Analysis of Coupled Horizontal-Torsional Vibrations of Container Ships (콘테이너선의 수평-비틂연성진동 해석)

  • A container ship, due to wide hatch openings, has characteristics of poor torsional rigidity, strong coupling of horizontal-torsional modes and significant discontinuity in the longitudinal variation of hull sections. In the mathematical formulation of the problem the hull is modeled as a beam and the transfer matrix method is utilized. The cross decks between cargo hatch opening are separated from the main hull and regarded as equivalent springs restraining torsion of hull. The effect of shear deformation of ship-side plating on torsion is taken into account in addition to St. Venant's and bending torsional rigidities. Compatibility requirements at cross section discontinuity are approximately considered. Developing the practical calculation procedure and the computer programs for application to an actual ship, some parametric studies on modeling methods of the cross deck, the compatibility condition, added-mass center etc. are out for the purpose of comparison.

  • 본 논문은 효율적인 명함 교환을 위하여 NFC를 활용하는 어플리케이션을 개발하였다. 기존의 오프라인 명함은 사용할 때 발생하는 제작비용과 보관상의 어려움이 있다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 개발한 프로젝트는 자신이 사용할 명함을 스마트폰에서 제작하고, 스마트폰에 기본적으로 탑재되어 있는 NFC 기능을 활용하여 명함을 교환하는 App이다. 사용자간 명함교환은 안드로이드 OS에 기본 탑재된 Android Beam 기능을 적용하였고 명함제작을 위해 스마트폰 카메라 또는 기존 사진 이미지를 활용할 수 있어 활용과 교환측면에 장점을 가져 활용성과 편의성이 용이하다.

Rib Effect of Deformation on Bond Strength (부착강도에 대한 이형철근의 마디형상 영향)

  • Bond between reinforcing bar and surrounding concrete is supposed to transfer load safely in the process of design of reinforced concrete structures. The effects of defomation properties on bond of reinforcing bars to concrete are studied. Beam-end tests are used to investigate the effects of machining of bars in addition to rib angle and relative rib area. The test results show that bond strength of machined bars were higher than the conventional bars produced in factory. Higher rib height bars with rib angle $30^{\circ}{\sim}60^{\circ}$ showed higher bond strength than lower rib height bars with low angle.

  • 레이저 빔 프린터의 인쇄 품질은 화상 인쇄 과정에 직접적으로 관계되는 OPC 드럼(Organic Photoconductive Drum) 및 PTB(Paper Transfer Belt)의 운전 속도 특성과 관계 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 그 관계가 정량적으로 연구된 바는 없었다. 본 논문에서는 인쇄 동작중인 OPC 드럼 및 PTB의 실제 속도를 측정하고, 속도 측정 결과에 나타나는 특성이 실제 인쇄 결과에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 분석한다. 또한 위의 속도 측정 및 분석 결과를 바탕으로 하여 레이저 빔 프린터의 인쇄 품질을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법을 제안하고, 실험을 통해 그 타당성을 검토한다. 제안 된 방법에의해 인쇄 품질의 정도(Accuracy)가 5배이상 개선됨을 확인하였다.

  • Currently, molecular devices are reported utilizing active self-assembled monolayers containing the nitro group as the active component, which has active redox centers[1]. We confirm the electrical properties of 4,4-di(ethynylphenyl)-2'-nitro-1-benzenethiolate. To deposit the SAM layer onto gold electrode, we transfer the prefabricated Au(111) substrates into a 1mM self-assembly molecules in THF solution. Au(111) substrates were prepared by ion beam sputtering method of gold onto the silicon wafer. As a result, we measured current-voltage curve using ultra high vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (UHV STM), I-V curve also clearly shows several current peaks between the negative bias region (-0.3958V) and the positive bias region (0.4658V), respectively.

  • 0.25 mm thickness super thin surface mounted device LED Lamp is developed with PCB type lead frame in which BT (Bismaleimide Triazine) resin is used. BT resin is removed by a laser beam in order to reduce the thermal resistance below $1\;^{\circ}C/W$ and transfer molding is used with silicone. Compared to conventional 0.4 mm thickness LED lamp, the developed LED lamp can be derived in high current and the luminance of the LED lamp is increased up to 240 mA.

  • The temperature variation at a laser rod center induced by high repetetion rate pumping was measured by counting the number of inteference frigne shift and found to be consistent with the theoretical value obtained from heat diffusion equation. The spatial homogeneity and energy transfer rate of flashlamp pumping by the single elliptical reflector plated with gold were evaluated by measuring interference fringes oever the cross section of a Nd:YAG laser rod.

  • Classical deconvolution methods for source identification following linear filtering can only be used if the transfer function of the system is known. For many practical situations, however, this information is not accessible and/or is time varying. The problem addressed here is that of reconstruction of the original input from only the measured signal. This is known as 'blind deconvolution'. By using Higher Order Statistics (HOS), the restoration of the input signal is established through the maximisation of higher order moments (cumulants) with respect to the characteristics of the signals concerned. This restoration is achieved by constructing an inverse filter considering the choice of the initial inverse filter type. As a practical application, an experimental verification is carried out for the restoration of our impacting signal arising in the response of a cantilever beam with an end stop when randomly excited.

  • Recently, the biolistic process is emerging as an effective needle-free drug delivery technique to transfer adequate concentrations of pharmacologic agents to soft living tissues with minimum side effects. We have started developing an effective method for delivering drug coated particles using laser ablation. A thin metal foil with deposited micro-particles on one side is irradiated with laser beam on the opposite side so that a shock wave is generated. This shock wave travels through the foil and is reflected, which causes and instantaneous deformation of the foil. Due to such a sudden deformation, the micro-particles are ejected at a very high speed. Here we present the experimental results of direct and confined laser ablation, which correspond to the initial stage of the whole experiment.

Simplified Numerical Load-transfer Finite Element Modelling of Tunnelling Effects on Piles

  • Tunnelling in urban environments is very common nowadays as large cities are expanding and transportation demands require the use of the underground space for creating extra capacity. Inevitably, any such new construction may have significant effects on existing nearby infrastructure and therefore relevant assessment of structural integrity and soil-structure interaction is required. Foundation piles can be rather sensitive to nearby tunnel construction and therefore their response needs to be evaluated carefully. Although detailed three-dimensional continuum finite element analysis can provide a wealth of information about this behaviour of piles, such analyses are generally very computationally demanding and may require a number of material and other model parameters to be properly calibrated. Therefore, relevant simplified approaches are used to provide a practical way for such an assessment. This paper presents a simple method where the pile is modelled with beam finite elements, pile-soil interaction is modelled with soil springs and tunnelling-induced displacements are introduced as an input boundary condition at the end of the soil springs. The performance of this approach is assessed through some examples of applications.
