Implementation of a walking-aid light with machine vision-based pedestrian signal detection (머신비전 기반 보행신호등 검출 기능을 갖는 보행등 구현)

  • In this study, we propose a machine vision-based pedestrian signal detection algorithm that operates efficiently even in computing resource-constrained environments. This algorithm demonstrates high efficiency within limited resources and is designed to minimize the impact of ambient lighting by sequentially applying HSV color space-based image processing, binarization, morphological operations, labeling, and other steps to address issues such as light glare. Particularly, this algorithm is structured in a relatively simple form to ensure smooth operation within embedded system environments, considering the limitations of computing resources. Consequently, it possesses a structure that operates reliably even in environments with low computing resources. Moreover, the proposed pedestrian signal system not only includes pedestrian signal detection capabilities but also incorporates IoT functionality, allowing wireless integration with a web server. This integration enables users to conveniently monitor and control the status of the signal system through the web server. Additionally, successful implementation has been achieved for effectively controlling 50W LED pedestrian signals. This proposed system aims to provide a rapid and efficient pedestrian signal detection and control system within resource-constrained environments, contemplating its potential applicability in real-world road scenarios. Anticipated contributions include fostering the establishment of safer and more intelligent traffic systems.

  • This is a research of an adaptive longitudinal control system for situated cognition in wide range, traffic accidents reduction and safety driving environment by integrated system which graft a road infrastructure's information based on IT onto the intelligent vehicle combined automobile and IT technology. The road infrastructure installed by laser scanner in intersection, speed limited area and sharp curve area where is many risk of traffic accident. The road infra conducts objects recognition, segmentation, and tracking for determining dangerous situation and communicates real-time information by Ethernet with vehicle. Also, the data which transmitted from infrastructure supports safety driving by integrated with laser scanner's data on vehicle bumper.

Road Image Enhancement Method for Vision-based Intelligent Vehicle (비전기반 지능형 자동차를 위한 도로 주행 영상 개선 방법)

  • This paper presents an image enhancement method in real road traffic scenes. The images captured by the camera on the car cannot keep the color constancy as illumination or weather changes. In the real environment, these problems are more worse at back light conditions and at night that make more difficult to the applications of the vision-based intelligent vehicles. Using the existing image enhancement methods without considering the position and intensity of the light source and their geometric relations the image quality can even be deteriorated. Thus, this paper presents a fast and effective method for image enhancement resembling human cognitive system which consists of 1) image preprocessing, 2) color-contrast evaluation, 3) alpha blending of over/under estimated image and preprocessed image. An input image is first preprocessed by gamma correction, and then enhanced by an Automatic Color Enhancement(ACE) method. Finally, the preprocessed image and the ACE image are blended to improve image visibility. The proposed method shows drastically enhanced results visually, and improves the performance in traffic sign detection of the vision based intelligent vehicle applications.

Road Sign Detection with Weather/Illumination Classifications and Adaptive Color Models in Various Road Images (날씨·조명 판단 및 적응적 색상모델을 이용한 도로주행 영상에서의 이정표 검출)

  • Road-view object classification methods are mostly influenced by weather and illumination conditions, thus the most of the research activities are based on dataset in clean weathers. In this paper, we present a road-view object classification method based on color segmentation that works for all kinds of weathers. The proposed method first classifies the weather and illumination conditions and then applies the weather-specified color models to find the road traffic signs. Using 5 different features of the road-view images, we classify the weather and light conditions as sunny, cloudy, rainy, night, and backlight. Based on the classified weather and illuminations, our model selects the weather-specific color ranges to generate Gaussian Mixture Model for each colors, Green, Yellow, and Blue. The proposed method successfully detects the traffic signs regardless of the weather and illumination conditions.

  • Red traffic light indicates a different meaning, the green one. Motorists and pedestrians in the crosswalk must stop or move in accordance with a signal light. However, the probability of an accident is high if you do not see or ignore these signals. In addition to the curved pedestrian crossing installed the announcement system using an infrared sensor is difficult. In this paper, we design and implement methods of detecting pedestrians using the camera. A camera installed on the pontoon walking up the pedestrian and the pedestrian detection range is set through the image. With the proposed system it is effective in detecting pedestrians in the crosswalk curved.

