In this study the quantitative outlier-filtering algorithm has been developed using the smoothing method based on the day-of-the-week traffic volume variation pattern and then, in order to test the effectiveness of the algorithm, it has been used to identify outliers from the traffic volume data collected at 14 continuous traffic counts sites on the national highways in the year 2010. The test results are satisfactory since the filtering rate is 98.2% for normal days and the mis-filtering rate is 8.0% for abnormal days. Therefore, the algorithm will be able to be used for roughly-but-quickly filtering outliers from the collected traffic volume data.
For the smooth flow of traffic vehicles and its effective management, it is necessary to have an exact information on traffic condition, i.e., the volume of traffic, velocity, occupancy and classification of vehicles. In particular, for classification of vehicles, there has been only image processing method using camera, where the method can obtain much information but rather expensive. In this paper, an algorithm for the measurement of velocity and total length of vehicles has been proposed to develop a general traffic management system, which is necessary to discriminate the class of vehicles. In order to realize the proposed algorithm, we have developed an ultrasonic spatial filtering method, which has better performance than that of using the traditional vehicle detector. To have this system to be constructed, we have introduced three sets of ultrasonic devices where each has one transmitter and two receivers which are arranged to obtain the spatial difference of objects. The velocity of vehicles can be measured by analyzing the occurrence time of pulses and their time differences. The total length of vehicles can be given by multiplying velocity with time interval of pulses sequence. To confirm the effectiveness of this measuring system, the experiment by the spatial filtering method using the ultrasonic sensors has been carried out. As the results, it is found that the proposed method can be used as one of measurement tools in the general traffic management system.

For obtaining telematics traffic information(travel time or speed in an individual link), there are many kinds of devices to collect traffic data. Since the GPS satellite signals have been released to civil society, thank to the development of GPS technology, the GPS has become a very useful instrument for collecting traffic data. GPS can reduce the cost of installation and maintenance in contrast with existing traffic detectors which must be stationed on the ground. But. there are Problems when GPS data is applied to the existing filtering techniques used for analyzing the data collected by other detectors. This paper proposes a method to provide users with correct traffic information through filtering abnormal data caused by the unusual driving in collected data based on GPS. We have developed an algorithm that can be applied to real-time GPS data and create more reliable traffic information, by building patterns of past data and filtering abnormal data through selection of filtering areas using Quartile values. in order to verify the proposed algorithm, we experimented with actual traffic data that include probe cars equipped with a built-in GPS receiver which ran through Gangnam Street in Seoul. As a result of these experiments, it is shown that link travel speed data obtained from this algorithm is more accurate than those obtained by existing systems.
This paper proposes an extended service filtering technique to prevent overload in service control point (SCP) due to televoting (VOT) or mass calling (MAS) services with the heavy traffic characteristics. Also, this paper compares this extended technique with the existing overload control techniques, and calculates steady state call blocking probabilities in intelligent network (IN) under overload conditions. The proposed technique considers SCP overload and IN Capability Set (CS)-1 services (such as VOT or MAS service) that have to use the specialized resources of intelligent peripheral (IP). This technique uses first an activating step in which SCP requests service filtering to service switching point (SSP). Then, in the filtering step, SSP sends filtering results to SCP periodically or each N-calls. Also, when filtering time-out expires, SSP stops service filtering, and sends service filtering response to SCP in the deactivating step. This paper applies this technique to VOT/MAS service, and calculates SCP and SSP-IP (circuit) call blocking probabilities by using an analytical VOT/MAS service model. With the modeling and analyzing of this new technique, it shows that this technique reduces the traffic flow into SCP from SSP and IP prominently.
This paper proposes a new method of traffic signal detection and recognition in an RGB color model. The proposed method firstly processes RGB-filtering in order to detect traffic signal candidates. Secondly, it performs adaptive threshold processing and then analyzes connected components of the binary image. The connected component of a traffic signal has to be satisfied with both a bounding box rate and an area rate that are defined in this paper. The traffic signal recognition system is implemented using C language in an embedded Linux system for a high-speed real-time image processing. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithms are quite successful.
Generally, sensor nodes can be easily compromised and seized by an adversary because sensor nodes are hostile environments after dissemination. An adversary may be various security attacks into the networks using compromised node. False data injection attack using compromised node, it may not only cause false alarms, but also the depletion of the severe amount of energy waste. Dynamic en-route scheme for Filtering False Data Injection (DEF) can detect and drop such forged report during the forwarding process. In this scheme, each forwarding nodes verify reports using a regular probability. In this paper, we propose verification probability adjustment scheme of forwarding nodes though a fuzzy rule-base system for the Dynamic en-route filtering scheme for Filtering False Data Injection in sensor networks. Verification probability determination of forwarding nodes use false traffic rate and distance form source to base station.

Incidents, which is unexpected unusual events such as traffic accidents, have increased on the most roads in Korea. The obstruction of a fluent traffic flow occurred by incidents causes the traffic congestion and decreases the capacity. The Wavelet technique was applied to detect the road section and the happening time of incidents on urban freeways in this study, and this technique has been widely used in many engineering fields such as an electrical engineering, etc. The availability and validity of the Wavelet technique to the detection of incidents was examined by the occupancy rate, the important element of traffic flows, which is extracted from the data of detectors installed on Seoul Urban freeways. Then, this result is compared to the California Algorithm and the Low-Pass Filtering Algorithm among basic present detection algorithms, which are based on the occupancy rate. As a result, the false alarm rate of this method was similar as that of the California algorithm and the Low-Pass Filtering algorithm, but the detection rate is higher.

This paper reviews existing message-filtering schemes and presents a quantization-based message-filtering approach which reduces state update transmission and message traffic requirement. For a realization of the approach we develop a DEVS-based integrator which provides behavior and characteristic of the quantization-based approach. We take a spaceship and space traveling system as a case study to evaluate performance of the quantization-based approach. The approach is validated by DEVSJAVA simulations of the case study. The comparison of message traffic requirement between DTSS (Discrete Time System Specification)-based and DEVS-based systems apparently shows system performance improvement through the quantization-based approach.

Travel speed is an important parameter in measurement of road traffic. UTIS(Urban Traffic Information System) was developed as a type of section detector. However, UTIS incur errors caused by irregular vehicle trajectories, wireless communication range and so on. This paper suggests a new model that use an error-filtering algorithm to improve the accuracy of travel speed measurements. In the field test, the variance of the percent errors measured by the new model was reduced. Therefore, it can be concluded that the proposed model significantly improves travel speed measuring accuracy.
Effective detection and correction of outliers of raw traffic data collected from the field is of keen interest because reliable traffic information is highly dependent on the quality of raw data. Global positioning system (GPS) based traffic surveillance systems are capable of producing individual vehicle speeds that are invaluable for various traffic management and information strategies. This study proposed a locally weighted regression (LWR) based filtering method for individual vehicle speed data. An important feature of this study was to propose a technique to generate synthetic outliers for more systematic evaluation of the proposed method. It was identified by performance evaluations that the proposed LWR-based method outperformed an exponential smoothing. The proposed method is expected to be effectively utilized for filtering out raw individual vehicle speed data.
