A transmission line based bowed string model is built by analogizing a vibrating string to an electrical transmission line and implementing the calculation for the frictional bow-string force given by a digital bow into a circuit. The performance of the proposed model is demonstrated by showing that the velocity of the string at the bowing point from the proposed model is consistent with that from the finite difference form of the wave equation for a bowed string by the digital bow.
In this study, a robust controller to control pressure in a pneumatic pressure vessel considering dynamic characteristics of pneumatic transmission line is proposed. Dynamic characteristics of transmission line using compressible fluid is changed by the flowing states of the fluid. So, if the fixed gain controller is designed based on a fixed model, the performance of the control system could be destabilized or degraded. The controller designed in this study is composed of two parts. The one is to reject modelling error based on the disturbance observer, the other is to obtain the control performance. The control results with the designed controller show that the robustness of the control system is achieved regardless of the change of the model of the transmission line. Therefore, the designed controller can be utilized for the performance improvement of the pressure control system using compressible fluid such as air and gas

During the past 2 decades, many electric power companies have been searching various solutions in order to supply power with economical and more efficiency in the present transmission utilities. Most interesting method to increase the line capacity of overhead transmission lines without constructing any new line might be to adapt Dynamic Line Rating(DLR). Specified rating is normally determined by any current level, not by conductor temperature. Although specified rating is essential to design transmission line, dip may be the most important factor in limiting transmission capacity. Transmission lines built by the oldest dip criterion among the 3 different design criteria for conductor dip are nearly over one-half of all Kepco's transmission lines. This paper describes an up-rating method for those transmission lines in order to apply DLR technique. Based on limit dip conductor temperature and current of the transmission lines, limitation performance and effectiveness in applying DLR with weather model are analyzed. As a result of analysis, it can be shown that an improved method could be effectively used for increasing the line rating of old transmission line which was built by the design criterion with low dip margin.
A new method for simulating voltage and current distributions in transmission lines is described. It gives the time domain solution of the terminal voltage and current as well as their line distributions. This is achieved by treating voltage and current distributions as distributed state variables (DSVs) and turning the transmission line equation into an ordinary differential equation. Thus the transmission line is treated like other lumped dynamic components, such as capacitors. Using backward differentiation formulae for time discretization, the DSV transmission line component is converted to a simple time domain companion model, from which its local truncation error can be derived. As the voltage and current distributions get more complicated with time, a new piecewise exponential with controllable accuracy is invented. A segmentation algorithm is also devised so that the line is dynamically bisected to guarantee that the total piecewise exponential error is a small fraction of the local truncation error. Using this approach, the user can see the line voltage and current at any point and time freely without explicitly segmenting the line before starting the simulation.
This paper presents the new unified power flow controller(UPFC) load flow algorithm using UPFC transmission line constant model. The UPFC transmission line constant model represents a function of transmission line constant(G.B) UPFC's effect in power system. It can easily be incorporated in a load flow program. The algorithm is suited for monitoring the power system state as well as determining the magnitude and Phase angle of UPFC serial voltage source.

In this paper, the modeling and simulation of infrared absorption in an infrared absorbing structure with the cascaded transmission line model were carried out. Each layer in the infrared absorbing structure can be modeled as a characteristic impedance of the cascaded transmission line model. The simulation results show that the cavity thickness to get a maximum absorption should be less than a quarter wavelength, which is somewhat different from prevalent thickness. It can be assured that the sheet resistance of an absorbing layer to get a maximum absorption is $377{\Omega}/{\square}$, that the thickness of the absorbing layer dose not affect the spectral characteristics of absorption. It is also shown that the thickness of the active layer is not critical to the IR absorption. It can also be assured that the validation of this modeling is proved in comparison with the previous results from similar absorbing structures.
Observations from past strong earthquakes revealed that near-fault ground motions could lead to the failure, or even collapse of electricity transmission towers which are vital components of an overhead electric power delivery system. For assessing the performance and robustness, a high-fidelity three-dimension finite element model of a long span transmission tower-line system is established with the consideration of geometric nonlinearity and material nonlinearity. In the numerical model, the Tian-Ma-Qu material model is utilized to capture the nonlinear behaviours of structural members, and the cumulative damage D is defined as an index to identify the failure of members. Consequently, incremental dynamic analyses (IDAs) are conducted to study the collapse fragility, damage positions, collapse margin ratio (CMR) and dynamic robustness of the transmission towers by using twenty near-fault ground motions selected from PEER. Based on the bending and shear deformation of structures, the collapse mechanism of electricity transmission towers subjected to Chi-Chi earthquake is investigated. This research can serve as a reference for the performance of large span transmission tower line system subjected to near-fault ground motions.

To study and locate partial discharge(PD) and analyze the transient state of power transformer, there is a need for a high frequency model of transformer winding and calculation of its parameters. Due to the high frequency nature of partial discharge phenomenon, there is a need for an accurate model for this frequency range. To attain this goal, a Multi-Conductor Transmission Line (MTL) model is used in this paper for modeling this transformer winding. In order that the MTL model can properly simulate the transformer behavior within a frequency range it is required that its parameters be accurately calculated. In this paper, all the basic parameters of this model are calculated by the use of Finite Element Method (FEM) for a 20kV winding of a distribution transformer. The comparison of the results obtained from this model with the obtained shape of the waves by the application of PD pulse to the winding in laboratory environment shows the validity and accuracy of this model.

This paper illustrates a tie line constrained equivalent assisting generator (TEA G) model considering forced outage rates of transmission systems for reliability evaluation of interconnected power systems. Interconnections between power systems can provide improved levels of reliability. It is expected that the TEAG model developed in this paper will prove useful in the solution to problems related to the effect of transmission system uncertainties in the reliability evaluation of interconnected power systems. The characteristics and concept of this TEAG considering transmission systems are described in detail by sample studies on a simple test system.

A Verilog model is proposed for transmission lines to perform the all-Verilog simulation of high-speed chip-to-chip interface system, which reduces the simulation time by around 770 times compared to the mixed-mode simulation. The single-pulse response of transmission line in SPICE model is converted into that in Verilog model by converting the full-scale analog signal into an 11-bit digital code after uniform time sampling. The receiver waveform of transmission line is calculated by adding or subtracting the single-pulse response in Verilog model depending on the transmitting digital code values with appropriate time delay. The application of this work to a USB 2.0 high-speed PHY interface reduces the simulation time to less than three minutes with error less than 5% while the mixed-mode simulation takes more than two days for the same circuit.