  • 교통 신호등은 운전자 혹은 보행자들의 뚜렷한 시인성 확보를 위해 가능한 주위 배경과 구분되는 색상, 모양, 질감 등으로 구성하여 설치되어 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 결국 기존 교통 신호등 검출 연구들에서는 대부분 교통 신호등의 색상과 모양을 기반으로 한 검출 연구가 주류를 이루고 있는 것이 사실이다. 하지만, 외부 날씨, 복잡한 시내, 다른 물체와의 겹침 등의 문제로 인해 색상 및 모양 기반의 교통 신호등, motion blur, 검출 오류가 증가 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 입력 영상에서 색상정보를 배제하고 motion blur나 밝기 변화에 덜 민감하고 먼 거리에서도 뛰어난 시인성을 가진 spot light 검출을 통해 입력 영상에서 가장 밝은 교통표지판 후보 영역들을 검출한다. 그리고 교통 신호등의 특징인 가능한 원형을 유지하고 있으며 원형 외부 색상과 내부 색상이 현저하게 두드러지는 영역을 maximally stable extremal regions (MSER) 알고리즘을 사용하여 입력 영상에서 후보 영역을 선택한다. 마지막으로, 검출된 영역들에서 교통 신호등 영역을 검출하기 위해 템플릿 매칭 방법을 적용한다. 제안한 방법을 도로 상에서 실험한 결과, 평균 94% 이상의 검출율을 제시하였고, 특히 야간 시간대에 검출율이 비교적 높게 제시되었다.

  • 지능형 차량 시스템에 있어서 교통 표지판 검출/인식은 매우 중요한 요소들 중의 하나이다. 따라서 주행 중인 차량에서 카메라로부터 취득한 영상을 이용하여 교통 표지판을 인식하는 여러 가지 영상인식 알고리즘들이 개발되고 있다. 하지만 이러한 알고리즘은 표지판의 색상 값이 날씨와 시간에 따른 조도와 컬러의 변화에 따라 성능이 크게 변한다는 점에서 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 환경 변화에 강인한 교통 표지판 검출 및 인식 알고리즘을 제안한다. 구체적으로, 표지판 검출을 위하여 제안하는 알고리즘에서는 색상과 형태 정보를 이용하여 교통 표지판 후보군을 찾는다. 여러 색상 임계값에 대하여 영상 피라미드 형태를 만들고, 모든 피라미드 영상들에 대해서 인식 알고리즘을 수행함으로써 실외 빛에 변화에 강인하게 한다. 교통 표지판 후보군을 찾은 후, 후보군들을 Linear SVM을 통해 학습함으로써 교통 표지판인지 아닌지 분류해낸다. 실험 결과는 제안하는 알고리즘이 정확하게 교통 표지판을 인식하고, 동시에 실외 빛의 변화에 상관없이 강인하게 표지판을 인식함을 보여준다.

  • 신호등 검출은 지능형 교통 시스템에서 매우 중요하며 최근 신호등 검출 관련한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 하지만 기존의 신호등검출 알고리듬의 문제점은 조명의 변화에 민감하다는 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 신호등 검출 알고리듬을 제안한다. 먼저 제안하는 색상지도와 HSV(Hue-Saturation-Value)를 이용하여 신호등의 후보를 검출한다. 검출한 신호등의 후보로부터 HOG(Histogram of Oriented Gradient) 서술자를 이용하여 특징을 추출한 다음 최종적으로 선형 SVM(Support Vector Machine)을 이용하여 신호등을 검출하는 알고리듬을 제안한다.

  • A lights-out detector, which helps the person in charge of maintenance make a quick judgment in the event of a failure of LED-type traffic lights, was explored/developed and installed/ tested, at Seoul Metro, after they developed a patented pilot product in 2005; and, a product improvement test was conducted to ensure reasonable maintenance of signaling facilities. Having better compatibility with existing circuit in use and displaying stable load current, the device makes the maintenance of lights-out detection and alert easier.

  • The Maglev travels at levitated status from the rail in some gab (about $8\sim10mm$). it make difference with the existing subway or the another LRV. The detection method of the train speed and the train position to be used at Maglev's signaling system differ with the existing subway or the another LRV's. so, the signal system construction of the new method is necessary. This paper describes the configuration and characteristic of the total signaling system (TTC/Wayside/Cab/Guide way system etc.) developed for Maglev, and the design concept of the signaling system based on the latest wireless LAN communication for driverless operation.
