  • Improvement of the radiation beam profile of a medical ultrasonic transducer has been researched in this paper. In order to improve the beam profile, a new transducer structure has been devised that includes both a shaded electrode and a multi-focus lens. For a linear sound source, the beam profile was investigated through finite element analysis, and then the optimal design of the devised structure was carried out by considering such performances as sidelobe level, focal range and beamwidth simultaneously. In the process, the optimal dimension of the devised structure was derived by using the ratio of the focal range to the minimum beamwidth as a performance index. As a result, the beam profile has been improved to have a lower sidelobe level at -20.2 dB and a consistent narrow beamwidth from 30 mm to 160 mm depth with the minimum beamwidth at 2.04 mm. Further, a prototype transducer was fabricated to have the devised structure, and its performance was measured and compared with the analysis results to confirm the validity of the devised transducer structure.

  • Magnetostrictive materials are routinely employed as actuator and sensor elements in a wide variety of noise and vibration control problems. In infrastructural applications, other technologies such as hydraulic actuation, piezoelectric materials and more recently, magnetorheological fluids, are being favored for actuation and sensing purposes. These technologies have reached a degree of technical maturity and in some cases, cost effectiveness, which justify their broad use in infrastructural applications. Advanced civil structures present new challenges in the areas of condition monitoring and repair, reliability, and high-authority actuation which motivate the need to explore new methods and materials recently developed in the areas of materials science and transducer design. This paper provides an overview of a class of materials that because of the large force, displacement, and energy conversion effciency that it can provide is being considered in a growing number of quasistatic and dynamic applications. Since magnetostriction involves a bidirectional energy exchange between magnetic and elastic states, magnetostrictive materials provide mechanisms both for actuation and sensing. This paper provides an overview of materials, methods and applications with the goal to inspire novel solutions based on magnetostrictive materials for the design and control of advanced infrastructural systems.

  • For optimal design of micro stage, we were measured to displacement of piezo-electric transducer that was based on voltage value. And then researchers were analyzed to microstage through FEM with displacement data including voltage value of piezo-electric transducer. For verification of analyzing results, we were gauged on displacement by using Laser-interferometer. And researchers were confirmed to propriety of micro stage design with FEM, were obtained error rate that are 3.5% between measurement results and analyzing results.

  • An electromagnetic induction transducer which radiates an implusive ultrasonic wave, could be useful for high power sound source in underwater acoustical survey. The aim of this study is to investigate the waveforms and the spectral characteristics of the waves produced by the transducer which was on the basis of the design criteria proposed by Eisenmenger. It was found that the sound pressure levels of the impulsive ultrasonic waves were directly proportional to the capacitance of the energy stored in the capacitor and inversely proportional to the thickness of the vibrating copper foil, while the center frequencies and the fractional bandwidths were vice versa.

  • This paper describes a design and application of middleware that is essential to the context-aware system. We define a transducer interface protocol in order to deal with a variety of context data. For the purpose of systematic process of data between middleware modules, a message oriented middleware is designed and implemented. Memory improves the performance of high-performance computing system compared to previous strategies. Context aware middleware adopts service oriented architecture so that functions in modules may be independent and scalability can be remarkable. Using messages across modules decreases the complexity of the application development. In order to justify the usefulness of the proposed context aware middleware, we carried out our experiments in bridge health monitoring system and verified the efficacy.

  • The use of a fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer (FFPI) as an optical current transducer is demonstrated. A conventional inductive pickup coil converts the time-varying current I(t) being measured to a voltage waveform V(t) applied across a piezeolectric strip to which the FFPI is bonded. The strip experiences a longitudinal expansion and contraction, resulting in an optical phase shift ${\phi}(t)$ in the fiber proportional to V(t). This phase shift is measured using a frequency-modulated semiconductor light source, photodiodes to monitor the reflected light from the FFPI and the laser power, and a digital signal processor. Calibration routines compute V(t) and I(t) from the measured phase shift at a l KHz rate. Response to 60 Hz ac over the design range 0-1300A rms is characterized Transient response of the FFPI transducer is also measured.

  • We constructed a class Ⅳ Flextensional transducer, and analyzed the effects of the variation in its material properties and structure on the resonance frequency of the transducer. We used the FEM for the analysis. Major axis length, minor axis length, thickness and material properties of the shell turned out to have large effects, while volume of the insert material, material properties and thickness of the ceramic bar have little. Thickness of the nodal-plate has no effect on the resonance frequency. Results of the present work can be utilized to design Class W Flextensional transducers of various resonance frequency.

  • Transducer for linear ultrasonic motor with symmetric and anti-symmetric modes was studied. The transducer was composed of two Langevin-type vibrators. In order to excite two vibration modes, Two Langevin-type vibrators must have 90-degree phase difference with each other. As result, tip of transducers moves in elliptical motion. In this paper, vibration shape of transducer was simulated and The resonant frequency and maximum displacement were calculated using the FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
