Simulation of transport phenomena in porous membrane evaporators using computational fluid dynamics

  • A numerical simulation of membrane evaporation process was carried out in this work. The aim of simulation is to describe transport of water through porous membranes applicable to the concentration of aqueous solutions. A three-dimensional mathematical model was developed which considers transport phenomena including mass, heat, and momentum transfer in membrane evaporation process. The equations of model were then solved numerically using finite element method. The results of simulation in terms of evaporation flux were compared with experimental data, and confirmed the accuracy of model. Moreover, profile of pressure, concentration, and heat flux were obtained and analyzed. The results revealed that developed 3D model is capable of predicting performance of membrane evaporators in concentration of aqueous solutions.

  • The Korean government has been working to reduce national logistics costs since the early 1990s. One of the major plans instituted by the government was to build five complex freight terminals using ICDs(inland container depots) as hub inland terminals. This paper explains the process and the methods adopted for site selection, with special focus on the Youngnam Freight Terminal. Among nineteen developable sites in Youngnam region, four candidates were selected based on the Map Overlay Approach under several criteria, including land acquisition costs, proximity to major highways and railroads, suitability of the terrain, etc. In this study, we used the AHP to select the best site among the four sites.

부산항 컨테이너 물류 시스템 분석에 관하여 (On the Analysis of Container Physical Distribution System in Pusan Port)

  • A Container terminal is a physical link between the ocean and land modes of transport and a major component of the container physical distribution system. A number of projects to increase terminal productivity in the world were found to be tied directly to increasing the efficiency of the intermodal activities, that is, to improving the physical distribution process. This is an indication that the productivity of container terminal is being considered withing a system prospective. The purpose of this study is to establish a model of the container physical distribution system for Pusan port linked with 4 sub-systems including Navigational aids system, Cargo handling/transfer/storage system on dock, Off-dock CY system and In-land transport connection system. and to analyze the system. From this analysis, we found that the system had three bottlenecks on the container physical distribution process in Pusan port : a) cargo handling b) storage and c) inland transport, and showed a way to improve the system.

  • Soil erosion due to climate change is one of the global environmental issues. Especially, Korea is vulnerable to soil erosion as the frequency of extreme rainfall events and rainfall intensity are increasing. Soil erosion causes various problems such as reduced farmlands, deterioration of water quality in rivers, etc. To these severe problems, understanding the process of soil erosion is the first process. Then, it is necessary to quantify and analyze soil ersoion using an erosion model. Soil erosion models are divided into empirical, conceptual, and physics-based models according to the structures and characteristics of models. This study used GSSHA (Gridded Surface Subsurface Hydrologic Analysis), the physics-based erosion model, running on WMS (Watershed Modeling System) to analyze soil erosion vulnerability of the CheonCheon watershed. In addition, we compared the six sediment transport capacity formulas provided in the model and evaluated the equations fir on this study site. Therefore, this result can be as a primary tool for soil conservation management.

통행분포/수단선택 통합모형 및 민감도분석 (Integrated Trip Distribution/Mode Choice Model and Sensitivity Analysis)

  • 통행분포(trip distribution)는 4단계 통행수요추정의 첫 단계인 통행발생(trip generation)에서 구해진 통행생성(trip production)과 통행 유인(trip attraction)을 연결시키는 작업이다. 즉 하나의 존에서 생성 또는 유인되는 통행량을 다른 존에 분포시키는 과정이다. 이에 반해, 통행수단선택(transport mode choice)은 통행자들이 어떤 교통수단을 선택할 것인지를 결정하는 단계이다. 그러나, 이들 통행분포단계와 통행수단선택단계는 서로 밀접한 관계가 있음에도 불구하고, 서로 독립적으로 수행되어온 경향이 있었다. 본 연구에서는 통행분포단계와 통행수단선택단계를 통합한 모형을 제시하고 이를 풀기 위한 알고리듬도 제시한다. 통합모형의 통행분포모형으로는 중력모형(gravity model)을 적용되며, 수단선택모형으로는 로짓모형(logit model)을 이용한다. 본 연구의 통합모형은 각 단계별로 개별적으로 진행되는 추정단계가 하나의 모형 틀 안에서 통합적으로 이루어져 좀 더 현실적이며, 통행비용의 불일치 문제가 해소될 수 있다. 또한, 통합모형에서도 균형조건(equilibrium condition)이 존재함을 증명하며, 통합모형의 민감도 분석을 통하여 기존 모형과의 차이점을 설명한다.

