  • Transparent and top emission organic light-emitting device (OLEDs) are the important issues in realizing new display applications such as see-through electronic displays, and flexible displays. The cathode of the transparent and top emission OLEDs should be transparent in the visible light and should not give any damage to the underlying organic layers, in addition to its intrinsic role of injecting electrons into the organic layers. Several authors have investigated the transparent conducting oxide films prepared by sputtering methods. They have introduced the sophisticated sputtering process for reducing the damages. Other groups have developed thermally evaporated transparent cathodes which are believed to be damage free without causing any permanent defect to the organic layers. This review focuses on the vacuum evaporated damage free transparent cathodes.

Transparent Conducting Ga-doped ZnO Thin Film for Flat-Panel Displays with a Sol-gel Spin Coating

  • A novel non-alkoxide sol-gel process for synthesizing Ga-doped ZnO thin film on glass was derived for possible use as a transparent electrode in flat-panel displays, using zinc acetate dehydrate as the starting material. The structural and electrical properties of thin films have been characterized as functions of Ga addition and post-heat-treatments. Their carrier density, Hall mobility, and optical transmittance were measured and discussed herein to explain the characteristics of the sol-gel-derived Ga-doped ZnO thin film on glass.

Transparent carbon nanotube field emission devices for field emission display and lamp

  • A simple new method to fabricate transparent carbon nanotube field emission devices was developed. The highly graphitized single wall carbon nanotubes were attached on Sn/ITO glass by arc discharge method. Post heat treatments below the deformation temperature of soda-lime glass guaranteed a good mechanical adhesion and electrical contact of the nanotubes. The Sn layer was oxidized below $400^{\circ}C$ and became transparent. As increasing the oxidation temperatures, the emission properties became stable and life time of emitter has been increased.

Effect of viscosity of paste and speed of printing on green transparent dielectric during screen printing process in PDP

  • To have cost down and get improved image quality and performance of plasma display panel, several factors have been developed including development of low price material and improvement in production for PDP front plate. In this work, viscosity and surface characteristics of transparent dielectric were investigated to find the optimum and low price materials fabrication condition of transparent dielectric paste. It was found that uniformity and transmissivity of green and fired dielectrics had some relationship with the kinds and content of binder, and solvent as well.

High-efficiency Organic Light-emitting Diodes(OLEDs) with optimized multilayer transparent electrodes

  • High-efficiency organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on multilayer transparent electrodes (MTEs) are reported. The dielectric/metal/dielectric (DMD) multilayer electrode based on a thin silver layer achieved high sheet conductance as small as $6{\Omega}/sp$ and a tuning capability in the optical and electrical properties by engineering the inner and outer dielectric layers. In the conventional normal bottom-emitting structure, a DMD-based OLED can be fabricated with 90% higher forward luminous efficiency and 30% higher external quantum efficiency (EQE) compared to ITO-based devices. Special attention was paid to the optimization method of such MTE structure considering both the injection and optical structures.

탄소나노튜브 위에 전도성 고분자가 코팅된 하이브리드형 투명전극의 특성 (Characteristics of Hybrid-type Transparent Electrodes Fabricated by Coating Carbon Nanotubes with Conductive Polymers)

  • Hybrid-type transparent electrodes were fabricated by depositing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via spray coating on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates and then coating the CNTs with [poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)] (PEDOT) films via electro-polymerization. For all of the fabricated electrodes, their surface morphologies, electric sheet resistances, visible transmittances, and color properties (e.g., yellowness) were characterized as functions of the applied voltages and process times used in electro-polymerization. The sheet resistance of the CNTs was significantly reduced by the coating of PEDOT, while their visible transmittances slightly decreased. The yellowness values of the PEDOT-coated CNTs were observed to have substantially decreased via electro-polymerization. The experimental results confirmed that the fabricated hybrid electrodes had desirable properties for the application of transparent electrode in terms of the electrical resistance, optical transmittance, and chromaticity.

  • In the recent years, much interests and attraction has been paid on the plasma display panel. To achieve high performance display panel, there has been a strong demands for studies on the transparent conducting films such as ITO and ZnO. In this study, we propose PDP cell with ZnO transparent conducting electrode. The electrical and optical characteristics of PDP cell with ZnO transparent electrode were studied and compared with that of conventional ITO electrode.

Effects of the Ag Layer Embedded in NIZO Layers as Transparent Conducting Electrodes for Liquid Crystal Displays

  • In the present work, a Ni-doped indium zinc oxide (NIZO) film and its multilayers with Ag layers were investigated as transparent conducting electrodes for liquid crystal display (LCD) applications, as a substitute for indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. By interposing the Ag layer between the NIZO layers, the loss of the optical transmittance occurred; however, the Ag layer brought enhancement of electrical sheet resistance to the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode. The twisted nematic cell based on the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode exhibited superior electro-optical characteristics than those based on single NIZO electrode and was competitive compared to those based on the conventional ITO electrode. An LCD-based NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode may allow new approaches to conventional ITO electrodes in display technology.

10 ${\mu}m$ 폴리이미드 기판에 성막된 플렉시블 투명 전도막용 Nitrocellulose/MWCNT 복합체의 제작 및 특성 (The Properties of the Nitrocellulose/MWCNT Composites Fabricated on the 10 ${\mu}m$ Polyimide Film for the Flexible Transparent Conduction Film)

  • The composite films were fabricated by air-spray method under the 2 kgf/$cm^2$ pressure using the multi-walled CNTs solution and the nitrocellulose on a 10 ${\mu}m$ polyimide film substrates. We obtained the composite films which were sprayed with the MWCNT dispersion by varying the spray time from 20, 40 and 60sec. The electrical and the optical properties of the sandwiched-structure-composite thin films were investigated by an UV/VIS spectrometer and a Hall Effect equipment. As a result, the optical transmittance of all thin films in the visible range, as well as the electrical conductance shows an available value for the transparent electrode. The carrier concentration and the light transmittance rate for the fabricated sample are between $3.733{\times}10^{10}$ and $6.551{\times}10^{14}cm^{-3}$, around 35 to 95%, respectively.
