribution for 12 transfer paths was calculated.

  • Based on the fully nonlinear velocity potential theory, the liquid sloshing in a three dimensional tank under random excitation is studied. The governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear boundary conditions on the moving free surface is solved using the indirect desingularized boundary integral equation method (DBIEM). The fourth-order predictor-corrector Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme (ABM4) and mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method are used for the time-stepping integration of the free surface boundary conditions. A smoothing scheme, B-spline curve, is applied to both the longitudinal and transverse directions of the tank to eliminate the possible saw-tooth instabilities. When the tank is undergoing one dimensional regular motion of small amplitude, the calculated results are found to be in very good agreement with linear analytical solution. In the simulation, the normal standing waves, travelling waves and bores are observed. The extensive calculation has been made for the tank undergoing specified random oscillation. The nonlinear effect of random sloshing wave is studied and the effect of peak frequency used for the generation of random oscillation is investigated. It is found that, even as the peak value of spectrum for oscillation becomes smaller, the maximum wave elevation on the side wall becomes bigger when the peak frequency is closer to the natural frequency.

  • It is well known that Grain-oriented electrical steel sheets have two dimensional magnetic properties according to the direction of exciting field such as non-linear phase difference between magnetic flux density and magnetic field intensity vectors, different iron loss and permeability even when an alternating magnetic field is applied. The measurement and application of the two dimensional magnetic properties of the Grain-oriented electrical steel sheets, therefore, are very important for the design and precise performance analysis of electric machines made of them. As the direction of exciting field changes, in this paper, the two dimensional magnetic properties of a Grain-oriented electrical steel sheet, i.e., non-linear B-H curves, phase difference between B and H, and iron loss characteristics, are measured using SST(Single Sheet Tester) which has two axes excitation. The measured results are presented in two ways: using $(B,\theta_B)$ method and using hysteresis loops along rolling and transverse directions, respectively.

  • In this paper, using perturbation and Galerkin method, the response of a resonant viscoelastic microbeam to an electric actuation is obtained. The microbeam is under axial load and electrical load. It is assumed that midplane is stretched, when the beam is deflected. The equation of motion is derived using the Newton's second law. The viscoelastic model is taken to be the Kelvin-Voigt model. In the first section, the static deflection is obtained using the Galerkin method. Exact linear symmetric mode shape of a straight beam and its deflection function under constant transverse load are used as admissible functions. So, an analytical expression that describes the static deflection at all points is obtained. Comparing the result with previous research show that using deflection function as admissible function decreases the computation errors and previous calculations volume. In the second section, the response of a microbeam resonator system under primary and secondary resonance excitation has been obtained by analytical multiple scale perturbation method combined with the Galerkin method. It is shown, that a small amount of viscoelastic damping has an important effect and causes to decrease the maximum amplitude of response, and to shift the resonance frequency. Also, it shown, that an increase of the DC voltage, ratio of the air gap to the microbeam thickness, tensile axial load, would increase the effect of viscoelastic damping, and an increase of the compressive axial load would decrease the effect of viscoelastic damping.

  • The electric coupling between the lithosphere and the ionosphere is examined. The electric field is considered as a timevarying irregular vertical Coulomb field presumably produced on the Earth's surface before an earthquake within its epicentral zone by some micro-processes in the lithosphere. It is shown that the Fourier component of this electric field with a frequency of 500 Hz and a horizontal scale-size of 100 km produces in the nighttime ionosphere of high and middle latitudes a transverse electric field with a magnitude of ~20 mV/m if the peak value of the amplitude of this Fourier component is just 30 V/m. The time-varying vertical Coulomb field with a frequency of 500 Hz penetrates from the ground into the ionosphere by a factor of ${\sim}7{\times}10^5$ more efficient than a time independent vertical electrostatic field of the same scale size. The transverse electric field with amplitude of 20 mV/m will cause perturbations in the nighttime F region electron density through heating the F region plasma resulting in a reduction of the downward plasma flux from the protonosphere and an excitation of acoustic gravity waves.
