  • The traffic operating speed is one of important information to measure a road capacity. When we supply the information of the road of high traffic by using navigation, offering the present traffic information and the forecasted future information are the outstanding functions to serve the more accurate expected times and intervals. In this study, we proposed the traffic speed forecasting model using the accumulated traffic speed data of the road and highway and forecasted the average speed for each the road and high interval and each time interval using Fourier transformation and time series regression model with trigonometrical function. We also propose the proper method of missing data imputation and treatment for the outliers to raise an accuracy of the traffic speed forecasting and the speed grouping method for which data have similar traffic speed pattern to increase an efficiency of analysis.

  • The current road traffic signal controller developed in the 1990s has limitations in flexibility and scalability due to power supply problems, various communication methods, and hierarchical black box structures for various equipment and devices installed to improve traffic safety for road users and autonomous cooperative driving. In this paper, we designed a road traffic safety facilities equipment and devices integrated management system that can cope with the rapidly changing future traffic environment by solving the using direct current(DC) and power supply problem through the power over ethernet(PoE) technology and centralized data-driven control through message broker technology. In addition, a data-driven real-time control method for road traffic safety facilities equipment and devices operating based on time series data was implemented and verified.

  • Traffic offloading is a promising solution to solve the explosive growth of mobile traffic. One of offloading schemes, in LIPA/SIPTO(Local IP Access and Selected IP Traffic Offload) offloading, we can offload mobile traffic that can satisfy QoS requirement for application. In addition, it is necessary for traffic offloading using social context due to large traffic from SNS. Thus, we propose the LIPA/SIPTO offloading algorithm using social context. We define the application selection probability using social context, the application popularity. Then, we find the optimal offloading weighting factor to maximize the QoS(Quality of Service) of small cell users in term of effective data rate. Finally, we determine the offloading ratio by this application selection probability and optimal offloading weighting factor. By performance analysis, the effective data rate achievement ratio of the proposed algorithm is similar with the conventional one although the total offloading ratio of the proposed algorithm is about 46 percent of the conventional one.

  • A trajectory-based scheduling system is proposed for air traffic management using next generation aviation data communication link. Based on the service concept of 4-dimensional trajectory data link (4DTRAD) using air traffic serveices (ATS) datalink Baseline 2, a procedure for trajectory-based operation of an en-route flight is established and described in detail. To mitigate air traffic controllers' workload which might be caused by various and complicated data utilization, a prototype of the scheduling system, which predicts the aircraft trajectory based on the flight intents received by air traffic service system and provides advisory information for air traffic control, was developed. The simulation environment for trajectory based operation was built to validate the scheduling functionality of the prototype.

  • We suggest a new spatial linear interpolation method to substitute linear interpolation method which widely used in transportation engineering to impute the missing daily traffic volume. We layout daily traffic volume which is time series data over the virtual lattice space to consider the spatial correlation. We used Moran Index to evaluate the spatial correlations among daily traffic volume in same week and same date traffic volume by week considering the circularity of daily traffic volume. For real application, we used daily traffic volume on November, 2004 provided by Korea Institute of Construction Technology(KICT) and transformed daily traffic volume to 4 times 7 virtual lattice space to reflect the spatial correlation. Finally we showed that the spatial linear interpolation method has good performance for missing data imputation based on MAPE, RMSE, and Theil's U criteria.

  • Recently, there have been many studies on object recognition around the vehicle and recognition of traffic signs and traffic lights in autonomous driving. In particular, such the recognition of traffic lights is one of the core technologies in autonomous driving. Therefore, many studies for such the recognition of traffic lights have been performed, the studies based on various deep learning models have increased significantly in recent. In addition, as a high-quality AI training data set for voice, vision, and autonomous driving is released on AIHub, it makes it possible to develop a recognition model for traffic lights suitable for the domestic environment using the data set. In this study, we developed a recognition model for traffic lights that can be used in Korea using the AIHub's training data set. In particular, in order to improve the recognition performance, we used various models of YOLOv4 and YOLOv5, and performed our recognition experiments by defining various classes for the training data. In conclusion, we could see that YOLOv5 shows better performance in the recognition than YOLOv4 and could confirm the reason from the architecture comparison of the two models.

  • The national highway traffic counts system consists of short duration counts and continuous counts. Unlike continuous counts, short duration counts are performed by collection of a few days period and thus, the magnitude of deviation of collected data from AADT varies depending upon when data collection takes place. Therefore, this study was done to find out the best months and days of data collection of each highway classification in order to enhance the accuracy of AADT estimation. Continuous counts, another type of the national traffic counts system, are performed by collection of 365-day period using a permanent traffic counter. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the number of days for which the counter malfunctions to a minimum in order to enhance the accuracy of data. However, from time to time the permanent traffic counter malfunctions due to various causes and thus, cannot collect data. Therefore, this study was done to find out whether the age of counter, the ratio of heavy vehicle volume to total traffic volume, etc. could be the direct causes of counter's malfunction based on the number of maintenance for a certain time period.

  • Amongst various analytic methods of internal structure of city, the factor analysis method which uses O-D matrix data has some merits and characteristics compared to other methods. 1) It is possible to find one certain interaction and flow pattern between traffic zones with in a city through reanalyzing O-D data which is too complex to grasp specific meaning or pattern of flow systems. 2) It can be easily visualized the traffic flow pattern by using adequate graphic techniques, and also can clarify the functional areas whose interaction linkages are significantly strong enough between each other. In this study, the taxi traffic O-D data between 42 traffic zones in Kwang-ju city was reanalyzied by varimax rotated factor analysis methods. As a result, four factors that have significant level factor loading (over 0.5 ) and factor score (over 1.0) were sorted out. so to speak four different functional areas were clarified in Kwang-ju city, of the West, the East, the south, and the North functional areas whose interaction linkages are significantly strong enough between each other. In the study, the taxi traffic O-D data between 42 traffic zones in Kwang-ju city was reanalyzied by varimax rotated factor analysis methods. As a result, four factors that have significant level factor loading (over 0.5) and factor score 9over 1.0) were sorted out. so to speak four different functional areas were clarified in Kwang-ju city, of the West, the East, the South, and the North functional area, then these four functional areas are almost coincided with citizen's general conception of community division and administrative district. Accordingly the factor analysis methods using traffic data seems to proved to be very accurate and useful analytic instruments for analyzing flow pattern and clarifying functional areas of city, and believed to provide basic informations and criteria for practical urban land use planning and transportation planning.
