A total of 130 Chinese Meishan piglets were scored for their genotypes at five gene loci and five microsatellite loci. The average gene heterozygosity was 0.3338 and the average microsatellite heterozygosity was 0.2954, and the heterozygosity of the overall ten loci was 0.3146. The data of birth weight (BW) and body weight on day 35 (W35) were collected, average daily gain (ADG) for each individual was computed as the slope from the regression of weight on age. There was no significant correlation between individual heterozygosity and birth weight (p>0.05). Significant regressions were observed between ADG and the heterozygosity of loci (p<0.01). Similar results were observed in W35 and loci heterozygosity (p<0.01). Heterozygosity at these ten loci explained 43.62% of the total variation in ADG and 45.48% in W35. Significant correlations existed not only in the function of gene loci but also in neutral microsatellite loci, so it indicated that associative overdominance affected piglet growth significantly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influence health-related quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation. Methods: The subjects were 150 outpatients with atrial fibrillation who visited the cardiology clinic of a university hospital in U city. The instruments used for this study were Mhel Uncertainty in Illness Scale (MUIS), Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D), State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and the Short-Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) Korean version II. The date were analyzed by ANOVA, Pearson-correlation coefficient, and hierachial multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: The mean score of physical health-related quality of life (PCS) was $38.92{\pm}6.22$ and mental health-related quality of life (MCS) was $41.49{\pm}5.71$. Physical and Mental health-related quality of life had the significant correlations with uncertainty, anxiety and depression. In multiple regression analysis, physical health-related quality of life was significantly influenced by duration of disease, NYHA class, uncertainty. Mental health-related quality of life was significantly influenced by family income, NYHA class, anxiety and depression. Conclusion: These results suggest that these influencing factors should be consider in developing the nursing interventions to improve the healthrelated quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between mothers' bsex-role attitudes and child-rearing values of independence granting and pressure for achievement, and also to examine variations in mothers' attitudes by sex of child. The subjects of this study were 260 mothers of preschool girls and boys. They were middle and high SES class and highly educated. The 20 item version of the Feminism Scale (FEM Scale) was used to measure mothers 'attitudes toward women's sex-role ideology. The Korean Sex-Trait Stereotype Measure was used to measure the mothers' sex-perception of masculinity and feminity. The 5-item translated Barnett Independence Granting Scale was used to measure independence granting. The 7-item version of the Barnett Pressure for Achievement Scale was used to measure mothers' pressure on their children for achievement. Data analysis consisted of Pearson's Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient and t-test. The results were: 1. Mothers' nontraditional sex-role ideology was significantly related to lower mean age of independence granting and to pressure for achievement. 2. Two self-perception scores (self-masculine and self-feminine) were not related to mean age of independence granting but were significant1y related to pressure for achievement. 3. The mean age of independence granting was lower for sons than for daughters. 4. Mothers put more pressure for achievement on sons than on daughters.
Polygenic variation of sternopleural bristle number was investigated at the whole chromosome level in a natural population of Drosophila melanogasfer. Fifty pairs of second and third chromosomes were analyzed at $25^\circ{C}$. Since environmental factors such as temperature influence polygenic expression of quantitative traits, whole chromosomal effects of 28 pairs from the larger original sample were measured under cycling temperature, a $10-30\circ{C}$ cycle in 24 hours, to reveal any polygenic alleles whose effects might be masked under the constant temperature. While third chromosomes typically showed a larger contribution to polygenic variation in both environments, second chromosomes showed greater sensitivity to environmental changes. Cluster analyses of second and third chromosomes produced a limited number of clusters. Such a small number of cluster's implies that there may be a small number of genes, or quantitative trait loci (QTLs), having large effects on phenotypic variation. The genetic structure assessed under constant temperature, however, did not show any correlation with the structure under cycling temperature. The discrepancy could be caused by independent response of each polygenic allele to temperature changes. Thus, polygenic structure in natural populations should be thought of as a temporally changing profile of interactions between gene and ever-changing environment.
Heritabilities of growth traits, and phenotypic and genetic correlations for rearing masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou in adult stage were described. Genetic parameters were estimated for total length, body weight, and head length of masu salmon at 19 and 23 months of age. The heritabilities of growth traits estimated for sire component at 19 months of age was 0.22 in each trait in 1995, and ranged from 0.19 to 0.36 at 23 months of age in 1996. Phenotypic and genetic correlations were high among growth traits(0.85~0.98, 0.67~1.26, respectively). Family selection or that combined with individual selection is proposed to improve growth of masu salmon.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and the relationships among PMS, perfection, and anxiety in nursing college students and general college students. Methods: The questionnaire survey was carried out with a convenience sample of 215 college students. The MDQ (Menstrual Distress Questionnaire), APS-R (Almost Perfect Scale-Revised), STAI (State and Trait Anxiety Inventory) were used. The data were collected from June to October, 2011. Data analysis included frequency, $x^2$-test, t-test, and Pearson correlation. Results: There were significant differences in PMS and perfection but there not in anxiety between nursing college students and general college students. There were significant correlations among PMS, perfection and anxiety in nursing college students, and there were significant correlations among PMS and anxiety in general college students but not significant correlations among PMS and perfection. Conclusion: The findings suggest that to provide effective interventions for PMS in college students, it is necessary to design nursing interventions that consider perfection and anxiety.