2018년 봄철 제주지역 고농도 PM2.5에 대한 배출량 및 물리·화학적 공정 기여도 분석 (Contributions of Emissions and Atmospheric Physical and Chemical Processes to High PM2.5 Concentrations on Jeju Island During Spring 2018)

  • In this study, the contributions of emissions (foreign and domestic) and atmospheric physical and chemical processes to PM2.5 concentrations were evaluated during a high PM2.5 episode (March 24-26, 2018) observed on the Jeju Island in the spring of 2018. These analyses were performed using the community multi-scale air quality (CMAQ) modeling system using the brute-force method and integrated process rate (IPR) analysis, respectively. The contributions of domestic emissions from South Korea (41-45%) to PM2.5 on the Jeju Island were lower than those (81-89%) of long-range transport (LRT) from China. The substantial contribution of LRT was also confirmed in conjunction with the air mass trajectory analysis, indicating that the frequency of airflow from China (58-62% of all trajectories) was higher than from other regions (28-32%) (e.g., South Korea). These results imply that compared to domestic emissions, emissions from China have a stronger impact than domestic emissions on the high PM2.5 concentrations in the study area. From the IPR analysis, horizontal transport contributed substantially to PM2.5 concentrations were dominant in most of the areas of the Jeju Island during the high PM2.5 episode, while the aerosol process and vertical transport in the southern areas largely contributed to higher PM2.5 concentrations.

강우시 철도성토사면의 열차운전규제기준에 관한 연구 (A Study on the rail-transport operation control for railway embankment under rainfall)

  • There are a close relationship between natural disasters and train safety. So it is very important to guaranty train safety using reasonable rail-transport operation control against disasters. Therefore, based on the past record of rainfall at failure, rail-transport operation control for railway embankment under rainfall was set up. After slope check list at home and abroad had been analyzed, new slope check list was suggested and site investigations were carried out using this check list. In order to evaluate the stability of railway slopes under rainfall, explanatory variables and subordinate variables were selected for multi-variate analysis and critical rainfall was defined by statistical process. Rail-transport operation control including regional and geological properties was suggested by analyzing the critical rainfall and rail-transport operation control in other country, and this will be a good tool to control train speed under rainfall and to secure train safety.

최적화된 전자 수송층을 활용한 완전한 용액공정 기반 녹색 유기발광다이오드 (Fully Solution-Processed Green Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using the Optimized Electron Transport Layers)

  • Solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have the advantages of low cost, fast fabrication, and large-area devices. However, most studies on solution-processed OLEDs have mainly focused on solution-processable hole transporting materials or emissive materials. Here, we report fully solution-processed green OLEDs including hole/electron transport layers and emissive layers. The electrical and optical properties of OLEDs based on solution-processed TPBi (2,2',2"-(1,3,5-Benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole)) as the electron transport layer were investigated with respect to the spin speed and the number of layers. The performance of OLEDs with solution-processed TPBi exhibits a power efficiency of 9.4 lm/W. We believe that the solution-processed electron transport layers can contribute to the development of efficient fully solution-processed multilayered OLEDs.

  • Olefin/paraffin separation by the facilitated transport membrane using silver salts as carriers has been considered as a promising alternative to the conventional energy intensive distillation process.   • Recently, as the infocomindustry is developed, the semiconductor industry as well as the optical industry such as the optical communication and the optical instrument is developed rapidly. The transmission, storage and processing of information has been reaching an limit because amounts of information increase rapidly. The more quickly the optical communication is developed, the more sharply the demand of optical elements increase. The transport and inspection process is time consuming and the error rate is high, because this process are not automated in case of an optical lens. In this paper, the pick-up system that can hold optical elements and be transferred by the ultrasonic transport system is developed. The inspection system that distinguishes between the existence and the nonexistence of a defect is connected easily to pick-up system. The pick-up system separates the optical glass lens by results of the inspection. The automation program is developed by visual c++ programming.
