  • Virtual computer numerical control(VCNC) arises from the concept that one can experience pseudo-real machining with a computer-numerically-controlled(CNC) machine before actually cutting an object. To achieve accurate VCNC, it is important to determine abnormal behavior, such as chatter, before cutting. Detecting chatter requires an understanding of the dynamic cutting force model. In general, the cutting process is a closed loop system that consists of structural and cutting dynamics. Machining instability, namely chatter, results from the interaction between these two dynamics. Several previous reports have predicted stability for a single path, using a simple cutting force model without tool runout and penetration effects. This study considers both tool runout and penetration effects, using experimental modal analysis, to obtain more accurate predictions. The machining stability in the corner cut, which is a typical transient cut, was assessed from an evaluation of the cutting configurations at the corner.

  • In this paper, a methodology for optimal design of PID controller using the modified genetic algorithm has been proposed to improve the transient stability at system fault in HVDC transmission system, mathematical model preparation for stability analysis, and supplementary signal control by an optimal PID controller using the modified genetic algorithm(MGA). The propriety was verified through computer simulations regarding transient stability. It means that the application of MGA-PID controller in HVDC transmission system can contribute the propriety to the improvement of the transient stability in HVDC transmission system and the design of MGA-PID controller has been proved indispensible when applied to HVDC transmission system.

  • In this paper, a fast transient buck converter using hysteresis PWM control is presented. The proposed control method is based on hysteresis control of the capacitor C voltage. This offers a faster transient response to meet the challenges of the power supply requirements for fast dynamic input and load changes. It also provides better stability and solves the compensation problem of the error amplifier in conversional voltage PWM control. Finally, the steady-state and dynamic operation of the proposed control method are analyzed and verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • The conventional method of improving the transient stability in a power system is the use of reactive power compensation devices, such as the STATCOM and SVC. However, this traditional method cannot prevent the rapid voltage collapse brought about by the stalling of the motor due to a system fault. On the other hand, the ESS (Energy Storage System) provides fast-acting, flexible reactive and active power control. The fast-acting power compensation provided by an energy storage system plays a significant role in enhancing the transient stability after a major fault in the power system. In this paper, a method of enhancing the transient stability using an energy storage system is proposed for power systems including a dynamic load, such as a large motor. The effectiveness of the energy storage system compared to conventional devices in enhancing the transient stability of the power system is presented. The results of the simulations show that the simultaneous injection of active and reactive power can enhance the transient stability more effectively.

  • This paper proposes the fuzzy logic based variable step-size MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) method for the stability at the steady state and the improvement of the transient response in the wind power system. If the change value of duty ratio is set on stability of the steady state, MPPT control traces to maximum power point slowly. And if the change value is set on improvement of the transient response, the system output oscillates at the maximum power point. By adjusting the step size with fuzzy logic, it can be improved the MPPT response speed and stability at steady state when MPPT control is performed to track the maximum power point. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by simulations and experimental results.

  • Track jump control is a random access strategy for short distance movement. The most common track jump scheme is a bang-bang control of a kick and brake manner. In a conventional track jump scheme, a track-following compensator is turned off during kick and brake periods, and restarted at a target track for track pull-in. The inevitable controller switching with non-zero initial condition results in undesirable transient response, and excessive overshoot in the transient response causes track pull-in failure. In this paper, a new track jump scheme is proposed for enhancing track jump stability. Instead of control switching, internal states of a track-following controller are artificially manipulated for kick and brake actions in a digital control environment. Experimental results are provided in comparison with conventional track jumps.

  • We propose a robust adaptive fuzzy controller for the transient stability and voltage regulation of a single-machine inflnite bus power system. The proposed control scheme is based on the input-output linearization to eliminate the system nonlinearities. To deal with uncertainties due to a parameter variation or a fault, we introduce fuzzy systems with universal function approximating capability which estimate the uncertainties on-line.

  • In photovoltaic(PV) generator systems, DC-DC converters are significantly considered for control system performance in power quality point of view. This paper presents a novel adaptive control method for DC-DC converters applied in PV generator systems. First, we derive a state-space average model of the converter system and then propose a reset control methodology to enhance transient response performance for time-varying PV systems. For estimating parameters of a reset control, a gradient descent optimization is utilized and an adjustment rule of them are derived respectively. An objective of the optimization is that characteristic equation of an augmented system model which is formed with an converter system model and an reset control is to trace a predefined polynomial given as a reference characteristic model. Next, we accomplish stability analysis by means of a well-known Lyapunov theory for nonlinear converter systems including time-varying voltage excitation from a PV generator. Numerical simulation demonstrates reliability of our control methodology and its superiority by comparison to a traditional control strategy.

  • A Variable Structure Model Reference Adaptive Controller (VS-MRAC) using state Variables is proposed for single input multi output systems. . The structure of the switching functions is designed based on stability requirements, and global exponential stability is proved. Transient behavior is analyzed using sliding mode control and shows perfect model following at a finite time. The effect of input disturbances on stability and transients is investigated and shows preference to the conventional MRAC schemes with integral adaptation law. Sliding surfaces are independent of system parameters and therefore VS-MRAC is insensitive to system parameter variations. Simulation is presented to clear the theoretical results.