The main purpose of this study was to explore the effect of the stress of hospitalization on the sleep pattern. Additionaly, this study was also to demonstrate how Johnson's nursing model may be applied to as nursing process. 104 hospitalized patients on surgical and medical wards were asked to rate 49 stress producing events associated with experience of hospitalization and sleep pattern scale. Five university hospitals were used as the setting for this study. Data for the study were collected by patient interview during hospitalization, self-reports and review of charts. For the analysis of the data, the pearson's correlation analysis of covariance and regression analysis were used. The results of this study were stated as follows; 1. The mean of the hospital stress scores was 111.261(S.D.=26.160). This means that the level of the hospitalization stress is high. The mean of the sleep pattern scores was 12.204(S.D. =2.615) This means that the characteristic's of the sleep pattern is poor. 2. The relationship between the hospitalization stress and sleep pattern was statistically significant at .01 level. 3. The effect of the hospitalization stress influenced strongly on the sleep pattern after sex, trait anxiety as covariates controlled. 4. The hospitalization stress revealed a 12% pre-diction as an influenced factor for the sleep pattern. Therefore, It can he said that the hospital stress did contribute significantly to the characteristics of the sleep pattern. Johnson's model can he also said that it is useful for the the assessment and diagnosis in nursing process.
Objectives : Morning Sickness, or Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy(NVP) is a frequently experienced phenomenon among pregnant women whose cause is still unknown. While the key trait of this symptom is its temporality, it is hardly considered in existing studies on the cause of NVP based on Korean Medical(KM) literature. We hope to remedy this. Methods : We looked for contents on fetal development in Korean Medical literature from the Siku Quanshu as well as other key literature of KM and examined the results together with contents on NVP to find any correlation. Results : We found that the beginning stages, namely the third month marked a significant change in the course of fetal development where the fetus's own Shen(神) is first developed by work of the mother's Heart(心). In other words, the third month is when the mother's and child's Shen first encounter. Conclusions : We hypothesized that NVP whose symptoms are closely linked to the functions of the Heart, is likely to be related to this event, which was supported by the common involvement of the Heart which was involved in both fetal development and NVP during the third month of pregnancy.
Objectives: The purpose of the present study is to analysis the trends of and issues in research about parentification in Korea up to date, and to propose directions for further studies. Methods: For this purpose, eighty one theses and articles about parentification, published from 2003 to 2015 were categorized according to research subjects, research objects, research methods, statistical analysis methods, and related variables with the parentification. Results: Consequently, first, the number of articles published has been gradually increased. Second, the main research subjects were the characteristics and trait of parentification, an interpersonal relationship and family. Third, the common research objects were undergraduate student/graduate student and youth(middle/high school students). Fourth, the quantitative research methods have been used mainly. FRS-A(Filial Responsibility Scale-Adult) and FRS-Y(Filial Responsibility Scale-Youth) have been used most. A high frequency related variables with parentification were the affectiveness-related variables, in particularly, the shame proneness is the highest correlation variables. Conclusions: Based on the findings in this study, it is suggested that the research objects should be more varied and the Korean parentification measurements need to be developed in the near future.
Objective: The objective of present study was to estimate heritability of non-return rate (NRR) and success of first insemination (SFI) by using the Bayesian approach with Gibbs sampling. Methods: Heifer Traits were denoted as NRR-h and SFI-h, and cow traits as NRR-c and SFI-c. The variance covariance components were estimated using threshold model under Bayesian procedures THRGIBBS1F90. Results: The SFI was more relevant to evaluating success of insemination because a high percentage of animals that demonstrated no return did not successfully conceive in NRR. Estimated heritability of NRR and SFI in heifers were 0.032 and 0.039 and the corresponding estimates for cows were 0.020 and 0.027. The model showed low values of Geweke (p-value ranging between 0.012 and 0.018) and a low Monte Carlo chain error, indicating that the amount of a posteriori for the heritability estimate was valid for binary traits. Genetic correlation between the same traits among heifers and cows by using the two-trait threshold model were low, 0.485 and 0.591 for NRR and SFI, respectively. High genetic correlations were observed between NRR-h and SFI-h (0.922) and between NRR-c and SFI-c (0.954). Conclusion: SFI showed slightly higher heritability than NRR but the two traits are genetically correlated. Based on this result, both two could be used for early indicator for evaluate the capacity of cows to conceive.
